 Quick Bio:

 Coloration: White

Likes: He liked watching the birds, butterflies, squirrels in his backyard. I think he was sad when they went away when we adopted his sis, Toplock. He was a mellow fellow that loved hanging out with Sammy.

Pet-Peeves: He wasn't fond of being petted and if you tried to scratch his belly, you would be very sorry.

Favorite Toy: Oak loved anything laced with catnip.Truth be told he had a little problem with catnip but hey no ones perfect!

Favorite Nap Spot: When we first got him it was on the ironing board, later on the back deck in the sun.

Favorite Food: Anything canned was his fave.

Skills: Oakley was a houdini cat, he disappeared in our house the first six months we had him. Once he trusted us, he reappeared again!

Dwells:
indoors and outdoors

Arrival Story: I originally went to the shelter to get a dog because we had moved to a new town and I was lonely. I happened to walk by a pen and all I could see was an eye looking at me. He was literally hiding under the bed. I could see he was scared to death. Of course I picked him. It wasn't an easy road at first. I can honestly say he had been abused at one point and didn't trust people. The first six months in our house he got into the basement and disappeared into an opening in the wall. I put food and water out for him and it took a good six months for him to come out. It was at that time we got an inkling of what a quirky cat we had. We would leave the basement door open just in case he wanted to come visit. I went up north to see my parents and my husband stayed home to work. He called one night and said he had bad news. My son's hamster cage had been knocked off the stand and he was missing. He thought Oakley ate him. Upon further inspection my husband found the hamster in the basement, sitting in the food bowl. He was alive and too scared to move. That poor little hamster, being in the jaws of a big cat. He was just fine though. Knowing what I know now about Oak, I think he was just lonely. He loved watching the birds, butterflies, squirrels and never tried to kill anything. He did however once catch a bat that was in our kitchen. This was right after he decided to come out of the basement and join us. We heard a big ruckus and Oakley was making weird noises. We went out and he had the bat pinned but didn't seem to know what to do with it. He was relieved when Dad took the bat and released it outside. Mr. Kitty got a big treat that night! Oakley never behaved like a normal cat. He didn't meow, purred like a pigeon, and was a definitely a scaredy cat. He could have cared less to groom himself. He had such beautiful fur but usually looked pretty disheveled. He didn't like brushes, he considered them his enemy. I took many a bite when I brought out that brush. He only once ventured outside the fence. He somehow got out and we heard him under our front deck. He was SO scared. I often wonder if his cat sis Toplock led him out there on purpose. She was the POLAR opposite of him and they tolerated each other but that was about it. I think he always resented her for making the birds, and squirrels go away. I think she resented him for being a wuss. (She was a tough, street cat.) I always thought if Oaky had a song running through his head it would be a Karen Carpenter song or perhaps Louie Armstrong's song, "A Wonderful World." With Toplock I picture heavy metal, hard rock- AC/DC or Insane Clown Posse. Oakley was so low keyed, he didn't care to be petted at first but he liked to be in the room with you. He would quietly purr like a pigeon. It was quite soothing. He became much friendlier in later years. He would rub up against you and that was your signal you could pet him. Just don't make the mistake of touching the belly. NEVER touch the belly! Oak really liked it every year when we put up the Christmas tree. He would bat at the ornaments and lay under the tree with the presents. He also ate the tinsel and walked around with it coming out of his bum. We had to quit putting tinsel on the tree for many years because of that. He really seemed to enjoy eating it. I miss his big beautiful eyes, one blue, one green staring intently at you. We lost him March 20th, 2003. He was the first to be buried in our backyard and we put up a memory stone for him. How time flies. He now has Sam and Toplock next to him. I often feel guilty we didn't spend more time with him, we had our daughter Tater(nickname) and he got put on the back burner. He always got special treats and we loved him but with my youth I didn't understand just how precious that time is and how fast it goes. We love you Mr Kitty, you were one of a kind. With your sister Toplock's passing the yard is back to the way you liked it. The bird feeders are back, we have a squirrel feeder and we have butterflies! (Toplock did not even tolerate butterflies in her yard.) We miss you Oaky. Be nice to your sis in heaven.
