An Old Feline's Few Thoughts

Toothless is not defenseless

Well, being toothless doesn't mean my mouth is harmless. Mama found THAT out!

I started snoring about a week or so ago. And mama had noticed she could hear me breathing. Not like I'm wheezing or anything, just breathing loud. So despite the fact that traveling causes me a lot of pain, I had to go in for a check. With my 21st birthday coming up, mama wanted a senior panel ran anyway.

Once at the vet, I went first to get it all out of the way. Mama was the one who held me as she knows how to do it and hurt me the least. For those who don't know, I have a hip condition that is VERY aggravated by stress and makes me hurt terribly. Anyway, mama knows not to draw back if I try to bite as I don't have any teeth. If you draw back, I can get you with the claws. ^~~^ I've got a great voice for an old kitty... the WHOLE office heard me when I screamed. The vet and the tech both snatched their hands back but mama didn't even flinch. I bit her hand behind the base of her thumb. Before they'd even finished drawing blood and urine there was already a bruise!!! If I had teeth, mama says she'd have needed a doctor!!

They took me into the back to draw everything and when they brought me back, the vet told on me!! I didn't make a peep the whole time I was in the back. I didn't start growling again until the brought me back to where mama was... mol!!! Now she knows some of it is all blown out of proportion! Darn.

I spent the evening growling if I even SAW one of my sisters. Mama finally ended up with a massive headache and put me in the bathroom with some food about 3am. When I came out, I quieted down some... guess 12 hours of almost non-stop growling and yowling was more than she could take... hehehe...

My blood and urine tests all came back pretty good. A couple of kidney counts were up but he said that was likely due to the half-dose of metacam I get before I take a road trip. Mama hates giving it to me, but there's nothing else. Also, one number showed I do have arthritis too so she'll look into something for that. And there was a teensy elevation in the white count so I start on a 7 day course of Clavamox tomorrow when mama gets it from the pharmacy.

Glad to know that you showed everyone that "older ladies" are not to be messed with. You should have at least hissed in the back room.

I'm still learning about taking up for my self. I'll add your experience to my Rambo Kitty School file.

Good on you!!!!

I'd already screamed loud enough for everyone to hear... hissing would have been a down grade. I thought silence was more intimidating. ^~~^ Even the vet said he was a bit worried about taking me back to draw blood and urine... and the tech commented that mama didn't flinch or anything when I screamed and started biting and scratching. She said she's so used to me being a b*tch it didn't faze her anymore... mol!!! Old and attitude I got the market cornered on!

Tia, don't forget the claws. I did get three good holes in mama before it was all over with... mol! The vet said just let go, but mama was scared I'd fall off the table. I don't get far from the floor these days ya know.
