outdoors Arrival Story: This is Maurice. He lived outside but was not feral. I brought him to the vet for feline leukemia, aids, and bartonella tests and for possible neutering and repairing of broken teeth.
Unfortunately, he was aids positive. I had tried to find him a home for quite awhile. Because he was an older cat it was very difficult. Now that we knew he was aids positive it would be next to impossible. I would have nowhere to keep him inside where I could separate him from my 6 cats while I searched for a saint who would be willing to adopt and care for him properly. If I left him outside he might infect other (feral) cats and he'd be miserable (he kept trying to come into the house). It broke my heart but we had to euthanize him. We comforted and pet him throughout the procedure. He was purring until the end.
He was the sweetest mush I've ever met. My only comfort is that we gave him a lot of love and a happy few final months since he first appeared on our porch. I've Been On Catster Since:
