Arrival Story:
I wanted a kitten so I looked in the paper for free kittens. Max came into my life when he was 5.5 weeks old. 4 weeks later we were in a car moving across country from Virginia to Oregon.

Bio:
max was named after the new river, which flows north from western north carolina through southwestern virginia and merges with the gauley river in west virginia. he is very sweet, very loyal to me, he yells very loud and frequently but rarely ever bites, he is tentative with new people at first, he's playful when he wants to be, he needs his own space yet he can be seen giving the others (not smudge) baths, he's my favorite and he knows it. in 2003 i discovered max has eosinophilic granuloma disease, a treatable ulcer type growth, on his tounge. the vet treated him with the standard steroid shot.. but the steroid shot gave him an awful infection, which spread down his leg. i found him one morning curled up at the bottom of my clothes hamper, not moving, barely doing anything. went to the vet a few hours later, got antibiotics, and an iv for dehydration.. he was back to normal 2 months later. he's been fine since, minus some hair that never grew back. anyhow, i consider that one of his 9 lives lost. on 17 august 2006, after moving to logan, utah - and leaving my window without a screen open, max lost yet another life. he got curious, stepped out of the window and on to the roof outside.. which is slanted. poor thing slid right down and busted his nose. i just say, its a good thing he's got 8 lives, because he just lost another one.
