There has been a "truce" in our house. Cats and dog are now equal :) (Well, we'll continue to let Ruby think that, but it is obvious WE CATS are the superior "breed"!)
At first we fought like, well, cats and dogs.
Now we get along quite well. Although I'm not ready to say we are "friends," we tolerate each other. Since I was the oldest and smartest, I was the one who made friends first! I would sneak upstairs at night when Ruby and humans were sleeping. I was able to enjoy my favorite perches, sniff in the dog's bowl, etc. Then when Ruby went for her surgery, I really took the upstairs back as my own. Saffi was not as brave as me. I would stare Ruby right in the eye without fear. We'd stare and stare and stare, then I'd hiss and Ruby would bark and I'd run off. This was repeated a few times until I was able to stand my ground. Ruby sniffed my nose and my hind end and then she pretty much left me alone! Now we ignore each other.
Mom hopes that someday we can actually play and be friends. But for now, not chasing each other will suffice!
Dad loves dogs and he had been asking mom for one. Finally mom decided to get one as long as human brother can help care for it. (They aren't self-cleaning like us smart cats are!) Well, this new dog is named Ruby and I don't like her one bit. She sits there and barks at me and I HISSSSSSSSSSSSSS to let her know this is MY house!!!
Yeah that's pretty much what we do. We have daily barking/hissing sessions until dad takes Ruby back upstairs. Us cats are staying in the lower level of the house (family room, office and storage area) until we get along better. Mom bought us a "window shelf" to sit on but we are still too scared to be that close to the evil doggie! Mom says we will be friends soon, but I am not so sure.
A lot has happened since I last wrote in my diary! My little bro. Stipey passed on to Rainbow Bridge. The first night they took him to the vet, I was ecstatic to have the house to myself! Then the next day he came back home but he just kind of layed around and slept most of the time. Even though we were sort of enemies, I did feel sorry for the little guy. I licked his ear a few times to tell him it would be OK.
The humans were really sad and stressed out about it but I knew Rainbow Bridge is actually a very nice place to go to! With lots of birds to chase, pools of fish to pounce at, and lots of warm sunbeams. When Stipey passed over to the Bridge it was a bit of a relief for all of us.
Then, I was QUEEN OF THE HOUSE! Mama was depressed so she paid a lot of attention to me! No more Stipey to chase me off my comfortable perches. It was heavenly until. . . .
IN CAME SAPPHIRE! A little fluffball to capture all of the humans' attention! :( I was angry for awhile but then I realized that Sapphire seemed to be a very sweet and harmless thing. Not vicious at all like Stipey had been! Sure, she chases my tail and annoys me sometimes but she is pretty harmless. I miss being the center of attention but mom is sure to brush me and pay me some attention of my own quite often. I know pretty soon Saffi will be old and boring to the humans and then maybe I WILL RULE AGAIN! Muahahaha!
