Arrival Story:
Smokey, his brother Bandit, and their four sisters were abandoned on Father's Day 2002 in a cardboard box outside a Publix grocery store in South Miami. They had no food, no water, and no shade in the 90+ degree heat, and were only 4-5 weeks old. A kind woman found them and took them home, even though she already had 5 kitties of her own. They were very dehydrated but otherwise okay. She had a vet friend deworm them and give them their first shots, and then began finding homes for them. Luckily, her son and his new wife were looking for a kitty of their very own. They had just moved to the DC area, so she took both boys and drove them to North Carolina. Her son and his wife met her there to pick up their new kitty friends. As for the sisters, one went to her mother, one stayed with her to become cat #6, and two found very nice homes with her friends in the Miami area. Smokey and The Bandit have lived in DC ever since and have always seemed to appreciate their water dish a bit more than other cats. When their rescuer came to visit a few months later, they recognized her immediately and ran to love on her for hours.
Bio:
Smokey loves people. Whenever we have guests, he brings them his favorite toys and rolls over so they may appreciate his fuzzy belly. Gets in stranger's laps, curls up, and falls asleep. He has been known to play "fetch", especially with one of his plastic straws. Most of all, he loves to be talked to... he'll start purring from across the room as soon as you say his name. He is a wonderful kitty companion!
