Arrival Story:
After we lost Marley we took a couple of weeks before we decided it was time to look and see if there were any kitties that we would want to bring into our home. We spent some time deciding what direction we wanted to go - male, female, one, two, age. We decided on one female to start with. We went to the Las Vegas Humane Society Adoption day at a local store. They had so many kitties. Some kittens, some grown-ups. There was Abigail and Roxie. Both possibilities - each not quite right. In both cases their foster families had noted that they would be best in only-kitty households. So I mentioned to the attendant that we were wanting to eventually have 2 - and she began telling us about Sugar and Spice. They had been adopted together as kittens by an elderly couple. The couple had passed away within days of each other and the families couldn't keep the cats - now 20 months. They were a close, intimate couple and couldn't be separated from each other so it was hard to find them a new home. They'd been in foster care for 6 months. Would we like to meet them? Mike said yes. I said yes. Sugar and Spice were brought to the adoption center. There were 2. And the female, Spice was a calico. I didn't think Mike would be able to do it - but he sat on the floor and Spice crawled all over him and I asked him if he wanted to bring them both home and he looked up at me - it was yes.

After watching the cats for a couple of days we realized they were really as close as we'd been told. They cuddle together to sleep. Play together. Eat together. He always knows where she is. She calls out to him and he comes racing. But the names Sugar and Spice just didn't sit well with us. It didn't say enough about their personalities. Sugar, the male, is cocky, likes to look at himself in any reflective surface and strutts with a confidence that only evaporates when Spice calls over to him. He loves ladies and obviously thinks he is the best thing in the room. We considered several names - keeping in mind their relationship - and settled on Mick (and for her Jerry). We started using the names - Mick came right away. It suits him.

My job is simple - get Them up in the morning and make sure They go to bed on time at night. That's what I do. But They don't always seem to listen to me and sometimes I have to use heavy meowing tactics.

Like last night....He went to bed on time and without fuss. But She was still out there writing stuff with my pen and watching TV. I sat right on the ottoman and said - Bed Now!! And finally She listened.

And so we all get into the bedroom and I'm nesting in on the white blanket and boom - I realize that Jerry isn't there!!!

I finally get Them to bed and Jerry is out there in the living room looking out the window!!! Well I told Her I was unhappy so She went to the living room and talked to Jerry and Jerry followed Her into the bedroom and up on the bed.

Now Jerry's been naughty - not coming to bed when she should - but She pets her and loves on her like Jerry's been the best girl in the world!!! How do you like that!! And I'm the one to get them all in here and all I got was a few dozen back rubs, some "pretty boy" and "good boy" and then some ear rubs and some belly rubs and a little brushing and.....well....okay.....maybe....if I think about it a little.... it's all good.

So.....we went to sleep all 4 of us on the big bed and then I had to get up this morning and wake Her up and then Him. It's a tough routine but I know my job and I will do it well!

To the top of the bookshelf.....goal accomplished

Now I don't mean to brag, but I am a bit of a jumper. I can pop high and land with stealth - the only challenge is figuring out when I can do it so that I get the most fun and They get the most angst.

Started small. Jumped on the bed. Praise for me.

Then, Jumped in the window and on the dresser - praise praise.

Next I jumped up a wall whilest chacing lights and shadows (and no I had not been on the nip!)

Jumped to the table top, the sofa top, jumped on the treatmill.

But one thing eluded me. The top of the bookshelves.

Not unreasonably out of reach but definitly not as easy as the ottoman.

And then - I figured it out. Jump to the table and then jump from the table to the top of the shelf. Easy peasey.

I did a couple of practice runs without anyone present but then yesterday just had to display my skills to Him. Afterall, we don't have a lot of testosterone floating around here so any time we can rachet it up a little - we do! So I showed Him and He was thrilled and praise followed.

Now that I've breached the apparently impossible shelves it's time for something new. On this I shall ponder.....

Barbara stopped by

Barbara is a friend who takes care of outdoor kitties at her house. In her neighborhood there were several kitties who lost their homes when their owners moved away. So Barbara adopted them and she cares for them at her house now.

Barbara came by our house on Sunday. She sat in the man-chair in the living room and let me woof her jeans. They smelled like Jessie cat and Walter cat and Fog cat and Whisper cat and Mr. Nose. (he's a cat too but he doesn't like to be called 'cat')

She even let me jump up on the ottoman and then petted me. She's nice.

I get a little scared of new people - I'm not always sure what they're going to do. They may pick us up and take us away. It's not always a good thing when new people come around. But I was okay with Barbara. And from what I hear, that's important because Barbara will kitty-sit for us when He and She are out of town.

It's good to meet new people - sometimes..........
