Earlier this year, I made some awesome upgrades to my dedicated cat room, including a motion sensor water fountain. My mornings have been much more pleasant since the cats started gathering around their automatic feeder at 5 am instead of jumping on my head, and there has been a lot less cat hair to contend with as the air purifier has been pitching in. But there was one thing that I’ve been longing for, one thing that could be an absolute game changer in my pursuit of effortless cat care: a self-cleaning litter box.
I’ve been keeping an eye out for a unit that would be up to the challenge of coping with five cats, but every automatic litter box I looked at seemed to be either incredibly bulky, far too flimsy, or insanely expensive. The reality is, a self-cleaning litter box has been a luxury item that most of us can’t even consider splurging on. However, things have changed over the past few years, and as I discovered, the ultimate in cat care convenience is no longer out of reach.

Why Do I Need A Self-Cleaning Litter Box?
Look, let’s be completely honest here. No one truly needs a self-cleaning litter box. Just as we don’t really need a microwave, or a dishwasher, or remote central locking for our car. But you’ve got to admit, life is a whole lot easier with them in our lives.
I’ve had cats my whole life, so I have coped without the benefit of an automatic litter box for many years (no, I’m not telling you exactly how many years!), but ever since I heard that such a thing existed, I knew I wanted one, even before I really knew what they did.
We know that litter box hygiene is one of the most important parts of providing for our cats, particularly those who live indoors and are completely reliant on us for their toileting needs. Although some cats aren’t overly phased by using a box that has been used by another cat, others won’t even use a ‘soiled’ box, even if they are an only cat, and having more litter boxes than cats has always been the best way to ensure everyone is happy, and no one gets poop in their shoe.
Litter box aversion is a common problem for cats, and it can be attributed to a number of factors, namely health issues such as cystitis, dislike of the litter box location or the type of litter used, or the presence of another cat’s pheromones. With toileting problems one of the most common reasons cats are euthanised or surrendered to animal shelters, getting this aspect of feline husbandry correct is absolutely pivotal to the health and happiness of your cat, as well as your relationship with them.
But if space is something of a limiting factor for you, there are only so many litter boxes you can have, and so many places you can hide them. Some people find themselves needing to perform litter box cleans 2-3 times a day, or more.
This is where a self-cleaning litter box becomes your new best friend.
After your cat does their business, it is rolled, rotated, and sifted away, leaving a ‘fresh bowl’ for the next feline in the queue.
If you’re worried about the noise a self-cleaning litter box makes or the amount of space it will need, allow me to introduce the Ease S1 Self-Cleaning Litter Box from Oneisall.
Oneisall Ease S1 Self-Cleaning Litter Box
Ever since the very first self-cleaning litter box revolutionized the cat world at the turn of the new millennium, companies have been racing to catch up to the technology and create their own version of this marvellous invention. Oneisall has taken a slightly different approach.
The company was founded in 2012 by pet lover and dog owner Terry, who was struggling to find a pet salon or dog groomer that didn’t terrify her rescue Border Collie, Niuniu, and home grooming tools were either ineffective, super noisy, or prohibitively expensive. So Terry decided to take matters into her own hands and established Oneisall, a company dedicated to using advanced technology to create affordable and efficient products for pets like Niuniu. Over the years, Oneisall has expanded their high quality range beyond grooming products, with a range of pet vacuums, water fountains, automatic feeders, and air purifiers. And now, they have applied their high standards to the development of their first self-cleaning litter box.
The multi-award-winning Ease S1 Self-Cleaning Litter Box from Oneisall is not just another cheap imitation. This unit combines the rotational concept used in many top automatic boxes with the open top style preferred by most cats.
What’s The Best Type of Litter Box?
The trouble with the question of which type of litter box is best is that there is no single right answer, but there are some definite rules that can be applied to every size, shape, or material out there. Cats are at their most vulnerable when they’re toileting, so location and visibility are often more important than the box or litter itself.
The perfect litter box:
- should be positioned in a quiet location, away from loud noises and foot traffic
- should be large enough to allow your cat to turn around, but not so large that they feel lost
- should be enclosed enough to keep everything in
- should be open enough to allow your cat to see out and have good ventilation
- should be easy to clean and sterilize
Many pet parents, myself included, opt for a covered style of litter box as it is effective at minimizing the amount of litter tracked around the home. However, the more enclosed a box is, the more vulnerable your cat may be to being ambushed as they leave. Additionally, boxes designed to minimize odor are really only designed to keep the odor inside, and the buildup of ammonia inside these litter boxes can get pretty overwhelming.
Most cats prefer their toilet to be in a quiet corner, away from their food and water, with good visibility, but many people don’t like an open litter box as it means the litter contents are on display at all times, and the odor is not contained. The Oneisall Self-Cleaning Litter Box takes care of both problems.

