Yes, you read right. I am cured. I am normal.

My blood work says:

-thyroid cured after TWO radioactive iodine treatments and years of suffering
-no anemia anymore
-no infections
-kidney values normal
-liver values normal

I have a teensey bit of renal insufficiency showing up in my urine only, but that is being treated with Calcitriol. Arthur Itis is still around but I heard when you are almost 16 there is really no getting rid of him. I have to keep taking drops for my ears and Mommy is going to poke me with B12 injections twice a month to give me an added boost.

I am running over to tell Hazel Lucy she can take me off the purr list...FINALLY!!!

Winter Games!

My dear Catsters, our whole family missed Valentine's Day this year on Catster, but it was not our fault! Our Mommy and Daddy went away all the way to Canada to ski at Mont Tremblant (downhill and cross-country) and go to the Winter Carnival in Quebec City. There they toured the city, raced their friends down an ice slide like children and stood outside freezing for the special winter carnival parade! Oh, they also toured a castle made completely of ice.

As for us, we were left at home with our heated beds and blankets and our catsitter. I asked her to let us use the computer to send our friends Valentines, but she said no.

Meanwhile, up in Quebec City, Mommy and Daddy were eating in a fancy restaurant where they bring your food and flames to cook it right to your table and they probably said a bunch of mushy stuff. Yuck!

We got back online just in time to find out that Gilmore has been named a Dreamboat in Training by the furtabulous Samoa. You should see him strutting all over the house! Now he wants to use the computer to update his resume right away. You can't say he lacks ambition!

Mommy says it was fun to watch the Olympics in Canada on the tee-vee. We are big winter sports fans and love to see the athletes compete.

Happy belated Valentine's Day to all!

I might as well just retire!

Sometimes I think I might as well just retire as HOH. The other cats are taking over! When I get my very special Fancy Feast Appetizer time, they all come running to get some too. Even Hazel! Some of the bolder ones wait until I go to get a sip of water from the fountain and then scarf down my nummies while I am one step away drinking. Older folks have to eat slower! So then I cry until Mommy gives me more.

Last night, those little devils had a huge CATNIP PAWTY. Even Kiki was in on it. I have lost all respect for her now. Those fresh little kitten cats broke into the basket with the catnip and tore open the whole bag. There was catnip everywhere this morning.

I am going to have to either retire or reassert my position as HOH right now with a big ol' smackdown. I vote for smackdown.

I am losing weight :-(

I had to go to the vet today for my B12 shot and to have my weight and ears rechecked. I did really well, but I lost almost a pound since last time, and it has not been that long. They put me on some medicine to settle my tummy in case an upset tummy is why I am losing weight, and Mommy will have to take some of my poops to the vet to rule out a parasite.

I don't know why Mommy is so worried about my weight loss. I thought losing weight was good. Mommy tries (unsuccessfully) to lose weight all the time! Can I help it if it comes naturally to me?

Mommy is also going to poke me with a needle once a week with B12 at home.

I think that since Mommy has been away for two of the weeks since my last weigh-in that maybe I lost weight because she is the one who gives me yummy-yummy Fancy Feast. Without that, my calorie intake was surely less than normal, but we'll see if I can pack that weight back on now that she is home.

Good-bye, Spud

Tonight my Mommy and Daddy went to visit Auntie Janet. Janet lives in the house next to our old house where we lived when I adopted Mommy and Daddy. Janet is a big fan of mine, and I used to let her pet me and give me treats.

Janet had a cat too, but he stayed inside only. His name was Spud. Back then, I was allowed outside to rule my territory that I had established over many years of being an indoor/outdoor kitty. (I have since retired and stay indoors only.)

Spud liked to lounge in his kitchen window, and I would go over there and sit under the window and tease him mercilessly about being an indoor kitty. He wanted to come outside and play! He was a good sport about my teasing. Occasionally he would sneak outside, and Mommy would help Janet look for me, and Janet would help Mommy when I went missing for too long.

I found out that Janet had to send poor Spud to the Bridge last month. He was an old man cat, but still it's hard to say goodbye. Janet came to visit me last Christmas Eve and see me in my fancy Christmas collar, and she told me Spud seemed unwell, but I was purring he would be ok.

