Arrival Story:
I had Maggie for about 6 months...and felt like she was lonely during the day when everyone was at work. I was aware that originally she was given to the SPCA with her brother, who suddenly had a strong dislike toward Maggie. I thought maybe she missed the good ol' days of having a friend around...so I found Ruby at the same shelter about 6 months later. Ruby was extremely sweet and already front declawed. She reminded me a lot of Kitty in looks and personality, too. I took her home and immediately she was ready to explore and call everybody her best friend - including Maggie. However, Maggie became very agressive and I didn't let them meet face to face for awhile - even though Ruby was aching to come out of her room to explore. eventually they met, and Maggie was very rude...attacking her, swatting at her, etc. Ruby didn't seem to mind - at first. she still wanted desperately to be friends. but after a year of this sort of treatment, Ruby gave up on that idea. eventually they came to tolerate each other. and now they even eat together and sleep within inches of each other. I'd like to think if they were seperated (which they won't be!) they would both miss each other. but unfortunately they do not cuddle or anything like that. sometimes one will let the other lick or sniff the other one, but only if i'm present to make sure everyone plays nice.
Bio:
I always thought that Ruby used to live with an opera singer....if you sing to her she just goes crazy! she loves it. she's not so animated about it these days, but when she was first adopted, she would come running to me if i sang to her, and jump up on my lap and try to get in my face. very rare for a non-lap cat!

this is my first post in 2005. it's been a busy year already! just last weekend my entire universe shifted; the old grey couch mysteriously disappeared and was replaced by a sage green loveseat. i don't know what that means, but i keep hearing people say that, so i assume that's what it is. anyway, it's real soft and i've got dibs on it since Maggie stole my foot stool. the old white shag rug is gone too...i kinda miss it. this new green one feels funky on my paws. so i just stay up on the loveseat all day.

sometimes i get this weird urge to run around the house like a big ol' spazmoto once in a while. i did just that last night before bedtime, and mamma exclained, "rubes! stop frapping!"
well i didn't know my little activity had a name, so today i looked it up on catdictionary.com. and here's the definition:
