Arrival Story: Herman was born feral. He saved his entire litter by running up to a cat lady in SE Portland. She named him Gizmo and placed and ad for good homes. I answered the ad and instantly fell in love with him. He did not look like a "Gizmo" to me so he became Herman.

Bio: I adopted Herman after my Father died. He was so funny and sweet that he really helped me recover from the loss. For many years he was truly my best friend. He helped me chose my Husband. When ever a man came to the house, he would hiss, bite and claw. When he first met my husband, he rolled on his back and offered his belly for a rub. When I was first married, Herman would try to squish between me and my Hubby when we cuddled. He would often glare at him with slit eyes but as soon as my Husband fell asleep, Herman would crawl onto his belly and purr, knead and roll around in joy.
Herman called me MAWR and tried so hard to talk. His favorite word was Marowwow. He was a purr machine- If he even thought you might touch or speak to him he began to rumble. He would frequently purr so loud and long that it became a double purr that sounded like a big truck engine.
Two years before his death, we found a stray kitten in or tree. Herman was very jealous at first but I talked to him while feeding him bits of swiss cheese and he forgave me and accepted the new kitty. Within days, he was playing and snuggling with his new brother. Meetings of the WWCF - World-Wide Cat Wrestling Federation began in our hallway at 3am sharp every morning.
Herman died of cancer and kidney failure. He tried to hide outside and die but he could not resist coming to me when I baby-talked to him. He spent his last days on our bed. When it became obvious that he would not recover, the Vet came to the house and gave him a shot while I held him. He was truly a gift from God.