Good-bye for now, my friend Spud! I will see you on the other side.

Today I got up and went over to where my Mommy was sitting at her desk. I wanted some noms, but she said it's not time yet. Then I threw my rearend on to the ground and started scooting myself all over the floor. I was so uncomfortable! Mommy saw me do it again and then I got scooped up and taken to see Daddy. Mommy hoisted up my tail to reveal the culprit...a hitchhiking piece of dried poop stuck to my furs.

The three of us went to the other room to rid me of the unwanted guest. I am sure glad it's gone now. I feel a lot better without that thing clinging to me and tugging my furs in all the wrong places.

Stair surfing on a box of socks

Today I stood up and was about to get off the big bed when Mommy saw me and pushed the bed stairs closer to me to help me down. I said "Thank you , Mommy" and then started off for the dining room for some noms.

I got about halfway down the big stairs to the first floor when I got stuck. I needed a help. I had accidentally stepped into a box of socks that was sitting on a step. About half the box was hanging over the stair. If I took a wrong step and shifted my weight too much, the box and I would go flying.

Mommy heard me fussing and came right away. She gasped when she saw me and tried to think of a way to get me out of the box without tipping it over. Normally any cat would know to just jump right out of that silly box of socks, but I am almost 16. My jumping moves are not what they used to be.

I took that dreaded step to the edge and Mommy yelped "no!" and her panic scared me so I took another step and then wheeeeeeee! I was surfing! I bailed near the end though by jumping, but thankfully I landed the jump.

Me, Mommy, the box and all of the socks landed at the bottom of the staircase at about the same time. (Mommy did not fall but came running very fast.) Mommy held me close and muttered something about how certain people should know better than to leave their box of socks on the stairs for people and cats to have accidents.

Well, I would not be in any hurry to do that again, but it was kind of fun! I showed everyone that I can still jump when I need to!

More tests

Hello Every Cat-

By now you all know about our house guest. He seems to get along ok with every cat. Every cat except for me, that is! I finally just got those other four cats that moved in trained and put into their places. I hope this new guy is not staying. He mostly just ignores other cats.

Luckily, he seems to get the message that I am in charge. He is allowed in the house for very short visits, but only when I am not able to get at him. Mommy does not want us fighting in case he bites me, which he would only do if I attacked him and he was desperate. He's a lover, not a fighter!

I went to the doctor on Friday. I lost another quarter pound. My urine looks ok (not great, but not getting worse) so my kidneys are holding their own. I feel a little bit bonier too. The doctor wants me tested for pancreatitis. So the vampires got extra blood from me and will test me. The normal blood work will be back today. The pancreas enzymes will take longer.

If the tests are negative and I continue to lose weight, I will get x-rays and whatever else they need to see inside me.

I was extra good at the vet. It only took three people to get the blood. The doctor and her tech made a big fuss over me. I hope this problem is nothing too serious. My family is not ready to lose me and I am not ready to go!

If you have any purrs to spare for me, I could use a few so that my blood will say what is wrong with me and it will be something easy to treat.

Blood results

Meowlo, friends! My blood work came back with some weird results, but nothing catastrophic. My liver values were a little elevated, but I do not have pancreatitis. I have a folic acid deficiency that is probably causing me not to absorb enough nutrients, which could explain my weight loss. I have to take a supplement for six weeks and get retested. The doctors say this sometimes happens in kitties like me that have had a severe and ongoing thyroid issue. Hopefully this will be the answer and I can go back to being cured!

Thanks for all your purrs. They are helping.

Sweet 16! Almost!

I just was looking at the calendar and realized that my Sweet 16th birthday is in two months. We know the year I was born from questioning my old vet from my old family, and we celebrate my birthday on the anniversary of when I showed up to adopt my new and much improved family.

I am doing ok with my health for now. I am less active and generally turning into an old man cat, but overall I can't complain. I can't wait to turn 16 and all I want for my birthday is to get more years with my family!

I am going my first vacation in late June when Mommy and Daddy leave town. They think I am too special to be left alone with only a catsitter, so I am headed to the Catskill Lodge for some alone time. Every mancat should have his own lodge!
