Arrival Story: It was winter and snowing, February or March of 2004. My son saw a kitty outside in the front yard and we went out to see her. She ran away but not too far, watching us. We had some cat food in the house for the possum so we put some food on a paper plate and walked away. We watched her gobble the food down then walked into the woods. After that, every morning she was outside the kitchen door for her food. My husband make a bed out of a box, old pillows and a small blanket and put it outside. Months passed and it became warmer out. Callie still wouldn't let us touch her but she was hanging around more often. She would sit outside on the deck with us, just lounging around. It wasn't too long after that when she let me touch her for the first time! I was finally gaining trust from her. I was able to get a collar around her neck with my name and phone number in hopes if she had an owner, they would call me . Nobody ever called so my plan was to get her to a vet, make sure she was healthy and keep her indoors. During this time, we acquired Candy, found underneath a dumpster at 3 1/2 weeks old. We continued to feed Callie but knew she had to go to the vet before we could bring her in the house now for sure. Smart as a whip, would NOT allow herself to go into the Have-a-Heart trap we set up. I had spoken to a local rescue group and they generously offered to help me, once I trapped her, they would bring her to the vet and for a small donation, get her tested, spayed and the vaccines she needed. On September 9, 2004, Callie was outside as usual waiting for her breakfast. I decided enough game playing, picked her up swaddled in a towel and put her right into a cat carrier. Rescue group came to pick her up and off to the vet she went. I was so anxious to get her in so her and Candy could play together. Unbelievably, my poor baby had advanced feline leukemia and had to be euthanized. She never would've made it through the cold winter outside, it had already spread to her brain. Words cannot describe how devastated I was, I couldn't even go to work the next day. 2 days later, we got Daphne from Humane Solutions, Inc.

Bio: I miss Callie every day and my eyes tear up everytime I think of her. Candy and Callie used to talk to each other through the window screen and I thank God that I never let them come into contact with each other.
I just realized that I could scan a picture of her and put her on catster with the rest of my cherished babies.
