I's sad. We gots 3 ou'side kitties--Moosh, Crissy Grey & Knee sox. Mama feed 'em efurday, jus' like me & Ingen & lil Bear. I knows when they's waitin' ou'side fur their foods, efun tho I can' sees 'em. Today I's reashin' fur the door knob & meowin' to mama "there's a kitty ou'side mama. He wan'sa eat." So mama open a door an' seed I's right. Crissy was sittin' & waitin' fur mama to feed him. Mama let me go out & say HI to Crissy but he jus' hiss & back 'way from me. I try 'gain but he jus' keep goin' 'way from me. I sitted down & look at mama. Mama putted me back ina 'pawtment. The same thing happen b'fore with Mooshie. He don' wanna be my furriend either.

I don' unnerstand why the ou'side kitties don' wanna be furriends with me. I'sa good boy. I's furriendly. I don' hiss er nussin'. It make me sad 'at we can' be furriends.

When I live with daddy, alla kitties liked me. They's alla my fur-sibs (Snow, Spot, Forrest G., Sweetie) an' Aunt Gypsy, Unkle Kringle, Unkle Squeeker, Unkle Tigger, Unkle Blizzard & a course mama Panda. Well, 'cept fur Unkle Blizzard but he dinnit like any of us kittens. He's kinda o'd & cranky but we luff him anyways. MOL So, why the ou'side kitties don' like me?

**from mama**

It really is kind of sad. Novi seems so excited to meet other kitties and then he's so confused when they don't want to be his furriends. I tell him he just has to settle for his odd "clowder", which includes my roommate, me, lil Bear & Ingen.

Poor Novi!!!

don't worry, you'll make furriends with different kitties.

If those kitties don't want to be furriends, then they are missing out

Count your blessings, I say. Seems like every tom, Ricki and Marble wants in our door! That Sirius seems to think he lives in here, that is, until the Papa says "Hi Sirius!" and he zooms right back out the door! Hehehe...

I used to be an outside kitty and it are a hard life. Other kitties usually aren't friends, at least they weren't to me since dey stealeded my food. So don't take it pawsonally, just realize da outside kitties are living a different life.

Novi I'm sort of the official greeter, mentor, and first cat to befriend other cats who come to our household. I've had a lot of experience making friends with other cats.

Since the three outdoor kitties are used to each other, you can tell they are able to make friends with other cats. However almost everything is a possible threat to an outdoor kitty. Once these kitties feel safe and secure, they will calm down and make friends with you.

Tell your mama to bring those kitties in and put them in a big plastic dog crate with their food, water, litter, and bed. Put their bed in the back of the crate so they can hide back there in the dark and feel safe. Put a blanket or towels over the grates on the back half of the crate so the back half is totally dark. Put their litter pan in the front of the crate and their food and water at the side or between their bed and litter. Your mom may have to mix potting soil with the litter at first (some outdoor cats have never used litter and have to be started with a potting soil/litter mixture and converted gradually over to litter alone. In the crate those kitties can see, smell, and hear you and feel safe at the same time.

Once those kitties are spayed or neutered, dewormed, treated for any fleas or ear mites, and allowed to enjoy the experience of being safe and well fed and comfortable for once, they will calm down.

Tell your mom be patient. Depending on the age of the kitties and whatever traumatic experiences they've had, it might take anywhere from a couple of weeks to several months to adjust.

Once those kitties feel safe, they will start coming to the front of the crate more and more to interact with you and your mom. Your mom can sometimes let them out in a room where she can easily catch them again to put them back in the crate, and let them exercise. They will smell where you've been in that room. Then after your mom puts them back in their crate, you can smell where they've been in the room. This will further help teach them that you're safe and friendly, and it will also reassure you.

My mom has even socialized ferals using the crate method although it took a year for one cat who had been badly traumatized before my mom got her.

Remember though, that even the very best of kitty friends can get into quarrels just as people do, and the occasional quarrel is to be expected. Quarrels between kitties who are friends usually are mostly noise and don't last long. Even if fur flies, nobody usually gets hurt and if they do, its usually a small scratch on the muzzle just above the nose.

Hope this helps & BTW my family & my human mom & I will be your friend if you want us to.

Hang in there! & Congrats on your DDP from all of us!

Hope this helps.

Yep! Thanks for asking him to be your friend, BTW. He's a little awed at the moment with all the attention. :)
