Arrival Story: I was working for a local grocery store, and our receiving clerk discovered a tiny gray kitten living in the alley behind the store. Fearing the worst, should a truck come in and the kitten not be able to get out of its way fast enough, the clerk trapped her in a watermelon crate and I brought her to my vet. The vet pronounced her healthy but flea-ridden, so I took her home and gave her two flea baths.

Bio: Tasha moved with us to NC in '98, then back to IL a year later. She lived with my parents until the summer of '06; I had moved in to take care of my ill mother (Dad passed away in '00), and discovered that neither my mom nor her roommate were feeding her properly. She had been an 11-pound cat; that summer, she weighed in at 4.5 pounds, less than HALF her usual weight. I made many trips to the vet with her; she had a thyroid problem that didn't want to be regulated, and she was ALWAYS hungry. She acted like she was in pain much of the time, but still played and ate and purred like a kitten. Tasha moved back to NC with us in May 2007. As of this writing (8/30/07), she is just over 15 years old; I know her time to move on to the Bridge is drawing near, and I plan to make sure she is happy during the time she has left.
UPDATE (3/3/08)
In November 2007, it was apparent that Tasha was in pain, as she would cry out whenever we picked her up or pet her. She would vomit up whatever she ate. So we made the difficult decision to put her out of her misery, and send her to the Bridge where she would be happy and healthy once again, and would play with her furry siblings until my arrival. On Tuesday, November 6, Tasha and her sis-fur Abby both made the trek to the Bridge. Tasha, we love you so much, and we will dearly miss you....RIP little one.
