Cat Of The Day!!

Wow was I surprised to be chosen as COTD today! I just never felt very special even though my mom said I was. I am just a stray off the streets. Or I guess I was since I have a great furever home now. Thank you Catster for the honors.

I'm glad lots of you enjoyed the story of the tabby "M" from Louis LeBeau. He used to think maybe every cat has an "M" but some just get hidden by breed or color markings. That might be true.

Thanks to all my friends who are helping me celebrate my special day today. You cats ROCK! Hope all have a very merry Christmas.

Carrying On The Tradition

My big brother Louis LeBeau used to like to post the following story in his diary at Christmas. I will now post it in mine in honor of him. I hope you enjoy it:

My Christmas legend is about tabby cats and how we got the "M" marking right above our eyes.

And so it came to pass that a husband and wife journeyed to a small town called Bethlehem, as the king had decreed that all the people stand to be counted in the small towns and teeming cities from whence they came. The journey was long and hard for both, but especially for the young wife, who was very near to bringing her firstborn son into the world. When they at last reached the crowded and noisy town, the expectant father searched hurriedly for a place for them to rest and where the child could safely be born. But at every door, he was told there was no available room. Finally, an old innkeeper, though having no space left in his inn, took pity on them and offered them shelter in the small stable used by his animals. It was there that the child was born, surrounded by beasts of the field. As the night's cold grew, the baby fretted and cried while his parents pondered how to make him comfortable. His father tried stuffing straw into the open places in the walls, and his mother tried warming him with her meager wrappings. But still, the baby cried on. All the while, a tiny cat watched from the corner. "Of course the little baby is cold," the cat thought. "It has no fur to keep it warm! I will give it mine, and I will lullaby-purr it to sleep." A little jump brought the cat into the manger where the baby lay. There, he quietly gave his humble gift of warmth and love, gently stretching out his thin, fragile little body over the baby's, careful to cover all but the infant's face. The crying was soon replaced by soft purrs and coos, and slowly, the infant smiled. As Mary, the new mother, witnessed this gift to her child, she touched the little cat's forehead. "Thank you, Little Tabby, for your gift of love and warmth. As a sign of my grateful blessing, you and all your descendents will forevermore carry my initial on your forehead."

And to this day, tabby cats are known by the remarkable "M" on their foreheads, and by their extraordinary gifts of love, so gently given.

Thanks & more

Hi there!

It has been awhile since I have written. I want to thank every cat for the fun and pretty Easter eggs that were given to my family. We hope all of you had a nice Easter. We know we didn't quite get all the eggs out that we wanted to give. So we apologize to those we missed. We do love ya though.

Tristan is not doing real well. One day his limp is much better but then the next day it is much worse. He's been real good about not climbing or jumping much. He uses the cat stairs or other means to get where he wants to go. He just seems a bit depressed. So he will most likely have to go back for further evaluation.

I've been doing pretty well. Still my feisty self. I am enjoying the ground hog again. He seems to have emerged from his long Winter nap. He is hanging around our pond a lot most days. The chipmunks are also back out. They may be sorry as it was snowing again this morning with the sun out! I tried to find a snowbow (like a rainbow) but don't even know if they exist. MOL!

Have a great day!

A Lively Pond

I am like Ethan in that I like watching the frogs in our pond. I counted 15 the other day but probably there are more. Last night I saw a baby frog- not a tadpole but a real baby frog. He was maybe an inch and a half long. We never saw many of those when we had big fish in the pond. My dad added about 30 little orange feeder comets to have some fish out there. These fishies would have been fed to whatever eats them in the pet store so he saved some lives by buying them.

My mom found a Monarch butterfly by the pond. He had a big bite out of his tail. She thought a frog probably did it. She ran in the house to get something to put him in. Our neighbor has been taking care of a Monarch with a broken wing for some time now so she was going to take it to him. Well when she went back out to catch the butterfly, it was gone. She's doubtful he could fly with his injury so she thinks maybe a frog got him after all. :(

Ethan & I are doing a little better. He doesn't hiss at me anymore. Sometimes he even sleeps pretty close but I am still in the cage while in the sunroom. It's nice though as it has 3 levels for me to run up & down. Tristan & I play a lot but then I can get carried away & put my claws in his long soft fur. He doesn't like that & walks away. Heehee

Back to my pond gazing!

Gotcha Day 2012

Today I celebrate another Gotcha Day with my family. This year I have a new baby brother named Tristan whom I love a lot. Well he's a year old now but that is a baby to me. MOL! He's very kewl & lets me put my claws into his soft long fur.

I have had lots of wildlife to watch lately. We have a young raccoon that stops by looking for food. Then I saw a rabbit yesterday. Plus the groundhog, deer, chipmunks & squirrels. No more fish to watch as last January they all disappeared. My mom has not said much about it because it makes her so sad. Our one koi was HUGE! Every fish was gone so they had to be eaten by a Great Blue Heron as we don't see other predatory birds like that. Grumpy frog is still here much to Ethan's delight. Dad wants to bring dirt & fill in the pond. Mom is not sure. Both feel there is no use to stock a pond just to have the fish eaten like that. :(

Anyway on a happier note I am going to enjoy my special day today. Happy Mother's Day to all a bit early!

Meows,
Kirby D.

Same Old, Same Old

I'm still here & doing fine. I have a good buddy in Tristan but not so much with Ethan. I get in a bad mood when I see him. I guess we didn't start off on the right paw & it has stayed that way.

I sit with the family & watch TV but I do hafta stay on Dad's lap. I don't mind as I am a lap cat anyway. TV doesn't interest me much. I'd rather stare at Ethan. MOL!

Not much new with me as I don't do much in Winter. I am glad Spring is close though. I see a lot more action outside then. I am just waiting for those chipmunks to wake up & come for seed. Way too enticing for me.

Meows,
Kirby D.

Nice to be 3 Years Old

Today I turn 3 years old! It's nice because I am sure that I would not even be alive if not for my pawrents taking me into their house. I am still rough around the edges but that is due to all I went through before I had a furever home. I like my new brother Tristan. He's a real good kitten. He respects me. Still not fond of Ethan. Oh I think he is a good kitty too but he runs from me which makes me want to chase him. Then things turn ugly in a hurry! But not so bad even for a cat like me who would prefer to be an only cat in the house. MOL! Anyway time to go play with my new toys. I just thought I'd let you know how glad I am to be alive & celebrating another birthday. Have a great day my friends!

Meows,
Kirby D.
