Arrival Story: In 2005 a friend brought us to a wonderful cat shelter near Cleveland. We walked around and saw the shy cats, older cats, special needs cats, then entered the kitten room, where we saw all sorts of gorgeous babies. There seemed to be one little guy in the cat house who didn't want to come out. He popped out to attack a finger, then retreated. The second time he popped out, he sat in the corner and looked up at us. We couldn't resist picking him up. He purred the whole time, even while "attacking" fingers. As adorable as he was, we already had a "full house" and didn't plan on bringing a new one home. As we started to leave, the staff told us that since he was a black cat, he would probably be there for awhile. Being volunteers at another shelter, we were all too aware of the black cat syndrome - they tend to sit in cages for weeks, months, and sometimes even YEARS because of their color. Still, we thought with that wonderful personality, someone would snatch him up. We kept track of Mario online and after seeing he was still at the shelter a few months later, we went to see him again. He'd been moved from the kitten room to the cat room. He was just as sweet as ever, chasing bits of food around the floor and staying out of the way of a much larger, less friendly cat. We knew we couldn't leave him again. On the way home he fell asleep in the carrier. Once home, we put him in a "safe room" and opened the box. He was still zonked out from all the playing at the shelter and long drive home. One by one, we let our other cats into the room. Each ever so quietly peeked over the top of the box at the sleeping baby. Eventually Mario woke up and started to explore his new home, making friends with the other cats instantly.

Bio: Mario lives and loves to be loved. He gives more kisses than any cat I've ever known and wants smooches in return. Once the motor starts, the kisses aren't far behind!
