After trying to change Gucci's diet with no success for bladder/kidney stones, he became blocked and was unable to urinate and began going down hill very quickly. After undergoing emergency surgery to unblock his urethra and clean his bladder of stones, Gucci appeared to be recovering just fine after about a week. He was able to escape his isolation to the kitchen, remove the cone the vet had placed on his head and remove all stitches in his belly!! He seemed to be back to our normal Gucci....
that week, we took Gucci to have his incision looked at and his bladder checked for urine to make sure he was recovering as well as we had hoped. That evening once home, Gucci seemed not himself and very sluggish...we just thought he was tired.....
We awoke to Gucci incontinent and seizuring the next morning and rushed him to the emergency after hours clinic. Gucci had suffered a stroke due to a blot clot from his bladder traveling to his brain after having his bladder squeezed the day before at the vet's office. Gucci had suffered from seizures previous to this day, but this stroke combined with his weak body, was just too much for him. The swelling on his brain was irreversible and even if something could have been done, he had no reflexes present in his eyes or limbs.
Our family was forced to make the decision that no family wants to ever make in their lifetime....but we knew that Gucci would never have the life he wanted or enjoyed ever again.
He travelled over the rainbow to kitty heaven after 40 minutes in our arms.....and left his family only in body, but never in spirit.
Gucci, now one month passed, sits watching over the rest of his kitty and human family from our mantel and lives on everyday in our hearts.
Gucci was a cat so special, unique and wonderful that no other could be compared....he will never be replaced, forgotten or lost. He is with us every day.
