Leave a treat for Newki (New Kitten)

Nicknames:
Bubba, Bubba Newks, Bubba Baby, Sir Newkman, Fuzzy, Bubby, Buddy, Fuzzin Z Newks

Quick Bio:
-mixed breed

Likes:
Food, Jumping on people's shoulders and then going to sleep up there, Playing with catnip toys, Going out in the back yard

Pet-Peeves:
Thunderstorms! (he is terrified of thunder, poor sweetie), getting clawed by Lucy, getting his butt sniffed by Dutch, being supervised when he gets to play in the back yard

Favorite Toy:
cat nip pillow, fingers in the couch, Dutch's tail! His own tail!

Favorite Nap Spot:
On a warm lap, it is SO sweet! He is not terribly affectionate (he is more of a playful cat) but he just adores curling up in your lap and taking a snooze!

Favorite Food:
Because of his eating problems in the past we are careful with what he eats. He eats Hairball control/Weight control (he is a little tubby) Iams dry food and a can of Nine Lives chunky beef or chunky chicken

Skills:
He is a "shoulder" cat. He loves sprawling out on people's shoulders. It is the only time that he purrs. He gets up there and just turns into a love machine. Most of the time he is pretty clumsy, but he is very good at balancing when he's on shoulders

Dwells:
indoors

Arrival Story:
I wanted to get a kitten. My boss at the time lived on a farm and one of the barn cats had a litter. So I anxiously waited 10 weeks and then she caught one for me. He was the tiniest little worm-ridden thing! But he was SO cute. Looked like a cartoon. Too cute to be real. His name, Newki, came about out of my lack of imagination. I just couldn't come up with a name that seemed to suit him. So when he went to the vet for his first check up/shots etc... they listed him as "New Kitten" on his chart. So my family started making fun of me a few weeks later when he STILL didn't have a name and calling him New Kitten all the time. Eventually it shortened to Newki. But he is still New Kitten when he is in trouble!

Bio:
A few years ago, Newki began throwing up all of his food. He was diagnosed with mega-esophagus. He got so sick that he only weighed a few lbs. The only option was surgery which was not guaranteed to do anything but hurt him even more. It was a devestating year of trying to find a way to cure him. Finally, we decided the time had come to let him out of his misery. He hadn't been able to eat in so long. He was just suffering. So I called the vet and set up an appt. That night our whole family cried, and hugged him, and asked God for a miracle. The next morning, I decided to try and give him some treats, figuring at least he'd be happy for a minute before he threw up. Well, he kept them down. So I gave him more and those stayed down. All of a sudden he could eat! And he hasn't stopped since and it has been over 2 years! The vet couldn't explain his sudden recovery either other than it was a "miracle". So he is Newki the "Miracle" cat now. We are so fortunate and blessed to still have him with us. He is very, very loved. Every day I look at him and am SO thankful that he is with me, happy and healthy.

Sadly, on September 10th, 2006 Newki crossed the Rainbow Bridge. His mega-esaphagus condition had started deteriorating very rapidly over the month before his death. Our home is shrouded in grief. We love him so very much and miss him every day. It is hard to believe he is gone.
