Arrival Story:
It was finally time--we were ready to adopt a cat. We went to the Philly SPCA and looked around. The kittens were all so cute...but all had tags noting that someone was already in line to adopt them. But when the female human paused by a bottom-rung cage with an adult tabby in it, the cat started meowing and Meowing and MEOWING! She hooked us right then and there. Her info read that she had been a stray and had been taken in several days ago, so who knows--maybe we got there in the nick of time! It was meant to be. We took several hours to figure out a name for her--finally, since we learned she had been declawed, we ended up calling her "Pobble" after the Edward Lear poem "The Pobble Who Had No Toes."

Bio:
Pobble was the perfect cat for a first cat. She is much missed. She turned out to have been declawed by a former owner, then became a stray. We think her lack of front claws made her paranoid about the presence of other cats. We adopted Mymble not long afterward, but had to keep them separated for years. Finally when the baby human arrived, we had to stop fussing around with keeping them separated, and they eventually grew to something approaching tolerance, but never were fond of each other.
