I've been here for a week now and I'm out and about!
Mommy has been carefully integrating Garret and me. I've been in my own room until this morning. Garret and I have been allowed to peek at one another through the door. We also saw each other twice while being held by Mommy and Daddy.
Mommy's been splitting time between my room and the rest of the apartment with Garret. As the week went on, I came out and explored the master bedroom and the rest of the apartment. Mommy and I went into her room alone together so it was safe, then Daddy and Garret went in there so I could see everything else.
Mommy was brushing me earlier this week and she got the idea that maybe if she took my fur out of the brush and gave it to Garret, he'd get his hissing over with that. He did hiss but then he licked my fur and played with it. She took his fur off his window seat pillow and gave it to me. We did this for four days until this morning. Audrey at PAW said that was a brilliant idea.
When Mommy woke up today, she brought me out into the family room and petted me on the couch. Garret saw my door was open and he went in there to see what was up. Then he came out where I was. I hissed a little bit but then we were okay. Garret is a very active and excited cat, but I am shy so I wanted a little bit of space. He keeps coming right up to me and it makes me want to go back into my carrier in my room. I hiss at him when he comes there and he backs off. Mommy told me that he's just excited to meet me after all these days. I just need some time to come out more because I am more reserved and quiet. Garret sure isn't!
Mommy says we're doing great! There's been some minimal hissing, but nothing to worry about. She only expected to have a short face to face meeting today, but we've been out between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. and then again from 4:30 p.m. until now (8 p.m.). Mommy and Daddy took a nap so they closed my door again. They also wanted me to have a breather from Garret.
I'm getting braver about coming out. It will be slow but it's all going to work out fine. Mommy and Daddy are so happy! Daddy is very relieved. I know he was worrying about this. Both of us are sensitive cats and both of us are rescues with rough early lives.
Mommy used Reiki with us today as she has been all week. First she was using Reiki to bring our energies together while we were still in separate rooms. Today she brought some calm energy with us while we were close together. She says she's never seen anyone advertise Reiki for cat integrations, but it works!
I am very happy here. It's nice to have my door be opened so I can come out when I want to. Mommy is off from work on Monday and Tuesday so we have four days to spend extra time together. YAY! I am a purr monster around her.
I met my new Mommy in mid-February 2009. I had been returned to the PAW Society after being adopted with my brother. I got very stressed and had a urinary problem (no crystals though), so then I had to spend a week at the vet's office including an operation. Then to top it off, I sprained my paw!
Mommy regularly volunteers her Reiki services for PAW cats, and they asked her if she could please work on me. Our first session was a distance Reiki, and we connected so fast! I really needed a lot of Reiki because I was scared and upset and also hurting. She felt so nice and gentle and I wasn't scared of her. Mommy just became a Reiki Master within the past year but it was the deepest and most instant connection session she ever had giving or receiving Reiki. She told me so.
So then, Mommy came to the PAW room to treat me in person and meet me. She melted immediately. I recognized her from our Reiki session and so I let her touch me right away. We had a really loving Reiki session for almost two hours. Mommy told me later that after she left, she cried because she felt like she was leaving her child behind. She didn't want to adopt me yet though, because I was being presented as half of a bonded pair with my brother, Dusty.
Mommy and my new Daddy already have another PAW rescue cat, Garret (my Daddy posts for him under his own account, but you can see his badge on my page). They are only allowed two cats in their apartment. Mommy didn't want to break my heart to be apart from Dusty. Mommy said she'd rather have her own heart broken if I got to go with Dusty. I think that means she loves me for real. Mommy told me she loved me from the moment we connected in our distance Reiki session. The same thing happened to me too.
I'm a shy boy with most people, but Mommy came to visit me almost every Saturday. There were five kitties in the adoption room, but she always came for me most of all. That made me feel very good! She would come and then I liked to get in my cat bed and let her Reiki and pet me. I purr and purr when she's around. One time, she was playing with another kitty before coming over to my bed, so I got in there and sent her big telepathy so she would come. It worked!
Two visits ago, Mommy said she almost cried again when leaving me. Then on Mommy's last visit, Katrina in the adoption room told Audrey that after Mommy left, I got out of my bed, walked over to the door, and cried loudly. When Mommy heard this, she decided it was time to bring me to my forever home on May 16, so here I am! Mommy says that even though Dusty and I love each other, she thinks that she and I have also bonded deeply so she hopes that helps me get used to things.
She certainly has my new room decked out! I have toys, a special pillow and blanket, a perch to see out the window, a cat house that belonged to Mickey, and some nice bowls for my food and water. PAW even let me bring my favorite bed here!
I think I am going to be happy here, and I know I love my new Mommy. We are very connected. My Gamma says that I am meant to be Mommy's boy. When Mommy was looking for my angel sister, Mickey, she was originally wanting a long haired black boy cat. Well, that was Miss Mickey's turn, and I know they love each other forever and ever, but now she has her black boy too! I'm happy to be him forever and ever.
