Tomorrow is December 5, 2008, which means that at 9:35 a.m. it will be two years since I came here to Rainbow Bridge. Of course I am Mommy's bestest guardian angel now, but she still gets sad that we can't see each other every day. We always feel each other's love though.
I am sending my most beautiful angel sparkles to my Mommy because I know that my Bridge Day is hard for her. She scheduled the day off from work so she can be home. She did that last year too, and she says that she will never work on a December 5 again, because nothing is more important than honoring her baby girl. (That's me). :D
I love you Mommy!
trilly purrrrrrrrs from your eternity daughter ~

I thought I would tell a little story to you about how I helped Mommy feel better on my year and a half Bridge Day.
Yesterday was June 5, which means it has been a year and a half since I came here to Rainbow Bridge. Mommy was so verily sad. I mean, she always is on the fifth of each month now, but this time, she was reallyreally sad.
So I arranged for her to get a present from me today.
Mommy posts on the local Freecycle.org site. She has given away a lot of stuff on there, but only gotten one thing for herself in almost a year. So today, I did some angel magic...
When I was on earth with Mommy, I had my dry food in a plastic Tony the Tiger bowl that Mommy got from Giant Food. Now she eats out of it herself and it always makes her sparkly to think about me.
Today, a lady was inspired to offer a vintage Tony the Tiger set from Kellogg. It has a medium sized plate, a bowl, and a teacup. I made sure Mommy was inspired to check Freecycle not long after she posted it, and then the lady picked Mommy to get the set! ;) :D
So now the day after a day when Mommy was so sad, she has a present from her angel kitty. I thought I would share this with everykitty so that the Mommies who have Bridge kitties know that we work in all kinds of ways to tell you we still love you extremely verily!

Hi everykitty,
I haven't had a lot of time to update my Star Friend lately, what with sparkling and purrrrrrring for friends in need. First my friend Angel Pie Joe Thunderbear got out of his house and went missing, and this last week, I was worrying about my special friend Darwin's hamster sister Lucy, and now my good friend Belle is missing!!
Also, my mommy's work friend Linda had to help a doggy over the Bridge, and her outside orange farm kitty, OC, went missing. So much to worry about and help with!
I helped Lucy over the Bridge, and there's been a lot of new kitty angels that I need to welcome. I keep forgetting to change my Star Friend ~ its not that I don't love my friends, it's just that I seem to be so needed to help kitties in urgent need.
I'll pick it up again when things calm down again. Mommy has been very fatigued lately with her fibromyalgia, so that doesn't help when she doesn't have as much time to type for me.
In the meantime, can everykitty please help purr that Belle's Mommy finds her? My mommy and I are ever so totally and completely worried and fretting!!
Update: Belle was found! She crawled into a dresser in a spare bedroom and jumped down into a lower drawer. When she wasn't in the open drawer, her Daddy closed it, but they didn't know that she could get down in there like she did. She got found at 2:22 a.m., which everykitty knows is wishtime! When all the numbers are the same, it's always magical, and it sure was for Belle! She is currently being royally spoiled. :D
Also, OC came home after 2 1/2 weeks away. He is half his weight and his is limping on one of his paws, but Linda is taking care of him. She's trying to get him to stay inside but he howls because he likes being an outdoor farm kitty. So she's doing the best she can for her orangie baby boy. :D

