Well, it's been since the middle of November now, and nobody has said anything further about taking Sassy and Simon away, so I took them on February 2, 2007 to the Meow Mobile (what a wonderful program) to get their shots and to have them fixed. Gizmo and Zena came along too, so everybody's had their shots as well their potential removed. (Perfect timing, as Zena went into heat the week before and Simon had some well-defined boy parts showing.)
I would have a hard time parting with the babies now. They fit right into the family, as you can see by the Naptime and Catpile pictures. Zena's a bit of a loner still. But the babies like nothing better than to snuggle up with a Big Boy, either Big Boy, any Big Boy, and take a nap. Sassy does prefer Smokey (looks like he's turned into the ladies' man, certainly not what I would have expected), and Simon does look for Socks first, but either one is better than sleeping alone. The more the merrier, and warmer too, I suppose.
DD has said that she wants to take over helping Sassy write her diary, so I will be making only occasional updates on Sassy, and DD will be doing most of the work for awhile. Of course, that may mean more frequent entries. We'll see...

The beginning

We had had Smokey and Socks for 2-1/2 years when my daughter CJ said a friend of hers had 3 feral kittens that she needed to find homes for. Her friend had seen these kittens in her yard with the momcat and so she had left some food out for the family. About a week later she found that the momcat had been hit by a car. She and her family went out to find the babies and were fortunate to find them. They took the babies in and took care of them with the whole bottle thing and weaned them and looked for homes for them. We were the first to get one.
We took Sami (we named him that because he was a messed up Siamese - he's in a picture with Smokey) in late October 2006, as the friend said he was the most tame of the 3 kittens. I took him to the vet and got shots and an A-OK from the vet, thinking he would be the only addition to the household.
On a Sunday in the middle of November we had an early Thanksgiving dinner since CJ and DD were going to be with their dad on the real Thanksgiving day. We had the neighbors and some of their friends over too. Well, one of the neighbors' friends, Ben, told us how he had always had cats and was looking to get one. We showed him Sami and he just fell in love, so we agreed to let Sami go with Ben. Ben renamed him Gizmo and they seem to be very happy together.
The day after Sami left us, Zena came to live with us (you can see Zena's story on her page). The next day, CJ's friend said she needed to find homes for the other 2 kittens, Sami's (Gizmo) brother and sister. Ben had mentioned that he might be interested in a playmate for Gizmo, and who would be better than one of his very own littermates. Another friend of CJ's said she might be interested in one of the kittens. Two days later, the kittens came to us, so they could be out of her friend's house and in anticipation of being given away to Ben and Natalie. We named them Sassy and Simon, in keeping with the s-theme (Smokey, Socks, Sassy, Simon. Zena was named before we got her).
And that's the beginning.
