Well, our four pawed alarm clocks found a new way to wake us up this morning, and they were at the other end of the house at the time! Our house has a security system, which we normally do not have activated when we are home, although meowmy sometimes does have the door/window sensors on when she is home alone. Even when the system is disarmed, we still get a triple beep on the control pad in our bedroom whenever any of the door or windows opens or when one of the glass break detectors, one each in the living and family rooms, activates. About six this morning the triple beep went off, waking both of the humans. I found both of the house felines in the living room, with doors and windows secure. Nothing was broken, but in the past the glass break detectors have triggered on something as small as a key dropped on the tile in the entry. Exactly HOW Saphira and Viola managed to wake us up will probably always remain a mystery, because so far neither of them is talking.

Saphira's dad again, I think we have discussed how much Saphira does NOT like any part of getting her nails done one little bit. She hates being forced into her carrier (and I have the scars to prove it!), complains loudly during the drive to Petsmart (a whole three miles, max), and the last time we took her the tech who usually trims her claws was not available, and she did not behave well. She got loose in the grooming room, and after they corralled her again she was so agitated they decided not to even try to do the trim. Yesterday we decided to try again, and I decided to replace the thin little pillowcase in the bottom of her carrier with something more comfortable, so I replaced it with a much thicker bathroom rug. BAD MOVE! As soon as she saw me opening her carrier, she knew what was up (Ocis are VERY smart, and figure things out fast), and immediately hid and would have nothing to do with me. Our bedroom is pretty large and has a lot of nice hiding places, so I decided to just wait her out. Our time was limited, since her preferred vet tech was leaving early. She won the contest, so we decided to wait until today to try again. Later that evening Meowmy was getting ready to feed our spotted pride of felines and asked where Saphira was. I immediately checked out all her favorite hangouts, no luck. I headed into the bedroom to see if she had shown up there and where did I find her? INSIDE the hated carrier, guess she was checking out the new upholstery. Thinking to self, "why can't she do that when I WANT her to?"

Flash forward to this morning; meowmy and daddy are watching the morning news on TV when I notice Saphira again heading into the carrier. Not being a total dummy, I immediately closed and secured the door, and she is trapped, no trauma for either of us, the trip to Petsmart was much more relaxed for her, and she settled right down as soon as we got her home. She is curled up beside me as I write this, and she approves of this entry.

See my sisfur Viola's diary for her story of seeing her first snowfall last Tuesday and Wednesday. I had seen one little tiny snowfall last year, right after I move here to my furever home. It was not all that great, and happened before I was here on Catster, so I never wrote about it. This one was better! A little bit fell Tuesday night, and meowmy called us to come see it, but in the dark it was kind of hard to see. I guess that is why Viola tried to sneak out the front door when daddy opened it to take a look outside, she was lucky daddy stopped her. Wednesday morning it was snowing again when we got up, which really looked cool. Daddy said we had an inch or two on the ground, everything looked so nice and white. We both spent a lot of time in the front windows looking out, our favorite place to take in the world. We would love to get to go out and play in it, but daddy said it would really be cold on our tender paws, and besides, we are indoor kitties.

Saphira and Viola's dad again, adding the same entry to both diaries since I am not sure who is responsible, quite possibly both are involved. I think we have mentioned (multiple times!) how much both of our spotted girls love to play fetch, and how we keep a stash of fuzzy mice on our bed where they are easily available to toss for them to retrieve. They usually toss them around a bit for themselves before they return them to us. The both also sometimes pick them up from the bed and take them to other parts of the house to play with. Over time we have bought dozens of mice, at least fifty or more, but due to the way some of them get stolen and hidden, we were down to about a dozen on our bed. For some reason, over the last week they have suddenly started reappearing! The count went from 12 to 14 to 16 and finally peaked at 21. The number is down a bit, but I really think it is kind of cute how they are returning their toys now. Meowmy says that having two Ocicats is like having a couple of two year olds. Not quite, when our kids were two they NEVER picked up their toys without being told, many times!

