If you get a chance please check out Alley's diary and then tell us your experience if you have any or what you think of the article. I know (mom) I am reading all this stuff and some of it is nonsense and like Alex mom said to me today the doctors just kinda "dump" stuff they cannot figure out into this FIP area, but if anyone has experience with FIP we want to know. IT just is making me wonder sense we might have experienced this "rare disease" twice in less than two years, if there is some way we can lessen the chances of it visiting us again.
It is a rare disease. I have been doing a lot of reading because of the increase that I have seen on this website. You are not sure that Booboo had this or cancer. I know that you didn't want to test Booboo but you can found out afterwards. Some places suggest that no other cat should be added until six months goes by. Clean litter boxes helps but again, they haven't determined what causes it. Don't beat yourself up. This can happen very easily. Stress and health affects the cat too. Cats hide their health so well. I would join their support group and get all of the information that you can. This would help you to recover. See what Lacey and Finney's mom has done for IBD. It is amazing. Hopefully, we will see a cure for FIP in the future. Meanwhile, go to the support group. As I am looking for a kitten, I know that FIP is somewhere. You can't live your life in dread. Booboo brought you love and you need to remember that. It is a rare disease. I have been reading and reading about this ever since little Alfie contracted it and died. I was devastated and had never heard of it before. I don't know of any other cases near where I live. I think we come across it on Catster because people post articles from all over the place and we become more aware of it. Before I gave my two new kittens a home I read a lot about FIP because I didn't want to bring them into a dangerous place. Dr Addie recommends a couple of months. http://www.dr-addie.com/ I scrubbed and disinfected everywhere that Alfie had been shortly after he died. It is spread by faeces from a shedding cat who is carrying the virus, but just because a cat is carrying coronavirus it doesn't mean that it will mutate into FIP. My older two cats Ollie & Dave are perfectly healthy and were tested negative for the virus. After much agonising over the decision I decided to give two new kittens a kind and loving home. I love them but the fear is always at the back of my mind. They are two little bundles of joy who are going to have a charmed life and I hope a very long one. It is a wicked disease that devastates everybody that comes into contact with it. I really hope they find a cure and vaccine for very soon. All our hugs and purrs are with you. It is a rare disease. Ruffy's mom here, When my Brina, so many years ago had FIP, I contacted Cornell-they were the only ones on the East Coast at that time doing FIP research. They told me that FIP was caused by a 'Corona' but there were many of them that mimicked FIP, which was what made the virus so elusive and difficult to diagnose. Also, that many vets diagnosed as FIP when they weren't sure, because it's difficult to diagnose, and sadly, sometimes not knowing what something is, call it FIP, when it might/might not be. It's one of those 'scary' things because it might/might not be. At the time, they told me they were researching how it got passed. We've had no experience with anything but FeLV, and that is not as contagous as they say. 5 kits grew up with a FeLV cat, none got it. Maybe FIP is not as rare as they claim. Have seen way too many here with it. :(. I h8 those diseases So many threats to our fur-babies. We agree with Blizzard...we hate them! We left some thoughts over on Alley's page. HI BLizz and Webees, we sure do hate it too. We do all we can to keep our kitties safe from harm and then something like this happens and there is nothing we can do to help them. Booboo kept exposing her tummy to daddy like she wanted him to know something was wrong and we did know but there was nothing we could do. IT was just so sad it was like she wanted us to help her feel better. Thanks every one for your thoughts and for listening while moma heals we know this too shall pass but we sure do miss booboo kitty |
