I've been here, with Mama & Daddy, in my fur-efurr home for 3 1/2 years. Soon after I arrived I received my name. You see, no one knew what name I had before, so Mama & Daddy chose thomas macguffan (the lower case conceit is intended). thomas was to honor several wonderpurr kitties Mama has known, macguffan was chosen because a "macguffin" is "something searched for, difficult to find, an impetus for a plot". Mama said that suited me because for the first months I lived here I was always hiding, difficult to find.

I liked my name. It's a fine name. It suits me. I answer to it. The nicknames "tommy mac", "tommy, can you hear me?" are cute & work too.

Then Tuesday night, I'm sleeping on the back of the couch. Minding my own business. Faintly, I hear Mama laugh. Then I feel her nudge me. She asks me a question, but I was sleepy & didn't catch it. I may have purred agreement....but REALLY? Can a sleeping cat be held responsible for such an utterance?

It turns out that I have agreed to a NEW NAME. Are you ready for this? This? THIS INSULT to my full figure??

My new full name is: Lord thomas macguffan TUBBINGTON!

Lord TUBBINGTON??

Me? A TUBBY in TON?????

I ask you....have you ever heard of such an insult???

Tell me Catsters, what should I do?

thomas, you have my complete sympathy! My mommy once called me Chubb o Lubb before I slimmed down and it was most displeasing. Let your mommy know that cats do not like being laughed at. What to do about it? Hm . . . we cats must maintain our dignity at all times and I suggest pretending you don't hear her when she says that insulting name. Ignore her! (but not when it involves getting treats!)

We called Cleo that one time and patty told her she was fatty. Guess what? She paid us back big time. She peed on the bed Pappy's side and peed on a few othe things. Who says cat don't get hurt feelings! So we just say she's a large girl or plu sized. That seem to work. Cause she knows Grammy is a plus too.
So tell your momcat to watch her comments, and look in the mirror before thowing stones.
