Arrival Story: On a visit to the local PetCo store, I found that they had 3 adult kitties from a nearby shelter up for adoption. It wasn't a typical adoption, however, as the fee for all adult cats had been reduced to $10. I had not previously considered adopting, largely because I didn't have the money for the fees, but I did have $10 . . . and Lexa (the shelter's name for her) had just the prettiest face! I couldn't resist. I talked it over with my husband, and we returned to PetCo to get her, but it wasn't quite that simple. We had to go to the shelter and file the paperwork & pay the $10 FIRST. It wasn't that big a deal, just unexpected. Afterwards, we took the papers showing that we had claimed her, and took her home.
Neither of us liked the name "Lexa". It didn't take us long to come up with the name "Sophie" which fits her far better! Even Sophie seems pleased with it :-)
The shelter didn't know much about Sophie's history, like how she such a beautiful, well-mannered, healthy cat ended up there. They claim she's a Maine Coon, but we had a Maine Coon once before, and Sophie's physical characteristics are different. Profile, head shape, coat texture & length, leg & tail length -- all point to either Norwegian Forest or Siberian. In reality, she's probably a mix like most cats, but I like to think of her as a Weegie since she looks so much like one.
She is purportedly 4 years old, but we're unsure of that, too. She plays like a younger cat. She's social and seems to be very well-adjusted. She's also sedate and proper, but ready to play-wrestle with her adopted baby sister, Minnie, any time!
