Ten days ago, Kitty News Network reported on a homeless cat whose resemblance to a movie villain had him struggling to find a home.
But on Saturday, this reporter learned that Charlie the cat has been adopted.
The 14-year-old white cat had had his ears and part of his nose removed because he was suffering from skin cancer. The surgery saved his life, but it left him with a creepy appearance. In fact, staff at the Blue Cross animal shelter in London had given him the nickname Voldemog because of his uncanny resemblance to the evil Lord Voldemort from the Harry Potter films.
After the story of Charlie’s unfortunate situation broke, he became a worldwide internet star.
Just hours after his story appeared in British papers including the Daily Mail and The Daily Echo, the Blue Cross Center was flooded with calls from people who wanted to help Charlie.
A lady in Worthing made the first reservation. On Friday she met Charlie, and the pair immediately bonded.
They got on really well and we are now making the preparations for him to go home with her at the weekend,” a spokesperson for the Blue Cross said.
Although workers at the charity thought a fan of the best-selling “Potter” books would be the most likely to give Charlie a home, the woman who adopted him “is not a Harry Potter fan; she just heard of his plight for a nice, quiet home and she could offer him that,” said Maria Loveridge, the center’s animal welfare assistant.
