Sam showed up at my friend's apartment complex in Costa Mesa. One day, while I was on my way to feed my friend's cats, Sam popped up out of a planter, the kind that are raised up above the ground. When he saw me, he meowed, then hissed, then meowed, then hissed, then meowed, etc. And all the while, he followed me down the walkway towards my friend's apartment. I fed my friend's cats, and when I went back out, there he was, sitting across the walkway in another one of the planters. Sam was skin and bones and had no collar, so I left a bowl of dry food and water there in the planter, and gave him a can of food for right then. A week went by, and my friend kept an eye out for him, and sure enough, he would come by every evening. He obviously needed help. He was a sack of bones with a little fur on him, and not neutered. I packed him into a carrier (not difficult considering how hungry he was!), and Sam went to see the vet. After getting his check-up and a clean bill of health, he was ready for a nice forever home. I wish so much he could stay with us. Sam was one of the most affectionate and sweet kitties, without being a lap cat, that I've ever known. I miss him every day.
Sam was about 1 1/2 to 2 years old. He was neutered, and tested negative for FIV and FeLV. Sam now has all of his vaccinations. He had an abscess on his rump, but he took antibiotics and it's scabbed over, so now his fur just needs to grow back where they shaved him. Otherwise, he's a bit skinny, and has a few spots where is fur is thin.
Sam is going to fill out nicely now that he's on a regular diet. He has such long legs! He's going to be even more handsome than he is now! Sam loves to be scratched on the head, under his chin. He purrs softly and looks at you with big bright yellow eyes of contentment. Sam needs a forever home with someone willing to give him a little extra love and attention. He's such a sweetheart. Sam loves to talk, and trills and prrows all the time.
UPDATE!! Sam's been in good care for over three weeks, and has gained weight, his abscess is healed, and his fur is becoming thicker and shiny! He needs about three minutes to warm up to someone new, and then he loves them. He loves everyone, and is SO affectionate! Sam's filled out nicely already, more pics coming soon.
UPDATE! It's been over a year now since Sam went to his forever home. He has a kitty brother who he loves and loves him, and a human mom and grandma - grandma stays home all the time. That means he gets tons and tons of attention. His new mom found an herb that helped him stop licking his fur off of his tummy, and now he's covered in fur! I'm happy for Sam and his new family, but I still miss him.

Sam was adopted today April 14, 2007 through the Community Animal Network. He's going to a great home with a super nice lady to take care of him; her mother is at home all the time, and another male cat, a ragdoll that's very affectionate. Yay Sam!!!

I have a new place to stay. My foster mother brought me to her place until I can find my forever home. I had become used to everyone at the Cat Hospital, humans and cats, so I was a little irritated to leave, but... I'm set up here pretty well I think. She bought a bed just like the one I slept in at the cat condo at the vet... Got some nice bowls, some premium food, a litter box, a scratching post, a few catnip and other toys... Meow meow!

My name is Sam. My little world just changed big time - for the better. I've been eating well for a couple of days now, which is fantastic! I'm staying at the doctor's office in a nice cozy kennel/cage/cabinet type thing. It's about 2 and a half or 3 feet high and wide, and three walls are solid. The fourth side is clear plexi-something or other - see through - that's the door. There's a little round hole in one side of one solid wall, and it leads to a nice cozy skinny room, lined with a blanket, that's a bit more hidden and darker than the other. The bigger room has a kitty cozy in it, a litter box, and some water, on top of a towel.
I can see other kitties through the door, but they don't bother me. I've just been chillin', relaxing after my surgery (I got neutered). There's an abscess on my back that will heal up soon, they're making me take antibiotics to make it better. My fleas are all gone, and it's alot easier to relax without those things all over me. I'm trying to get used to the idea that I'm always going to have food now. Before, I never knew when or if I'd eat my next meal.
Things are ok here, but I can't wait to find a forever home. One to love me and scratch my head all the time...
