Cat Cave Structure

Feltcave’s cat caves are made with 100% merino wool from New Zealand. This fabric is incredibly thick and well-made. The entire cave is one singular piece with no stitching except for the logo attached to the front.

The cat cave is firm but flexible with two functions. You can easily fold it out, and it will keep its shape. You can switch it up or leave it the way your cat prefers. It folds down nicely, creating a nice little donut-shaped bed for your kitty.

We think the dimensions would suit almost any house cat unless they are extra chunky. The Feltcave website recommends no cats over 15 pounds as a general rule. Our kitties comfortably fit in this cave. At one point, they were even sharing the space.

The Feltcave is attractive as well as functional. It can fit well into virtually any space with its incredibly lightweight design. When ordering, keep in mind that each cat cave is different. If you choose a particular color scheme, the tones might vary slightly from the depicted image on the website.

Feltcave Creation

When Feltcave touts that its cat caves are handmade, they aren’t joking. The beds are made one at a time by a single person. They use tufts of wool laid out color by color. The maker wets the wool after each layer until the structure is set.

Afterward, each cat cave is air-dried outside for a final finish. It’s fascinating to see how they make the cat caves, and it gives the bed a personalized edge to know another person crafted it just for your cat.

Feltcave Aim

As you might guess by the simplistic creation process, the company stands for environmentally friendly products. The process doesn’t require electricity, and all the dyes added for color are completely natural.

The company chose the merino wool due to its aesthetically pleasing looks, potential to employ locals, and appeal to felines. Feltcave wants to keep its products natural and organic. From our experience, the cat caves arrive in pristine condition, and you can enjoy them with a clean conscience, knowing you’re helping the planet.

Feltcave Cleaning

Wool is a fantastic material because it is odor, mold, and bacteria-resistant. They require minimal maintenance and last for several years with proper care. You don’t have to worry about complicated or frequent cleanings.

If you’re unfamiliar with cleaning wool, you might feel a little apprehensive about buying a Feltcave. It isn’t really difficult or time-consuming. Most of the time, you’ll vacuum the cave inside and out. You can vacuum daily to remove fur or debris.

You can add mild soap to a bucket of cold water for a deeper cleaning. First, you’ll submerge the cat cave and allow it to soak for at least 45 minutes to an hour. When you take it out of the water, remember that wool retains water like a sponge.

So, it can get messy if you aren’t in the right area. We recommend performing deep cleaning outdoors or in the bathtub. Once you remove the cat cave, it must drain and dry. Turn it inside out, but do not attempt to ring it out. Take a towel and press it down gently to transfer the water.

Once you remove the bulk of the moisture, you can hang it, lay it out to the sun, or air-dry it. After it dries, you might see that it’s lost its form. However, it’s very easy to reshape by hand.

Feltcave: Cat Approved

Personally, our cats loved the Feltcave cat cave. They were immediately curious, coming up for a brief inspection. Without a lot of hesitation, they were going in and out of the cave. Soon, they were snoozing together. We checked out what other customers said, and the consensus is pretty clear: it’s a great product.

Cat caves work well for cats who are social or want privacy since they can easily have both.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Are Feltcave Products Affordable?

The upfront cost of a Feltcave cat cave is slightly more expensive than the average cat bed on the market. However, the product’s outstanding quality and extensive lifespan soon pay for itself.

Are Feltcave’s Products Handmade?

100% of Feltcave’s cat caves are handmade in Nepal by a group of workers, making each product one-of-a-kind.

Will Feltcave Products Shrink After Washing?

You should not machine wash or dry this product. You can allow it to soak and air dry after. Never dry your cat cave in the dryer or expose it to high heat.

How Long Do Feltcave Products Last?

With proper care, cat caves can last several years. For optimal results, wash infrequently but keep up with light cleanings for sanitary purposes.

What The Users Say

The most honest way to determine if a product is good is to hear from real-life customers. That is why we searched the internet for what other people had to say about the Feltcave products they bought.

Most pet parents and their cats loved their Feltcave cat caves. Customers raved about the outstanding quality of material, beautiful aesthetic, and product versatility. Others were ecstatic about the way their cats took to the beds.

The only complaint was that sometimes the color does not quite match the display picture, which is normal and in no way the fault of the customer or company. Another downfall is that bigger cats, like Maine Coons, are too large to fit in Feltcaves.

If that is the entire list of downfalls, we think it’s pretty safe to say that the Feltcave is an excellent buy.

Conclusion

The Feltcave cat cave is a truly unique product with many perks. It’s manufactured by an environmentally conscious company that aims to employ locals and lessen its carbon footprint. The cat caves are original, beautifully made, and last for years.

The only issue that might make it impossible for your cat to enjoy this product is if you have a larger feline. The Felcave is suitable only for cats weighing 15 pounds or less. Hopefully, Feltcave will produce a larger cat cave size in the future.

  1. Is the Feltcave company still around? I've had one of these for years and wanted to get another since my first cat loved it so much, but I can't find the Feltcave brand beds anywhere anymore, and it looks like their website might be gone. There are other companies, of course, but I was hoping to get the same one my cat loved so much.

    1. Dear Sarah,

Sorry for a bit of a late answer. It seems that Feltcave products are sadly no longer available neither on Amazon or Chewy. But don't worry, there are many great alternatives available on the market. You can read our reviews on the best cave beds out there here:
