A Story of Hope: Anakin, the Two-Legged Kitten

No back legs are no problem for this cute kitten -- just watch him attack his toy. (The toy doesn't stand a chance.)

If you're looking for something to help get you through the day, we'd like to introduce you to Anakin, a two-legged kitten who makes overcoming adversity look as easy as, well, playing with a kitten!

Born without a pelvis or hind legs, Anakin was rescued from a feral cat colony in an office parking lot when a caretaker's daughter noticed the unique kitten. Even though Anakin has only two legs, it took Carrie Hawks three days to finally catch him, a testament to the kitty's spunk and energy. Once she had him, Carrie knew that it was forever.

X-rays of Anakin's body reveal that he has no pelvis at all. Image via Anakin's Facebook page.

Setting Anakin up safely in a bathroom to give him time to become acquainted, Carrie then took him to his first veterinary appointment. Besides his lack of legs, Anakin checked out with a clean bill of health! Proving the incredible adaptability of animals, Anakin leaps, lunges, and lounges just like any other four-legged kitten, using his tail and raising his rear to help him balance on his front paws. Seeing him whiz by in a blur of fur, you might not even suspect that Anakin is missing limbs!

Anakin is definitely one lucky little kitten. The odds were stacked against him in the rough world of feral cats. Fortunately, Anakin and Carrie found each other to make this a very happy ending. You can follow Anakin's adventure at his Facebook page.