As we started saying soon after Saphira (our first Ocicat ever) joined us, she is probably the most interactive and amusing feline we have ever met, and two of them are even more so. They are both just absolute joys!

Thank you Top Cats, I was so surprised this morning when daddy told me I was a DDP today. My sisfur Viola was getting a little bit too taken with herself and her three recent DDPs. She already was getting a bit hard to live with, telling me that my purr is broken and she hers is so much better. It's true, mine is very quiet and gentle, but that is just because I am a very feminine and dainty girl, and my momma cat taught me to always be polite and quiet. I also meow very quietly. Purring a VERY quiet thank you!

I think it has been mentioned here that since Viola and I have been getting along well, we both sleep with meomy and daddy. Usually I curl up with meowmy and Viola curls up with daddy. But sometimes we try something different, like last night. Instead of curling up with meowmy as usual, I decided to spend the night with daddy, daddys need kitty loving too! Daddy was sleeping on his side, and Viola curled up against his, uh, backside. That left me the front, so I curled up against his tummy. With a kitty on each side (and I mean touching daddy, not just close to him), we had him hemmed in so he could not really move without crushing one of us, which of course he would never do. Kind of a "daddy sandwich"! About 6:30 this morning daddy woke up and realized he was getting pretty stiff from being stuck in one position for so long, and he finally gently moved me out of the way so he could move around and stretch a bit. We kitties know all about stretching! To give daddy a little room, I moved over to meowmy and curled up beside her until everybody woke up later. When the breed descriptions say that Ocis like to be near their human servants, they REALLY mean it!

Oh, and big concats to my sisfur for her THIRD DDP in less than two weeks. Way to go, Viola!

Daddy just reminded me that today is a very sad anniversary. Daddy is what he calls a "space geek", and used to work on space stuff. This is the tenth anniversary of a very sad day in space history... On February 1, 2001, the space shuttle Columbia was returning to earth at the end of a successful mission. As it reached the point where heat really built up, a hole in the left wing caused by a piece of insulation the broke free from the tank during launch allowed hot gas to enter the wing and cause damage that ultimately led to the loss of the spacecraft and crew. We are purring very sadly in memory of these brave explorers. Like most of us kitties, they were very curious. They died trying to help us learn more about the universe.

Daddy has been telling you how I have been kind of hissy with my new sisfur Viola, so I thought I should let you know how we are doing. We are getting along much better now, we touch noses a lot, and we also chase each other all over the house really fast. Not sure if meowmy and daddy always like that, because sometimes while we are running we are not really looking where we are going, and we accidentally run into them at warp speed. They still think we are pretty cute when we do that. We also follow them around the house together, and both of us are pretty good about coming when called.
Another note from their dad:

Saphira and Viola's relationship continues to improve, still a hiss and a growl from Saphira once in awhile, but also some touching of noses and a lot of play, chasing each other around the house a lot. Of course they both sleep with us every night and also nap on our bed when we are watching TV. Usually Saphira sleeps with Terri and Viola is with me, but sometimes one of us is lucky enough to have two spotted jungle cats using us for a nap spot. Yesterday I had Saphira curled up on my legs while Viola had her head on my ankle. Of course movement on my part was impossible, but then again, with two sweet Ocis to keep me company, why would I want to move?

Another sales job from me... anyone who might enjoy a beautiful spotted jungle cat who is intelligent, loyal, loving, and very playful and entertaining should look at an Ocicat, they are just a joy! Anyone in Southern California interested can pawmail me and I can give you the contact info for the breeder we adopted our two girls from, he is just a great breeder who loves his kitties, and it shows in our two wonderful Ocis.

More from Saphira's dad...

About time for an update... Viola had really been showing that she wanted to explore the rest of the house, but we were still worried about Saphira possibly harming her, so for a time we would confine Saphira to our bedroom, not a huge problem for her as she spends a lot of time here and it is where her toys, kitty box, and bed (our waterbed!) are located, and it is where she is fed. We then let Viola have the run of the house, and she loves it! One thing her breeder failed to mention about her was her speed: When she wants to work off some energy, she is faster than a speeding bullet! "Her" room is at one end of a hall. It leads past another bedroom, then empties into the entry. On the other side is our dining room. The entry, dining room, and living room are very open, with only oak railings separating the living room from the other areas. From her room to the end of the dining room she has almost 50 feet of uninterrupted running room, and she uses ALL of it! She will tear down the hall, bump into a box at the end of the dining room, then dash into the living room and from there back into the entry, into the hall, and back to her room. She is an absolute little fireball!

We also started letting them meet in our bedroom, larger and Saphira's home turf. She still hisses and growls a bit, and sometimes chases Viola, but no injuries have resulted. Since then we have let them both loose in the house most of the day, and no further problems other than the old hissing, growling, and chases. Viola actually will walk toward Saphira, I get the impression that she might actually like to play. She now spends some time in our bed, think she is starting to like us!
Last night we had what I think was a very good thing. Viola was curled up next to Terri in bed, and I was on the other side working on my laptop. Saphira jumped up on the rail on my side, something she does often. Seeing her nemesis curled up by mommy, she hissed a couple of times, then proceeded to curl up beside me! They stayed like that for a couple of hours, about four feet apart, with no more complaints from Saphira. We are still having Viola sleep in her room at night, just in case they should tangle at the other end of the house while we are asleep, but other that they both are loose most of the time. The only exception is feeding, with Saphira tending to graze while Viola snarfs down her food in nothing flat, she would end up with most of the food and Saphira would probably starve!

From Saphira and Viola's dad (posting in both Saphira and Viola's diaries):

After a fair amount of time spent gradually introducing them with a physical barrier (baby gate), we took Saphira down to have her claws trimmed (just in case), then let them get together for the first time in the bedroom where Viola has been hanging out. Results were kind of mixed, but I view kind of positively. Both of them spent a lot of time walking around the room, not getting too close for quite a while. Saphira was sniffing everything, she did hiss whenever she was close to Viola, but for the most part no really aggressive moves. Maybe a few growls from Viola, but again no aggressive moves. We kept them together (with us there all the time) for over an hour. Toward the end of that time, Saphira moved toward Viola a few times, who jumped on a desk or dresser to evade her. At this point we thought it best to give them a breather and let them both relax and eat. Bottom line was that no actual physical encounter resulted, which I take as a good thing. Thinking about maybe one night having Saphira sleep in the bedroom where Viola has been, and let Viola sleep with us, where Saphira spends most of her time. More to follow!

This had been such a week in Saphira's house! Well, now it is Saphira and Viola's house since Meowmy and daddy brought her home on Saturday, and now my second DDP! They have not actually let us get together yet, something about letting Viola settle in from being packed into a kitty carrier and then an hour car ride to her new home, all strange and new to her, as well as new pawrents. That's OK, I am a very patient kitty, I can wait!

Purring thank you to all my Catster furiends for their nice comments, pawmails, and gifts, you make me feel like a really special kitty. Of course Meomy and daddy are always telling me that, and how spoiled they think I am. I am NOT spoiled, I am a pawsome kitty and I deserve to be well looked after.

Note from Saphira and Viola's Meowmy and daddy - Now that we have a few pictures of Viola, we are going to set up her very own Catster page for her. Her story will continue there. So far she seems to be a really sweet kitty, and a big eater!

Saphira's (and now Viola's) dad again, we drove down to bring Viola to her new home this morning. The cattery is about 50 miles from us, so the trip took about an hour. She was pretty quiet most of the time, Saphira complains loudly when we take her for her pawdicures. Right now she is confined to one of the bedrooms until she gets acclimated to her new home. When last seen she was still hiding under the bed, but we need to give her time to adjust. When we first got her home, we took her (still in her carrier) into our bedroom where Saphira was, just to see how they would react. Not much reaction at all, Saphira did not even investigate the carrier, they both sat and meowed at each other, but no hissing or growling or other signs of aggression, so I take this as a good sign. I think Saphira knows things have changed here, she is being a bit more lovey than usual.

Keeping our paws crossed that they become friends again!

Oh, and did I mention that she is absolutely BEAUTIFUL?

Well, I did not get abandoned yesterday after all, daddy got an email from Jesse (my former daddy) that Viola was still a bit skittish, possibly still recovering from her surgery. Their trip down to meet my possible new furiend was delayed as a result. Hopefully soon, I am really getting anxious to see Viola again.

Daddy made me a neat new place to play last week. He noticed me checking out a big box they were getting ready to throw away, and got the idea that I might like a new hiding place. He kept it, and cut a Saphira size hole in the side for me to crawl through. I have already been inside a few times, I really like it!

I overheard meowmy and daddy talking today, and it looks like they are going to abandon me AGAIN on Monday. You all know how us Ocicats HATE that! But I am going to let it slip this time, since they will be going down the hill to meet Viola, that nice Ocicat who might become my new furiend and playmate. I do hope that they like her; I would love to have a furiend to chase around the house! Maybe we can have competitive fetch contests?

Saphira's dad again... Think I have mentioned somewhere here that Saphira is usually pretty good about not waking us up at ungodly hours, usually waking when we do. Well, there ARE exceptions! This morning I woke up around 5 AM kind of thirsty, happens to me fairly often. Got up and took a drink, then back to bed. Saphira had not moved from her sleep spot, curled up at my feet. I fell back to sleep, but it was not to last... Woke up around 5:20 to the sound of someone pawing through the bag of kitty toys I keep by the bed, followed by paws pounding across the bedroom floor. Remember she has a lot of toys in here. In addition to a collection of fuzzy mouse toys on our bed, there is a nice cat tree and a kitty tunnel with a kitty cube at each end, and when she tears through the tunnel at warp speed she is NOT quiet! After maybe 20 minutes of this, including several trips across our bed, she seemed to run down and settled back in bed beside me. I reached down and discovered a couple of fuzzy mice beside me that were not there earlier. Suspect she took them down onto the floor, played with them, and then returned them for next time.

Took me quite awhile to fall back to sleep, she does do a good job as an alarm clock! For those who might be wondering, she was NOT scolded or disciplined in any way, given that it happens so infrequently I just let it slide, also thankful that at 3 years she still is as energetic and playful as a kitten. We read so many stories on this and other sites about kitties who due to either age or illness don't have the energy to do much but rest and nap, and our purrs go out to them.

Different subject: Heard from the breeder, and Viola, Saphira's possible new playmate, had her spay surgery Monday, so maybe this weekend we can go down to meet her. Eight paws tearing around will make this place a real zoo!

I just overheard meowmy and daddy talking, and from what I understand of what they said, it sounds like another sweet Ocicat (like me!) might be coming to live here! It would be so nice to have another spotted furrend to play with!

Note from Saphira's daddy: She's right, one of our daughters told us that the same breeder where they got Saphira for us has some other kitties available for adoption, and we are considering maybe getting her a playmate. One of the kitties is a sixteen month old female, he describes her as the sweetest cat he has ever met. Since he did such a wonderful job with Saphira, we trust him to have raised her to be a great companion animal. This kitty actually used to sleep on the same bed with Saphira before she came to live with us, so they at least know each other.

Saphira's dad again, looks like "Spots" has won the battle of the kitty food. When she joined our family, the breeder said he fed her canned Fancy Feast, so we did the same. I did a fair amount of research, and concluded that dry food, even high quality grain free, is not a healthy diet for cats, due to hydration issues. In nature, cats get much of their water from their prey, and dry food does not provide any water to speak of. Also found that a lot of the cheaper canned foods contain grain products, which cats do not need and give them too much carbohydrates. Also, the cheaper foods can have meat byproducts and other ingredients that are not the best. Knowing this, we have been trying to switch her to one of the higher quality mainly meat canned foods, like Before Grain and Blue Buffalo. The only way we could get her to eat them at all was to mix in some Fancy Feast, and even then she was not eating like she did on her preferred food. This week we finally decided to declare victory for her, the Fancy Feast we are feeding her is not that bad, and an OK food that she eats is better than a great food she won't. She let out a little victory purr. Kitties can be stubborn!

Yesterday daddy was working on meowmy's computer, said he was installing something called an "Ubuntu". Not sure what that is, meowmy thought it sounded like a tribe in someplace called Africa. He said he had finished when I put my paws up on his chair to get some attention, like a chin scratch or two or maybe some whisker strokes. I do this all the time, and daddy thinks it is pretty cute. Of course sometimes I jump into his lap and settle in for a nap, but this time I was just checking things out. As he gave me scratchies, one of my hind paws slipped and hit the switch on what daddy called a "power strip, and totally shut down the computer! Daddy was kind of surprised, but was not mad at me, told me it was just an accident and nothing was wrong, and that I am still a purrrfect kitty. I know I am a computer kitty, curling up on daddy's shoulder to look at his laptop in bed, but I think I need to try not to do this in the future.

I think I have mentioned Saphira's few tiny issues before. One is a fairly common behavior for Ocicats: They bond very closely with their chosen humans, and are very loyal to them, but some kitties tend to bond to one preferred person, and tend to pay attention to that person over any other. Saphira is that way, and I seem to be her preferred human, which does kind of hurt my wife's feelings a bit when she is ignored by Spots. The second is partly a physical issue, her purr is usually very quiet, very hard to hear unless the room is very quiet and one's ear is very close to her.

I woke up at five-something this morning, finding Terri showing symptoms of the flu... cough, sore throat, and chills. We decided to relocate her to one of the bedrooms at the other end of the house, since it has a heating pad over the mattress which can get pretty warm quickly, which is hard to do with a waterbed. Once we got her comfortable, I returned to our bedroom, since the bed she was in is a double and we are used to a king. Normally Saphira would have followed me back to the master bedroom and curled up in bed with me. Instead, I think the mommy cat instinct came out and she curled up at the foot of the bed with Terri and began to purr very audibly! She kept it up for at least an hour, until Terri fell asleep. It seemed she knew that Terri was under the weather and needed some loving. What a sweet cat!

Mommy and daddy left me alone (again!) last Friday, something about taking my sister (one with two hind paws) down the hill to the hospital to have the cast and some screws removed from her broken right hind paw. But they must have known how upset I would be, because on the way home they stopped and got me one of my favorite things, new fuzzy mousies! They have already figured out that I like some colors better than others, and this time they brought me TWELVE new ones, and in four new colors! There were blue, green, orange, and girly pink ones, and I love them all!. I was pawing at them before daddy even got them out of the package, and I already have hidden one of them. I do that a lot, that is why they have to keep bringing me new ones. I have my secret stash, and just to keep them confused, once in awhile I bring one out of my stash and put it on the bed when they are not looking. We MUST keep our humans guessing!

Saphira's dad again, with a little story from shortly after she joined us - we had already learned how well she listens when told "NO" when caught doing something she is not supposed to. I was sitting at the computer in the den, when I heard the noise of Jungle Cat landing on something that did not sound right. Turning around, I found her sitting prettily atop the copier. Not wanting cat fur integrated into our copies, I told her gently but firmly "NO". She looked back at me with kind of a sad expression, but made no move to leave. I repeated the command, a little louder. This time she turned a bit as if to leave, but hesitated. One final time, even a bit louder and more firmly, she finally turned and hopped off. As she did, she expressed her displeasure with a vocalization I have never heard from another feline, nor from her either before or since. Were she a human, which she thinks she is, I could only describe it as a whimper. Not a normal meow or any other kitty speak, but she definitely sounded disappointed! Just another example of how she is a unique and special cat companion.

Mommy and daddy did it again, that thing I really hate - they left me alone, something about taking Nina, one of my human sisters, to the hospital to have her broken hind paw checked out and her cast changed... I guess I should not complain too much, Nina and her younger sister Mellie were the ones who found me and adopted me for their parents, giving me my furever home.

Anyway, I did my usual complaining once I realized what was going on, but they still left me, even though I was trying to be really cute. Mommy and daddy still have not figured out how I know that I am being abandoned, and I am not telling! A girl has to have her secrets! After they got back, daddy must have felt guilty (as well he should!) for leaving me alone fur HOURS. He returned from a trip to the market that night with a new package of my favorite fuzzy mouse toys... I think I will furgive them!

Note from Saphira's dad: What she did not tell you was how, when I returned with the new mouse toys, she immediately lost all interest in the ones already on our bed. They are identical, but she began pawing at the package of new ones even before I had gotten it open. Can you spell spoiled child? We freely admit that she is spoiled, and plan to keep her that way (but please keep it to yourself, don't let her know about it!)

We have told you friends all about Saphira playing fetch, something that Ocicats are famous for. At first she just did straight fetch, me throwing the toy and her chasing it down and then returning it to me. Since then she has expanded her repertoire, to catching the toy in midair, and throwing the toy either across the room or else into the air to catch again, still finally returning it to me. More recently, if I don't toss the toy for her, she will pick it up and jump down onto the floor with it, then toss it around before returning it. About returning, she has started doing that differently too, hopping up on the bed as always, but instead of dropping it by me, she walks over to the side of the bed, then drops or tosses it onto the floor beside me. Since I can't always retrieve it immediately, I take note of where it is and then go about whatever I was doing. Usually I come back later to find the mouse gone, and find it back on the bed. Nice that she eventually picks up her toys. I think that these changes over time are her way of avoiding boredom, continually coming up with new game variations for herself.

Today she brought me a mouse as she often does to initiate a fetch game. I started playing with her, but this time instead of maybe three or four rounds and then rest time for kitty, she just kept at it over and over again. At first I was not sure why she was so persistent this time, but I think I have it grokked out now: She has been watching the Olympics with us over the last week, and I think she as visions of being in the kittylympics. I guess it takes lots of practice to be an Olympicat!

As any of you owned by Ocicats already know, we are very loyal to our humans, following them around the house and conversing regularly with them. One thing we hate is being left alone, and being very smart like all Ocis, I sensed yesterday that they were getting ready to leave me alone. Something about getting mommy's hair done. Once I figured out what was happening, I started really complaining to daddy about this, and at first he wondered if I was trying to tell him that there was something wrong with me. When he figured it out, he closed the bedroom door, something about keeping me inside so I would not trigger the motion sensor in the living room when they turned on the security system, whatever that is. They left me imprisoned in their tiny bedroom (well, OK, counting the bath and closet it is over 600 square feet, and filled with kitty toys like my big tree, my tunnel, and lots of fuzzy mice), while daddy took mommy to her appointment. Daddy came home a bit later, and took pity on me and let me loose while he waited for mommy to call for him to go pick her up. I quickly took advantage of my freedom to find a place to hide, so I could avoid being locked up again. Daddy looked all over for me, and finally had to leave to get mommy, leaving part of the security system off. That is a good thing, because once shortly after I came to live here they accidentally set it off, and that alarm is LOUD!!! Hurt my delicate ears! Once they got home, and I was pretty sure they were not going to leave me alone again, I walked up and nuzzled daddy "hello", and he really didn't seem mad at me. How could anyone stay mad at someone with spots as cute as mine?

Daddy found these questions on another kitty's profile, and thought I should answer them:

1. Do you ever wake your parents up in the night? Very rarely. When I first came to live here, I would sometimes wake them up in the middle of the night for a little playtime, but not since daddy figured out that if he plays with me enough during the day I get tired and sleep through the night. Now I pretty much go to sleep when mom and dad do, and wake up when they do. I never bother them for breakfast, but wait until they get up.

2. Do you ever tear up things? Not really. I am pretty good about not sharpening my claws on furniture. I do tear around the house a lot though.

3. What is your favorite treat? Various flavors of Temptations, I sit up on my hind legs to beg for them, and then grab daddy's hand with my forepaws and bring it down to my mouth. I also like the snacks of Evo dry food that daddy gives me before bedtime.

4. Can you fetch something when asked to do so? Not when asked, after all I AM a cat, I only play fetch when I choose to. I usually bring daddy the fuzzy mouse I want to play with, then drop it beside him. Sometimes I wait for daddy to throw the toy, then chase it down, other times I will bound over to where I think he will throw it, then leap up and grab it out of the air. I usually then will throw the toy either into the air and try to catch it again, or else across the room and chase it down again. Once when I was in the kitchen with mommy and an ice cube missed her glass and fell on the floor. I picked it up and took it to her in the bedroom.

5. Have you ever lived any place other than where you live now? Yes, I lived with a nice man who bred Ocicats like me, and I was the mommy to some nice Oci kittens. After a couple of years, he decided it was time for me to retire while I was still a young cat, and two of my human sisters thought I would make a nice new friend for their mom and dad.

One thing I don't especially like is my monthly trip to Petsmart for my nail trimming. The trimming itself doesn't really bother me too much, I always behave pretty well, but I don't like being put into my carrier and I meowed all the way in the car. After we got home daddy decided it was also time to groom my coat. As warm as it is here recently, 94 was the high today, daddy has been grooming me every few days. I actually kind of like this, but today I did something unusual for me. As soon as I saw him put the grooming glove on, I walked right up to him to have my pretty spots shined up. With a coat as pretty as mine, I have to take care of it.

I was playing with some of my toys in our bedroom (I let mommy and daddy share it with me), when I decided that the old throw rug that they leave there for me to sharpen my claws on (I don't like scratching posts) might be a fun toy, so I dragged it into the hallway outside the bedroom. When mommy found it there later, she thought daddy had left it, but he ratted me out, he remembered seeing me tearing across the room earlier. They were not too mad at me, but I think they expected me to return it when I was done.

Comment from her daddy: Since shortly after joining our family, Saphira has enjoyed playing fetch with little fuzzy stuffed mice. Our bed is kind of a kitty toy box, full of mice, balls, and teasers. Lately she has been doing a few different things with her toys: She now lets me know when it is play time by picking up the toy she wants to play with, then dropping it beside me. The fetch game starts there. When we are done she usually returns the toy to the bed, but sometimes does leave it on the floor for us to pick up. Now she will often come back later to pick it up and return it to the bed. I can tell she is doing this when I notice a mouse on the floor, and later find it gone, only to find that it's back on the bed. Nice that she is learning to put her toys away when she is through with them. Wish our kids did that when they were young!

Today daddy reminded me that for a smart helpful kitty like me, fetching is not just a fun game for us to play. Shortly after I taught daddy how to play, I was with mommy in the kitchen as she was getting a drink. She did not see that the ice dispenser had dropped one cube on the floor, and returned to our bedroom. Being the helpful cat that I am, I picked up the loose ice cube and took it to her, dropping it beside her. She thanked me, but still threw it into the sink, something about it being dirty after being on the floor. I don't see the problem with that, I would love to catch and eat a mouse, even if it is on the floor.

This is Friday the 13, and mommy and daddy explained to me how lots of people think this is a really unlucky day, but in our house it is a really lucky day, since my human sister Mellie (who helped pick me out and bring me to my new home here) was born on a Friday the 13th.
Last night I was cat napping peacefully away in one of my favorite spots, on top of the cat tree in mommy and daddy's bedroom. About three in the morning I was suddenly jolted out of my dreams of chasing mice... CRASH!!! What was THAT??? And then it happened again! I was really a scaredy cat! I zoomed into the living room to try figure out what had just happened... another crash, and through the big bay window I saw this bright flash. At this point daddy arrived and explained that we were having a really bad thunderstorm, and after he closed the open windows I followed him back into our bedroom and jumped into bed with them, and we all waited out the rest of the storm.

I HATE THUNDERSTORMS!

Note from her dad: I think Saphira was taking a little dramatic license here, she actually did not seem too upset by the storm, mom and dad were probably more concerned than she was(there was a LOT of electrical activity!).
