Arrival Story:
I had gone out with a friend one day to get a snack, and we passed our local crackhouse on the walk there. Stray cats were all over, and of course as a vet student I had to stop and check them out. As we were trying to lure one over, a neighbor came by and mentioned that one of the kittens from the house had been in her backyard lately. We went over and there was the tiniest little filthy grey kitten skulking around, obviously ill. We just looked at each other and said "We can't get a cat....okay, I guess we're getting a cat." Two hours, a few nasty bites and a big gash on my hand later, Phoenix was starting her recuperation in our apartment.

Bio:
Because of her severe malnutrition and illness when she was a kitten (we're talking viral infections, bacterial infections, lacerations in her mouth so severe she couldn't eat, nonexistent bowel control that left poopy streaks all over our floors for a month- it was BAD) Phoenix was left with several physical and mental handicaps. She has a very difficult time meowing, and really just squeaks. Her metabolism is messed up because she lived so long on the brink of starvation, and she gets easily confused and will occasionally still walk into walls, get lost in cupboards and spontaneously fall over. Thankfully as she's gotten older she's gotten better, and Phoenix has grown into an incredibly loving and beautiful cat.
