Beginning in the 1950s, the company started making specialty dog food entirely designed for puppies. This was a new and revolutionary idea at the time. The food was also appropriate for house cats. However, most cats didn’t like the taste of the puppy food and wouldn’t eat it.

It has chunky wet food, pate shredded wet food, pate and gravy wet foods, and tons of others. There is just about every kind of wet food imaginable in this company’s arsenal.
It also offers seven varieties of kibble, which are all quite similar. This company has come far since the 1950s and now provides just about every sort of food you may want to provide your feline.
Does Friskies Use Quality Ingredients?

Still, this is a 100% complete diet for adult cats. It contains antioxidants to support your cat’s immune system, omega fatty acids for an enhanced coat and plenty of vitamin A for vision health.

Those owners who left negative reviews were primarily concerned about the ingredients. As we’ve stated, they’re all pretty low quality. Most of this brand’s food contains artificial ingredients, low-quality filler, and poor meat choices. Many people were disappointed by the quality.
Some were also upset that the price fluctuated so much. It made it difficult for them to budget their cat food, as there was no telling what the price would end up being at any particular month. However, we cannot figure out if that is because of the recipe itself or because the owners incorrectly switched the cat over to the new diet. I have been getting my cats their pate for a few years without issue, and giving tuna some as well. Last month when I bought it, my kitten got severe diarrhea. I thought maybe it was from the food switch or an illness. Only one of my other cats would throw it up, but I had put down kibble too, which he usually won't eat because he throws it up. my other cats, than normally gobble the pate, ate the kibble instead. They still ate tuna as well. I gave them only tuna for about a week. They were all fine. I gave my kitten anti diarrhea meds. I just bought more pate. No kibble. They all ate a little, but left most of it, which is unheard of. The next morning, they ran to the plate, sniffed it and left it. One of my cats projectile vomited, the cat with a sensitive stomach (the reason I bought pate) started puking and got the runs. The kitten has them bad again and is throwing up, and my elderly cat has puked a few times. only one hasn't puked. They will not touch the food and they were hungry. Now none of them are even eating tuna or fresh cooked salmon. They have nibbled at it some, but I am certain something is wrong with the pate. I am reporting it to Friskies, but I want to put it out there in case other people have the same issue, because they won't even pay attention if it is one person complaining, and the diarrhea is Bad.

This is November 2025 and my cats are also seeming to have a problem with the pate…I always buy the same pate variety pack –it has savory salmon, mariners catch, Captain's choice, and tuna and cod -something like that.
Well, my two cats don't seem to eat very much of it. I noticed first off how Mercy is covering up the wet food by scraping the nearby dry food bowl contents on top of it. I see the food plates with a lot of food in it still, hours later.
I thought maybe it was the new-ish dry food that he didn't like, but also, then why did coincidentally both cats have issue with either the wet or dry food, as both usually eat all of it by the end of the day, and I thought maybe since the dry food 'ruined' the wet food, he didn't like it , but then I noticed the other bowl ( I divide a can between for them both, on two plates) was almost untouched as well, hours later, and that never happens.
I deduced it wasn't the dry food, it wasn't that he was suddenly tired of it, it wasn't even just one flavor that was the problem, it wasn't just Mercy, either, but Mimiz, who normally scarfs both bowls didn't seem to like it, either.
So I feared that something was Really wrong with the wet food, as in some contamination from the factory. I'm buying new food tomorrow… Mercy I also noted, seemed to act like he wasn't feeling very good over the last couple days. I thought maybe he had tummy troubles from the dry food and was taking it out of his bowl because of it, but seems definitely now, the problem is in fact, the pate.
I'm also calling the company to report this tomorrow!
