"My name is Penny. I'm a very special cat. I'm both blind and deaf and for a while, I was homeless. I was fortunate, though, 'cause now I live at the Blind Cat Rescue in North Carolina. Won't you be my friend?"
"Do you like my new rhinestone collar? A furriend of the blind cats sent us collars and I got the prettiest one. I feel very special in my new outfit!"
"Each room at the new Rescue cat house has a window and door leading to the long central area used for storage, food prep, etc. I enjoy sitting in the window and sniffing the world around me."

indoors Arrival Story: Penny is both blind and deaf.
She was brought to us by a lady from the mountains who had her for a year or so. She stated that she had found Penny on her front porch one day, and she wouldn't leave. The lady told us that she was allergic to kitty litter and no longer wanted the cat. She had tried for a year or so to find a home for her and no one wanted her. Penny was very lucky that a friend of the lady knew what was going on and contacted us to take her.
Penny is a super sweet girl with a big time purr. I have never seen a cat that liked to climb as much as she does. When we look for her, we know to always look up because Penny will be at the top of the climber.
Someone had loved this cat at some point in her life. When the lady found her, Penny was already spayed and declawed. Lives Remaining: 7 of 9 Forums Motto: Count your blessings! Background:
Blind Cat Rescue: Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary was started to answer the need for a safe place for blind cats that were deemed unadoptable by regular shelters and were going to be killed just because they are blind.
We are a registered non profit with the state of North Carolina. There are no paid employees, only volunteers, so all contributions go directly to the kitties.
Rescue is about restoring hope and dignity to creatures for whom no one else cares about. We are but humble vessels to help these magnificent creatures find their forever homes. The responsibility is big but the returns on our emotional investment are greater. You cannot place a value on the look of contentment that comes when an animal is clean, exercised, warm, fed and safe for the first time in its life.

We are very excited here at Blind Cat Rescue! Our beautiful new cat house is almost finished! We're moving this weekend!!! Our new house will provide a caring, safe home for 40+ blind cats - just like me! (I'm also deaf...) The land was donated and the building constructed thanks to generous donations - large and small.
Our Catster Meowmy, who keeps our Catster pages looking pretty, is coming to help us move. She promises to post lots of photos of us and of the new house here on Catster very soon.
I just want to thank every Catster who has bought an item from either Katie Scarlett's Attic (stores.shop.ebay.com/Katie-Scarletts-Attic) or Raise the Roof (http://raisetheroof.angelfire.com/index.html), we send you zillions of purrs! All of you members of the Friends of the Blind Cats Group who've sent donations for Catster Meowmy to bring us a truckload of goodies this weekend, we're giving you tons of sandpaper kisses. You've helped make this possible!!
To my boyfriend, Christopher, Catster Meowmy promises some special photos for your mommy to tell you all about!!
The blind cats are SO excited!! Our rescue has the chance to win $10,000.!!!! I don't know much about money, but the humans seem to think this is a LOT.
The best part is...our Catster furriends can help! And it's so easy!

My name is Penny. I'm a very special kitty now living at the Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary in North Carolina. You can read my whole story on my Catster page.
Right now, I want to play!!!!! China Doll (704880) has tagged me for a game of Thanksgiving Tag. I love to play and this year, I have a lot to be thankful for. I have to name five things for which I'm thankful then tag five of my new Catster friends to play, too.
Here I go!
1. I'm SO, SO thankful to be living in a safe, comfortable cat house at the Rescue. Most blind cats are never given the chance for adoption at a shelter and since I'm blind and deaf, if I had ended up there...I don't like to think what would have happened. So number one on my thankful list is being thankful for the Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary!!!!
2. I'm SO thankful for the people on Catster!!!! They've become our friends, our guardian angels, and our sponsors. Catster has done SO much for our Rescue, and we're ALL thankful here for each and every act of kindness.
3. I'm thankful for cat climbers! I just LOVE to climb and it's such good excercise for me.
4. I'm thankful for warm, sunny days when I can like in the sun and feel the warmth on my fur.
5. I'm thankful for my purr. People seem to like it when I purr, then they love on me some more...so I purr louder...and they stroke me more...and I purr...well, you get the idea.
