Quick Bio:
-cat rescue
Birthday: March 13th 1996 Coloration: Bicolor Likes: I like sitting my butt down on people's feet and hanging out in my screened-in garden. And a chin scratch never bothered me! Pet-Peeves: I don't like the vet and don't try to pick me up or hold me or I'll put up a fuss. But don't leave me, I don't like being alone even for a little while! Favorite Toy: A nice, broken-in catnip mouse or a milk carton ring. Oh, and the lizards that let me catch them.... Favorite Nap Spot: I'll find a new comfy spot every 2 weeks or so! I get bored easily. Favorite Food: she likes commercial junk food the best, but she's been getting home cooked and raw for 2 years Skills: Chasing bottle tops across the wood floor is tons of fun, and so is jumping off walls during an excercise spurt. I got a cat door, but I like making the servants let me in and out all day, they are such suckers. Dwells:
indoors Arrival Story: I was living in NY city and was bored one day, so decided to go to the animal shelter up on E 110th street to see the animals. I was a struggling actor and had done an independent film in upstate CT that year on a farm. They had a black kitten named Shadow who used to nap on my chest while I slept or watched TV. I was hooked. I thought adopting a black cat would be cool, but at the shelter all the black cats hissed at me and weren't particularly friendly towards me. On my way out of the cat-room, the volunteer pointed to a cage and said "what about that one?" This little kitten stepped down off her perch and it was love at first site. The kitten let me hold her, didn't fuss, and seemed really comfortable. (up until that point I didn't understand what people meant when they said you don't chose your cat, your cat choses you) I put her back in her cage and thought, well, I really only came here to look. I noticed the card on her cage that had breed, age, gender, and other info was folded in half so you couldn't read it. When I asked why that was, the volunteer said it meant she had been here too long and would be put down in the next day or two if not adopted. Before she could finish the sentence I said I'd take her. She was about 6 months old at the time. Bio: I made a huge mistake and had her declawed. I stupidly didn't research what they do when they declaw, I didn't ask other cat owners for opinions. My parents didn't want her scratching their stupid expensive furniture on visits and I didn't realize how smart they are and how easily they learn to use a scratching post. I just didn't do my homework. She suffered for weeks after the declaw and her personality changed. She's okay now, but it's affected her throughout her life and I regret it every day. Please take my advice, DO NOT DECLAW!! Buy a carpet covered scratching post, not one of those cheap cardboard ones with catnip (my cat didn't react to catnip until she was over 3 years old) and a spray bottle with water in it. Show your kitty how to scratch the post if there's no mother around to learn from, and whenever kitty goes for the furniture, spray him with the bottle. They are very smart and will learn fast. I feel guilty every day for having her declawed, don't make the same mistake! Lives Remaining: 5 of 9 The Groups I'm In: 10 YEARS OR OVER??? Vet thinks Bama may be in the early stages of CRF - renal failure. Abnormally high are her Calcium, cholesterol, Eosinophils levels. Her Specific Gravity is just below the normal range, her thyroid t4 is 2.7, up slightly since May. And her Creatinine is up from 1.4 to 2 since May as well.
Bama threw up yesterday, twice in a row in the morning after I fed her and went back to bed, and again at dinner time. Not sure why. We got through a whole week, so that wasn't bad. She bounced back and is eating like a champ again.
I put off taking her to the vet yesterday after she had a big healthy poop on Wed night, found out I can't use baby food as veggie, there's no fiber. I added celery/cauliflower to her food and that seems to help. Hopefully she'll poop again today or tonight.
Seem to notice she pees less on days she poops, so maybe the more frequent pee has been because of the lack of fiber in the baby food.
I may still take her in Monday to get blood and urine tests, just to be sure, but will see how the digestion goes over the weekend.
The new pork diet seems to be working wonders, no throw up in a whole week! Still working out the constipation issues, but have Lactoferin from the vet if we get in a bind, it worked like crazy yesterday.
I added some vitamin E to her food when I made a new batch last night, and just a pinch of Lactoferrin to get her used to it, that is supposed to be great for rodent ulcer and IBD.
The only thing I'm concerned with is she's peeing about 8 times a day and drinking lots of water, but she's out on the porch a lot in the heat and humidity, so that could be it. Will go back to the vet at the end of the week, get her weighed and maybe do a urine and/or blood test to be safe. Don't want her to get diabetes, although she came up negative 2 months ago and hasn't had a steroid shot since.