Unlike the spaceship appearance of many self-cleaning litter boxes, the Ease S1 from Oneisall is a sturdy open design, with a removable silicone liner in the base that makes cleaning a breeze.
After your cat finishes their business, the timer counts down five minutes to allow the litter to clump, and then the slow-motion magic begins. With multiple sensors to ensure there are no cats in close proximity, the unit tilts |the tray one way to separate the clean litter from the solid clumps, which drop into the waste tray below. The tray is then tilted back in the opposite direction and back into a level position. The whole process takes around two minutes.
On average, the under tray can hold up to 14 days of waste for one cat, containing much of the odor with it, but this will naturally depend on your cat’s size and diet, and will get shorter with each feline in the home. In order to accommodate the waste tray below, the unit needs to be quite high, with the entrance to the tray sitting at around 30cm (1 foot) tall. This is not going to be a problem for most cats, but elderly felines and small kittens may need a little step to make things easier. Fortunately, Oneisall has thought of this, and you can purchase a litter box with a matching step at a price only slightly higher than the original base unit.
The Ease S1 standard litter box is designed for cats 2.6–30 lbs, and comes with:
- Silicone Mat x1
- 5mm Litter Guard x1 (for Mineral & Bentonite Litter)
- Cat Litter Mat x1
- Waste Bag x 2 rolls (to line the waste tray)
- Power Adaptor × 1
- 24-month Warranty
In addition to the Easy Step-In option, Oneisall have several different bundles you can choose from to make sure you get the most out of your favorite new appliance, including the Multi-floor Pack with two units, a No-Wash Replacement Pack, with and extra silicone mat so you can swap straight to a clean one without having to wait, and the Ease S1 Pro with App which gives real-time alerts and allows you to control the unit with your phone from anywhere. You can also purchase a separate litter guard for larger litter types like tofu.
There are some amazing deals to be had if you want to really upgrade your cat care equipment, with the Cleaner Home Set with the Litter Box plus Pet Air Purifier, or the Oneisall All-in-One combo, which includes the automatic feeder and water fountain.
Key Features
There are quite a few features of the Oneisall Self-Cleaning Litter Box that make it really stand out from other units:

- Cleanliness: The removable silicone liner, detachable litter guard, and waste tray mean that you’ll never need to handle dirty cat litter again!
- Capacity: With up to 14 days storage*, you can take a much-needed break from litter box duty!

- Peace of mind: unlike most others that only give you one year, the Self-Cleaning Litter Box from Oneisall is covered by a 2-Year Warranty.

