Arrival Story: Callie adopted us while we were wintering in AZ in 1996. She was a stray, pregnant and half starved. She had her kittens under a neighbors mobile home, coming over several times a day to eat off our porch the food we put out for her. When the kittens were 5 weeks old, she brought them over and put them thru the open back door and under the bed. When I kneeled down to see them, she laid next to me and put her paw on my hand. I looked up at my husband and said, oh look at her. He said "alright she can stay!" So we kept her and the male tabby kitten, finding homes for the other two babies.
We named her kitten Boo and for the next 5 years they traveled back and forth with us from Oregon in the summer to Arizona in the winters. In the fall of 1997, Callie was shot with a pellet gun and she still carries the pellets - one next to her thigh bone on left side and one up toward her ribs on left side. Vet said as long as she could still jump and climb, he wouldn't operate. She learned to jump with her disability, but has never been able to jump as high as she should be able to. We moved back permanently to Oregon in 2002 and Callie is a very happy little girl now. She is allowed outside during the day time but both of them have to come in at night. It took her a while to adjust to this - she'd look at us and say - hey, I know how to take care of myself!
Bio: Callie is kind of an unnatural mother. When Boo was 4 months old, she kicked him aside as if to say, here, he's yours, I don't want him any more. And she doesn't allow him to lay to close to her nor sleep with her. She hisses and growls if he comes to eat while she is eating and slaps at him - he just cowers and accepts it!
Well, you know, I'm really not sure how I got here, but it is such a nice place and so many of my friends and family are here! Grandma is holding me now and giving me so much love and Pete, Tiger, Frosty, Basha, Munches, Gidget, Tanky, Smokey and Boos' Molly too - they are all here loving me & helping me adjust. It's really pretty and no one is sad or hungry and hunting is a game where no one is hurt! So I hunt as much as I want and no little meeseys or rabbits get eaten! I miss my earth family very much, but want them to know I'm fine and waiting for them all to come here too. Love you all so much, your Callie Girl P.S. Hey mom, I really am your Angel Girl now!!!
Can u believe it, it is August already. The summer is half way over! Mom and Dad are just now catching up with everything. Also my human nephew was here for a week so me 'n Boo had to tolerate that. But i did have fun with him chasin' this little yellow fish on the line of his toy fishing pole. Only trouble is, he goes on and on, so when i got tired, i just flopped down and wouldn't chase it! Still he was good and i even slept with him the last two nights! Good Girl Callie! Well, time's awastin' and i must get back to hunting. Gettin' kind of slim around here as me 'n Boo has gotten so many of the critters! Hope ya all havin' a great August - we are! Oh yeh, Mom says we are goin' huntin' again this year, hopefully to the same spot we were in last year as me 'n Boo liked it so much. Later, love, Cal
Well, been a spell since I wrote in my diary. I have to tell you I've been one busy little girl!! Mom was gone last weekend and boy me and Boo got to Dad - big time!!!
Boo caught a young rabbit, not a baby, and somehow he managed to get it and himself thru our little cat door!!! Dad was out in the shop for a couple hours and when he came in he thought a tornado had struck! Well, you see it was like this. Boo let the rabbit lose and we both chased it, caught at it, lost it, until finally we stopped it. Of course there was rabbit hair all over! Sorry for anyone with rabbits - you know we can't help it we are cats!! Anyway by the time it was all over, there were parts of it strung from back door up the hall and into living room. Oh wow, when he came in you should have heard the boom! Me and Boo just stayed outside while he cleaned it up! So lately i've been bringing my catches in and giving a yowl, then just drop them at Dad's feet! No fuss, no mess! Good girl!! He laughs and picks the varmits up and puts them on the burn pile and the crows come get them! I grew up hunting for survival in Arizona and if you think that's not a tough life, think again!! Hunting for me is like my life!!! Mom's grandson-in-law Josh knows what I mean - it is his life too! MOL!!!! Well, catch ya later - it's burnin' daylight out there so I'd best get back to hunting!!! Love to all my fans, Callie Girl
