What’s more festive or celebratory than a decadent cake? We can’t imagine a birthday or holiday without one, and sharing these moments with our cats shouldn’t be an exception! For dedicated cat owners, we figured it was time to whip one of these irresistible cat desserts fitting for any feline. These may not be your average cakes, as our cats don’t appreciate sweets quite as much as we do, but rest assured, each of these will be a hit with your cat at every holiday or birthday!

While these cakes are delicious, they are only meant to be offered on special occasions. Some cats are intolerant of wheat, so we recommend substituting rice flour to avoid this problem and help limit unnecessary carbohydrates. You can add egg white to the recipe to help the cake bind together, which will add to the protein content of the cake, making it even more appealing to your little carnivore!

Learn how to make high-value treats with these simple cat cake recipes!

Top 5 Homemade Cat Cake Recipes

Important information: All of the cat cakes in this article are prepared with ingredients that are safe for most cats; however, they are not complete and balanced recipes and should not replace your cat’s regular diet. Cats have very specific nutritional needs as obligate carnivores, and only commercial diets or properly formulated veterinary diets provide the full spectrum of nutrients they require.

Please serve these cakes only as special-occasion treats, and always in moderation.

  • 1/2 cup finely diced cooked chicken
  • 1/2 cup pure sweet potato puree
  • Rice flour, optional
  • Mashed potatoes for frosting, also optional (ensure plain, with no butter, salt, milk, or seasonings)
Steps
  • Line a small rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Open the tuna can and drain the tuna of any water, then scoop the tuna into a medium mixing bowl. Flake the tuna into small bits.
  • Add the diced chicken to the bowl, then stir in the sweet potato puree, adding just enough to keep the mixture together.
  • If your sweet potato is a little watery, add rice flour 1 teaspoon at a time to soak up the excess moisture.
  • Place a 1-inch round cookie cutter on a plate, then scoop the mix into the cutter, smoothing it to the edges.
  • Lift the cutter.
  • To frost the cake, pipe the mashed potatoes with a pastry bag fitted with a large piping tip, or you can just dollop a bit on top as long as the mashed potatoes contain no added salt, dairy, seasonings, or fats.

  1. Thanks so much for the information… Done with store bought cat food (not knocking cat food makers, but I think I need to know EXACTLY what is being put in my cat's dish). Going to the grocery store today to purchase fresh meats to fix. At least I will know exactly what my cat will be actually eating.

    1. Hi BjC, just please keep in mind these recipes are not intended for daily feeding as they are not a complete and balanced diet for a cat. The recipes are only Treats as the title says, they are meant to be given only for special occasions. Similar to how you cannot eat only cake 24/7.