Our Experience With the Oneisall Self-Cleaning Litter Box
Firstly, I cannot overestate how excited I was to finally install one of these in my home. I love my cats, but caring for them (plus four dogs) takes a fair chunk out of my day, so I was really looking forward to setting up another automated feline device. When the package first arrived, I felt momentarily overwhelmed by the various bits and pieces staring back at me, but I remembered how straightforward all their other kit had been to set up, and as it turned out, this was no different. I had the litter box unit up and ready within ten minutes, and my cats were exploring before I’d even plugged it in.
The unit looks big, but it actually takes up less room than two of my old litter boxes, so I’m actually saving space. With a house full of cats all under the age of 12 years, I didn’t go for the Easy Step-in option, but I think some older cats with mobility issues could struggle with the height, so it’s a good option to keep in mind. The actual usable area of the litter box is smaller and shallower than what my cats are used to, as they’ve been using a top-opening box until now, but only one of my cats seemed to have difficulty with this, and only on his first visit. Poor Cyril, my large boy, overshot his first number 2! But this has not been repeated now he’s worked out the parameters!
I was interested to see how they would react once the box started ‘doing its thing’ and, far from being scared or worried, everyone seemed fascinated. So much so that the usual two-minute process took much longer as the cycle would pause every time a cat went near. This is a safety mechanism to ensure no cat is trapped in the unit as it rotates; though they would have to be very slow-moving to get caught up. It is like watching the slowest, most boring ride at Disneyland. Fortunately, the novelty wore off after the first couple of rotations, and the box has been rapidly accepted as part of the furniture. It’s really quiet too, and barely noticeable unless you’re in the same room.
Following the advice of the manufacturer, I left one of the old litter boxes out to allow a smooth transition, but the Oneisall unit seems to be the preferred box, which is a huge relief. Alex, my ginger cat who always prefers to use a pristine surface, is loving the fact that he is always met with a ‘fresh bowl,’ and I am loving the fact that I can go several days without dealing with cat litter!
Obviously, even a self-cleaning litter box needs to be cleaned, but it is much less labor-intensive now.
Based on the average 14 days between emptying for one cat, I’d estimated that I would need to replace the waste bag every 2-3 days, and this seems to be the case. The litter guard is easy to remove for cleaning, which I do around once per week – don’t forget to dry it before putting it back, unless you want your litter sticking to it!
Cleaning the silicone liner of the tray is so much easier than scrubbing cumbersome litter boxes, and the whole unit feels much cleaner with a lot less effort. For my clowder of five, a single unit is definitely up to the challenge, but ideally, a second unit would ensure that no cat has to wait in line for their turn, and would extend the emptying intervals to a week…which is why I decided to treat myself to a second Oneisall Self-Cleaning Litter Box.
At the time of writing, a single standard unit costs $229, but if you bundle up and buy two, it will only set you back $399 – this is less than the price of one of the leading competitor’s litter boxes! Obviously, this is significantly more than the average standard litter tray, but it is worth every penny.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: How does it know when to clean?
When you first fill up the litter box, and whenever you empty the waste tray and do a litter top-up, there is a button that levels the litter and takes a base weight. The weight and motion detectors sense when a cat has visited and left a deposit. It waits five minutes to allow the litter to clump, and if no further motion is detected, the cleaning process begins.
Q: Is it suitable for kittens?
In automatic mode, the Oneisall Self-Cleaning Litter Box is safe for cats and kittens over the age of 6 months. However, if you do have kittens younger than this, you can still use the litter box in manual mode, where it will only perform the self-clean at the push of a button. Although motion and weight sensors prevent the cleaning cycle from proceeding if there is any movement, this is an additional safety precaution.
Small kittens will likely struggle to get into the box anyway, unless you have the step-up installed.
Q: What if my cat gets in while it’s in operation?
If your cat just can’t wait and wants to get in after the cleaning cycle has started, motion sensors will pause the cycle until your cat has moved away.
Q: Is it suitable for more than one cat?
Absolutely. We tested it with a family of five cats, and it coped well. However, the optimal number would ideally be a maximum of 3-4 cats to ensure no one has to wait, and get the most out of the unit. If you’ve got a collection of cats, or if you prefer to keep litter boxes in different parts of the home (e.g., upstairs/downstairs), then it’s definitely worth taking advantage of the discounted price for buying two litter boxes together.
Q: How much does it cost?
At the time of writing, Oneisall have discounted the price of their Self-Cleaning Litter Box and bundles:
- Standard unit: $229.99 ($299.99)
- Easy Step-In pack: $249.99 ($349.99)
- Two standard units: $399.99 ($459.99)
- Cleaner Home Set (plus air purifier): $279.99 (409.99)
- All-in-One Combo (plus water fountain + auto feeder): $289.99 (389.99)
Q: Do I have to use Oneisall liner bags in the waste tray?
You could probably get away with using another type or brand of litter liner, but at less than $20 for 40 bags, I’d be choosing the ones designed specifically for this box.

Final Thoughts
Life always seems to be getting busier, and while there are always going to be gadgets and gimmicks designed to help make our lives easier, there are only a few that will stand the test of time and join the ranks of household staples. Of course, to be truly indispensable, such an item needs to be attainable, reliable, and practical, and for a long time, the self-cleaning litter box has been out of reach for most.
The Ease S1 Self-Cleaning Litter Box from Oneisall ticks every box. It’s cat-friendly, easy-clean, sturdy design more than measures up to its competitors, and at a price that is actually affordable, it won’t be long before it becomes as ubiquitous as the dishwasher or microwave.
If you have a super-sized cat, it might be worth holding out to see if a larger unit comes along, but for me, I am NEVER going back to old school litter boxes!
