Monida's musings

Still sick :(

Oh, kitties, I don't know if anyone is up right now, but I need some advice. Monida keeps going to her litter box, but not much seems to be coming out. She had a little bit of diarrhea, but not much.

Then she walked up to me panting. This freaked me out. I was just about to rush her to the e-vet when she stopped. But now she's trying to use the litter box without much success and licking her lips like she's going to vomit.

Aside from all this, she is acting fine and just ate a bunch. I did give her some different food that might have upset her tummy.

Do I need to rush her to the vet? I'll keep an eye on her for awhile, and I'll go if I think anything is amiss, but if you have any advice, please let me know!

Honey, if you're feelng that scared, take her to the vet. The straining and panting just doesn't sound good. It may be nothing but nausea, but better safe than sorry. Mommy had those late night scary runs to ER with me too.

Sending purrs and angel dust that everything is going to be okay.

Thank you so much! She seems to have stopped now and is just hanging out, but if she does it again, I think I'll go. I've just never seen her do anything like this before. Thank you for the purrs!

Hi sweet girl. I've done that very thing when I was constipated but you have diarrhea so that's not it. Something is definitely going on with you honey. I can't remember if they did x-rays on you or not. If they didn't, I think maybe it's time they did. I think another call in to the vet in the morning is a good idea. We're very worried about you sweetie. Tell your mommy to let us know if we can help her okay? We'll check in again later in the morning.

Hi Ingen and Finney! You guys are up late! Or up early? Mom is pretty sure she overreacted. I've just been laying beside her now waiting for her to go to bed. I think all the different food I've had in the past few days has finally caught up to me. I've had four different foods since mom was just trying to get me to eat.

Finney - they haven't done an x-ray - that's the next step if I'm still not feeling better. Mom's gonna watch me closely tonight and tomorrow morning, and will rush me off to the vets if she thinks anything is wrong at all.

Sorry to freak out on you kitties!

I couldn't poop for a few days right after my surgery. I did the straining and grunting thing. (but not panting) While I was constipated a small but of diarrhea did manage to go around the obstructing poopie. My vet made me eat the petromalt tube stuff and out came that days old hard poopie, I felt better.

You want your vet to make sure you're not having a bowel obstruction. (and sometimes urinary problems can look like a cat is constipated. Males are more at risk of fatal blockages though than we are, our urethras are shorter and wider than theirs.)

Up late sweetie, didn't go to bed yet. Mom is worried about her elderly friend in NJ and now we're worried about you. It could very well have been the foods but just in case, tell your mommy to at least call the vet in the morning and let them know what happened. This way if you have to go in, they'll be ready for you okay?

Hi Sweets! Wow! I have lots of friends who stay up late!

I wonder if she's been constipated and that's why she hasn't wanted to eat too much lately. I've been cleaning out her litter box every day, and there's usually both pee and poo. (Thank goodness for Catster where it's ok to discuss this! :))

Finney - don't worry about me! You have enough on your plate right now! I'll be ok, and mom promises to take any action she needs to!

I haven't even gone to bed yet. I turned off my computer hours ago and then got worried about my friend. Then Colette emailed me about Monida. I think we're all on edge with this THING coming this way.

I also think it must have been the 4 different foods. Our tummies just don't like so much change. Purring that you are feeling better.

We'll, I'm going to head off to bed. It's only 2:30 here - my normal bedtime! :) I'll keep you all posted on what's going on. Thanks so much for caring. It means so much to me!!

This is funny, now Alfie is up!!! MOL! Monida sweetie don't tell me not to worry about you, I love you! You can be constipated even though you're going. When I got like that I through up after I strained like that. I couldn't hold anything down all day. Mom had NO idea I was backed up because I was still pooping! But the vet took xrays and there it was! Not a lot, but just enough to make me uncomfortable and in pain. Call the vet in the morning and ask them if it would be alright to give you a little bit of Miralax. But DON'T give it without talking to them first. Just in case they thing something else is going on.

Mommy and I hope you feel better real soon Mo!!! You are such a sweetheart. I had a similar issue but mine was that I has trouble peeing and was straining because of that. Turned out I had a crystal. I have diarrhea a lot so I do not know if that played in or not. We hope you are better real soon-Head butts and purrs.

My mom's cat has this same thing, too, straining and panting with small amounts of diarrhea and it's from crystals, too. It comes in episodes, especially with stress, and she goes on her meds and is fine in a day or two. Of course, she has that special food.
Hope you are doing better this morning!! Luv, Tink

Hi everyone, wow that was a late night and wouldn't yo know it was on a night when mom turned in early (1 a.m.) and she nevr does that.
I wanted to say Mondia I did that several times when (not the pating but litter box strain and just sitting in there) and it was because I had a slight bladder infection. Did the vet do a urine check when you were there?
lots of love sweet kitty glad you are eating again.

I didn't stay up late, but dang, I should have because there is some good poop talk in these diary comments! You should go to the vet if you can't make poopies because they know how to fix stuff like that. Violet licks his lips when he is getting ready to flojectile, so maybe you just had an upset tummy. I hope you didn't swallow something and it is stuck in your poop tube.
