Arrival Story:
We recieved Socks from our neighbors. Somebody abandoned him near their house, but they had too many outside cats and didn't need anymore. They knew we had a farm, so they brought Socks (at that time they just called him Boots) to our barn and he lived there for a little while. The vet was doing herd checks and saw the cat and said "that's a house cat." So my dad told my sister to bring him home with her and make him a house cat. That was on New Year's Eve in 2000. When I came home from babysitting that night, only the cat was home and he was watching Dick Clark's Rockin New Year's Eve on television. He and I have been close ever since. The reason his name is Socks II, is that we used to have a grey and white cat like him named Socks, so the vet calls our current cat Socks II to avoid confusion.

Bio:
Sadly, Socks was diagnosed with Feline Leukemia this spring. I am away at school and don't get to spend nearly as much time with him, so it's been hard. He had a really bad time with this disease in March, but now he is doing great! He acts like a kitten again, and loves his second chance at life. He could relapse again, but for now, we're just enjoying the time we all have together!

The Life of Socks

A Sad day

My cat Socks passed away on January 1, 2007 from feline leukemia. He lived a good 9 months with the disease. We were very fortunate to have him for exactly 7 years. He came to live with us on January 1, 2007 and we were happy to have been able to have this wonderful cat live with us. He will be greatly missed by his family.

Last week I went to the vet for my shots and checkup and the vet was very surprised to see me. She was the same one who treated me when I was diagnosed with feline leukemia in the spring. Apparently I don't have the disease, just the virus is in my blood, so I should be fine for a long time now. I am sad at the moment because my owner went back to her school again, but I still have some people around to bond with.

Hello everyone. I am glad to be a part of catster and I look forward to meeting all of you. Here's a little bit more about myself. My owners like to call me a "tuxedo cat" and I have a black collar that looks like a bowtie. They say I look quite handsome in it, even though I hate wearing it! My one owner used to show me in 4-H. I was almost the top cat of the show my first year, but a girl cat who looked just like me won instead! I'm not really much of a show cat anyway. I prefer to stay at home with my owners and take naps on their laps. Right now my health is doing good and I can't wait to see my favorite owner come home from college for the summer so she can spend all of her time with me!
