Arrival Story:
One cool, rainy August at our lake cabin, Casey started to paw at the floor. A day or two later we heard a cat meowing, and I saw a small, gray kitty in the neighbor's yard. He meowed when I talked to him, but ran away when I approached. I went back to my cabin, and he followed at a safe distance. He was very thin, so I put food out for him. He tried to eat it so fast that he started to choke on it! He managed to get it down, then slunk off of the deck. He came back the next evening. I continued to feed him, and one drizzly cold morning, he was sitting on the window sill outside of my bedroom meowing pitifully. Since it was the end of the summer, I would be going home soon. Most of the other camp owners had already left. There was no one around to ask about the little kitty, so I let him into our cabin. He immediately made a beeline for the couch, settled down on it, and gave a big sigh, as if to say, "Finally I have a good home!" Casey, my other cat, was thrilled to have a pal. He took to the new cat right away, and they have been best friends ever since. I think that Casey considers Toby to be his cat. He bosses Toby around, grooms him, and graciously lets Toby have whatever is left of his dinner, after Casey is done, of course! Toby is very respectful of Casey, and backs away from the food dish until Casey is done, although lately he has been coming up to me and meowing plaintively when Casey steals his food.

Bio:
Toby is listed as a Domestic Long-hair by his vet. He is a shy guy with a very sweet, passive personality. Even though he is stronger and outweighs Casey, he lets him win their wrestling matches! Toby has been with us 10 years, but has just started to climb into Grandma's lap for pets and kisses. He won't climb into anyone elses's lap yet.

Home Alone (or Now I Know How Macauley Culkin Felt!)

A really weird thing happened last weekend. Saturday morning my family got up extra early and started carrying things out of the house to the car--you know, big boxes, suitcases and stuff. Well usually this means I have to go for big car ride, which I HATE! It makes my tummy so sick, you see. So I did what I usually do when a car ride is in the offing--I hid in Mommy's bedroom. I know she's going to find me and stuff me in that box-thing, but it never hurts to try! (Rmember, you can never be too cautious!) Well, suddenly I heard the door shut and no one came back in to get me! At first I thought, "What a relief! I'll just hang out til they come back later. They always come back when they don't take me with them." So I waited, and waited, and WAITED! NO ONE CAME BACK! By now it was getting dark and I started to get worried. What if there's no food? What if monsters get me? What if there's no food? What if they never come back? WHAT IF THERE'S NO FOOD? Oh, did I mention, WHAT IF THERE'S NO FOOD? Well, I walked around the house and yelled, but no one said, "What's the matter Toby?" I decided to check out the food dish anyway, and what a relief! It was full to the top with food on both sides! Hooray! Well, I made it through the night somehow, and all of the next day. Suddenly it started to grow dark AGAIN! Still no one came home! And now the food dish was starting to be a bit depleted. I was just starting to panic slightly when I heard a car! Oh no! It might be burglers! What should I do? They could take what's left of my food! Oh dear, woe is me! But lo and behold, in walked my Mom, Grandma, Casey, Uncle Dave, and (ugh) Harvey! I was so happy that I had to retire to Mommy's bedroom to recover until all the unpacking hub-bub was over. What I have to go through just to avoid a car ride!

No Terrier today!

Today is a good day! It is very calm and peaceful in the house. As a matter of fact, it is refreshingly Terrier free around here. You see, Harvey went away for the weekend to the cabin by the lake where I came from originally. I hope he enjoys himself. I hope he decides to stay there forever. It really is a lovely place for animals--great earthy and watery smells, lots of mice and chipmunks to chase. He would like it there. Yep. He should stay there FOREVER AND EVER AND EVER. Thank you. Peace out.

Hi!

Hi. I'm Toby. I'm kind of shy and nervous. A long time ago I got lost from my home, and had to live by myself in the woods for awhile. It was very scary. But pretty soon I found this new house that had great food and another cat to play with. WAIT A MINUTE, WHAT WAS THAT? Oh, just a noise I guess. Anyway, the people let me stay and I got warm and fat--WHAT WAS THAT? Oh, nothing. Just a leaf blowing by the window. What was I saying? Oh, yeah--my new house. The people were kind of scary at first. At least the man-types were. I didn't like their feet. But the Mommies were good. They didn't scare me as much. I've been here 10 years now and was just starting to feel comfortable when the people brought this little black monster thing home last year that barked at me. It was horrible! I had to hide under the bed for hours! He doesn't bother me too much now because I'm getting very brave. OMIGOD, WHAT WAS THAT? Excuse me, but I need to go hide in Mommy's room and compose myself. Remember these very important words that I live by: " You can never be too cautious."
