Arrival Story: I was in college at the time and returned in January from Christmas vacation. One night, it was cold and rainy outside and a pitiful little kitten showed up wet and crying on our back porch. We assumed someone owned him, but couldn't bear to leave him out in the cold rain (almost cold enough for sleet). So, we brought him inside for the night. The next night, we didn't see him, so we locked up and went to bed. At around 3:00 AM, my roommate and I were startled awake by a strange noise. We looked out the window and this little kitten had climbed the metal screen on the front window. My roommate opened the front door, which scared him, causing him to fall off the window, but had the screen still attached to his claws. He ended up trapped, upside down in the hedges with the screen on top of him.
We brought him in again and that night, he had diarrhea and got it ALL over the place. That's how he got the name Montezuma! Anyway, the next morning, we took him to the vet and they told us that he had several different kinds of worms and parasites and was so sickly and malnourished that he wouldn't have survived the week if we hadn't taken him in for treatment. They also mentioned that he may always have digestive problems, but at least his odds at survival were good after being treated.
That was when we decided that he must have been stray and adopted him. We asked around the area, just to be sure and it turned out that he had been abandoned by some football players who had graduated in December.

Bio: Within a year of adopting Monty, he went from malnourished and super-skinny to being a huge cat! Our vet says that structurally, he probably should be around 17 lbs. However, he's quite a bit overweight and is about 22 lbs! Yes, I know it's not healthy for a cat to be overweight, but it's very hard to regulate when I have two other kitties that are of normal weight (or under).
When we first found Monty, although he was friendly, he was very independent and a little aggressive. We think that his previous owners were rough with him. I don't think they were abusive, but I think they weren't used to cats and treated him more like a dog. Anyway, it's taken some time, but we've turned him into quite the lapcat :). He's just a big sweety now! He's quite the nuzzlebug!
