Arrival Story:
It's pretty simple we wanted another cat so Missy could have a playmate so I called our local shelter and they just happened to have a kitty that had just arrived (brought in by a man who was going to keep Pumpkin but he didn't get along with the two dogs they already had) she said that he would be perfect for us (I was wanting another female but I thought why not.) We went and got him an hour or so later and couldn't resist him he was so cute so we paid our adoption fee and took him home. He's a bit wild like Missy but I'm sure he'll be ok once he gets used to us. We named him Pumpkin because when my fiancee' was younger he had a cat named Pumpkin that looked almost just like our new Pumpkin so it was only right to honor the long deceased loved pet of my fiancee'.

Bio:
The vet told us that Pumpkin is about 4 months old making him born in September. The vet said he is going to be a very big kitty when he is full grown.

Well since things have changed so much arounds our house we's not going to be able to start a raw foodies diet for awhile but we's have stopped eating kibble & are now eating Grain Free wet foodies 3 times a day!! Meowmy says our poopie is much betters not as stinky & less of it, YAY!! Meowmy's also been spliting a 1 can of salt free packed in spring water sardines once a week between the four of us & we's luvs it, YUMMIES!! I's wasn't to sure abouts giving up my kibble at first but I's used to not having it now!! We's doing alrights arounds here it's been hard but we's surviving. Sorry we's haven't been arounds much Meowmy's always busy trying to find ways to make moolah. Also my sisfur Willow isn't walking any betters after taking her antibiotics for a week so Meowmy thinks shes pulled a muscle but can't get her to the V-E-T cuz she's outta monies & feels so bad but Willow doesn't act likes she's in pain but it still hurts Meowmy's heart. She's been trying to massage Willow's back, legs, & tail to see if that will help. It hasn't gotten any worse but not any betters either. As for the rest of us our health is doing furrry good Oreo's ringwormie is just abouts gone. Well gotta go talk to all yous kitties laters!!

R.I.P. Bear 2002-2011

We's just found out my Grandmeowmy's (Pawpas Mom) doggie Bear passed away yesterday. Bear was a girl doggie just to let ya know her name kinda make yous think shes was a boy.

R.I.P. Bear 2002-2011

Here's the Blog Grandmeowmy wrote for today:
Last night we lost our Dog, Bear. It was an unexpected loss, and as such there was no time to prepare for the eventuality that another beloved pet would be gone.

Bear came to live with me first. Back in 2002, The Man of the Place and I were next-door neighbors. I had been at his house watching movies until late well after dark. I see relatively well in the dark...well enough to walk across his yard, around The Big Tree, through the fence, through my side hard, and up on my deck to get in the family room. This night however when I stepped on my deck, something began to growl and snarl at me.

Scared to death, I called back to The Man of the Place and said "There's a huge ferocious animal on my deck, it is growling and snarling, and it won't let me into my house! Come NOW! HELP!" He, being rather laid back in nature, meandered over with flashlight in hand to see and rescue me from the ferocious beast.

What he found were two puppies. One, a brindle pit bull pup, and another light blond puff-ball, half hidden behind the snarling, growling brother. He was protecting her, that's all, The Man of the Place explained. It's his nature. He sat down on the deck by my front door, and speaking in a soft, sweet voice, soon had two bouncing puppies on his lap.

To this day don't know where they came from, but we're guessing they were probably dumped. Out in the country, this is unfortunately quite common. Those of us who are animal geeks tend to accumulate them as we go through life (every one of my animals is a foundling or weird rescue story). I had my son's dog, Patches, at the time, and Patches was old and not in the best of health, so I wasn't keen on keeping two bouncy puppies. The Man of the Place said just to leave them alone, don't feed them, and if they had a home they would eventually go find it.

The pit pup did just that - the next day he was nowhere to be found. The puff ball stayed. After another day of the puff ball sitting patiently at my front door, I couldn't stand it any longer. I fed her. And she never left.

That week I took her to the vet for the prerequisite shots and medical care; soon thereafter when she became of age I had her spayed because we have enough puppies wandering up here every few years that adding to that population would be terribly irresponsible.

I brought her inside a few times. The first time, she was good - a bit skittish - a bit lost - but curious. After two times inside though, she began to freak out on me when she came indoors. She was great in the car though - that's the weirdest thing. She would sit on the floorboard with her head on my knee, just getting petted and loving the attention.

She was MY dog, and she would sometimes let my son pet her but that's about it. She was happy, well-mannered, and a fun dog. I spent many hours outside playing "bone" with her. She'd play until she was tired of me, then she'd hide the bone and lay down. Game over, Mom. Go away.

She LOVED the snow, and I was concerned about her laying out in the snow. If she slept outdoors (not in her house) overnight, and it snowed really hard, I'd come out and couldn't find my dog. She would be asleep, completely covered in a mound of snow...two black button eyeballs would pop open eventually and I'd say "There you are!". And she'd wiggle from stem to stern, covered in snow, as happy as could be.

We had a few adventures. She was good on a lead, but not as good as a city dog. She loved to escape and be off her chain, but she wouldn't go anywhere. She'd just play "Tag, you're it" with me until I gave up.

Then I had the accident. I was in the hospital for a while, and then homebound indoors in a wheelchair, only going out (with great problems) about 4 times in 3 months...and then after that only a little bit. I was not able to walk out to her or care for her for months. The Man of the Place and I had purchased a new house by then, so she was more familiar with him. He had to start taking care of her because I obviously couldn't move.

At first she was very tentative, and within a couple of months friendly. For the last two years of her life she was definitely "Daddy's Girl". I was ok, but she was all wiggles when he was around. I could live with that. I share and play well with others! Our normal routine became I would get her food and water ready, and when Daddy came home in the truck, he would take her food out to her and play with her a bit. Oh, she loved to sit on his feet and get her ears skitched. Nearly every day we did this...until yesterday.

The Man of the Place came home, got her water and headed out to see his girl. He was out quite some time, and then came in and laid the water on the carpet. I was puzzled...it's so hot I couldn't imagine she wouldn't need water. "Bear's gone, sweetie." he said softly.

"She take off again?" I asked, not at all understanding. "No, honey, she's gone. She's passed away." I can't tell you how shocked I was. She laid down out near her house like she always did, sort of curled around with her head flat in front of her. He said that's the way she was laying, eyes still open. It just KILLED me.

She had been fine earlier in the day. I went out to call the other critters to get food and water. You know how hog farmers can go out and yell "Soo-ey!" really loud and the hogs come? I started calling my cat-astrophe "Boogers" - which became over time a similar yell of "Booooo-Gaaaahhhh" - and here they come running, from every corner of the farm (and from the farm across the road too). I did that yell, and Bear knew that she usually gets a treat then too. I couldn't get up to her from where I was, but I could hear her running and bouncing and doing her normal "Yay!" routine. This was about 1:30 yesterday afternoon. He went to take her water about dusk. It had to happen sometime in between.

It was a terrible day, and I'm trying now to move forward, the way we always do. I cried a lot yesterday, and twice today, but I know from all the losses of special animal friends through the years this too shall pass, and though I swear I will NEVER have another dog, things may change later on. God brought Bear to me not long before Patches left...maybe there's another pup headed towards the farm any day now. He seems to make sure an animal shows up when it's needed most.

That said, I will miss my Bear. :(
