The start of our most recent post about Russell a year ago was pretty intense:
“Remember sweet little Russell? The cat who got trapped in a house fire after his owner, Leta Mae Strickland, desperately tried to find him and firefighters finally had to pull her from the flames consuming her house?”
The photos were difficult as well:
Russell not only survived, he thrived, but it was not without some work. He has spent his time at Animal Emergency Hospital and Urgent Care in Raleigh, N.C., and recently, the staff members have begun posting images of the kitty. This one really hits home, accompanied by the quote, “You’ve seen my descent, now watch my rising,” by the poet Rumi.
“He wants to be friends with every animal,” Megan Maus, a vet tech at Animal Emergency Hospital and Urgent Care, tells the Huffington Post. “He’s a very inquisitive cat. A very loving little cat.”
One of those animals is Darla, a baby deer. Look at Russell with this baby deer:
Animal Emergency Hospital’s Facebook page posted this message along with the photo:
And of course, Russell the man has been showing Darla the ropes and sharing his bed. (Russell has recently been thinking of chewing his still healing ankles, so he did have to get his e-collar put back on.)
He’s also spending time with a very happy dog, Saturn:
We’d like to introduce everyone to Russell’s newest friend, Saturn. Saturn is a sweet Labrador who was brought to our hospital by an animal control officer Sunday afternoon after being hit by a car.

It looks like Russell is in great hands, and we hope for a full recovery.