I've been tagged by my good friend Tyson (678552)!
Here are the rules of the game!
Each player starts with 7 random facts about themselves. Cats who are tagged need to write the 7 rules in their Diary & 7 pawsome facts about themselves. Then choose 7 cats to tag and list their names. Don't forget to purr them a pawmail telling them that they've been tagged and to read your Diary or send them a fun Rosette announcing they've been Tagged!
Here are 7 sparkly facts about me:
1. I love my Mommy bestest in all of forever. She and I have a veryvery special bond.
2. I got a bunch of treats and catnip once when I won the cutest pet contest at my Daddy's former workplace. I won a gift certificate and Mommy spent it on my very own Cosmic Catnip, some toys, and some treats.
3. I once ate a lot of lasagna when my Auntie and her friends left it alone on the kitchen counter. I sat in the pan and went to town! It was yummy! I was a mess. Gamma yelled. Mommy still talks about it and laughs at how mischievious I am.
4. I can do whatever I want to do and not get yelled at by Mommy ~ assuming it's not something unsafe like jumping on top of the oven. I was veryvery spoiled that way. Mommy has a ton of photos of me being "bad" in most people's terms, but she never minded.
5. My catnip blanket is underneath Mommy's meditation mat now because I always loved to sit next to her and purr whenever she meditated or did yoga.
6. I have a veryVERY loud meow! When I was on earth, I adored caterwauling in the middle of the night, which everyone said was for no apparent reason, but I always had a good reason. Like missing Mommy. Or wanting a treat. Or because the moon was out. Or because I was bored. Or like that. Now it comes in handy, because Mommy can hear me meow every once in a while when I want to actually say hello by meowing.
7. One of my veryvery dearest friends on Catster is actually a doggy on Dogster. Her name is Poochie Puppy Kisses, and we play together a lot here at the Bridge.
Those are my facts! Now, it's my turn to tag!
1. Poochie Puppy Kisses (Dogster 399283)
2. Mr. Kitty my beloved furmate (350238)
3. Belle (412982)
4. Gremlin (87233)
5. Fiona (690980)
6. Purrsley (669073)
7. Dulci (630613)

Okay, well, I got busy again and forgot to change my Star Friend last week. Garret's a good kitty and all, but he's not selfish so he says it's time for a new Star Friend here. I can't help it ~ angels get busy with stuff like playing and welcoming new angels and visiting our mommies, and lately purrrrrrrrring like crazy for my dear friend Mommy Pat, because she has been in the hospital feeling poorly.
So ~ this week's Star Friend is MadCat Nikki (461278)!
The first thing that brought Nikki and me together is how devoted we both are to our mommies. But then when I read her page, I learned all kinds of wonderful things! Like, how Nikki rides in her RV and travels. She adores her RV! She has a leash and goes exploring all kinds of places on it. My mommy always says that she would go all goo-goo and make a huge fuss if she ever met Nikki on her leash on the street! (Hey Nikki, tell your mommy to drive your RV to Southern Alberta!) :D
Nikki loves to be sung to just like me ~ and her mommy puts her name in all the songs like mine does. That is just so fantabulous!!
Read the story about how Nikki got her name. It's edge-of-your-seat special!
One more thing, 'cause I don't want to tell you every last thing about Nikki here and deprive you of the joy of going to her page ~ her music is the Romantics' What I Like About You. Well, what I like about Nikki is everything! :D

There was a thread on my Happy Kitties group about what your mommy and daddy do to make you happy. I got all sparkly writing mine so I'm putting it here too ~
Mommy sings songs to me, and she filled up my catnip blankie with fresh nip, and she put some on a toy for me to roll in. She picked me up all the time and danced with me and carried me around like a toddler with my paws wrapped around her neck while I rode over her left hip. She also catered to my whims and gave me a different Fancy Feast if I turned up my nose at the first one, so that made me happy! (I know that one is food related, but still).
Also she made sure I was never scared, even at the v-e-t when I had to come to the Bridge and she was so veryvery sad, she made sure that she comforted me most of all and sang me over the Bridge because she loves me that much. She would come out and sleep with me on the family room couch too if I got scared at night and I needed her and I wanted to sleep in there.
The thing I always loved best was when she cuddled up and napped with me when it was raining out. There were several times in my earth life when Mommy didn't work for whatever reason, or didn't work outside the home. I loved spending so much time with her!
(this part was not on the thread) Even though I am at the Bridge now, she still sings to me and we talk to each other through telepathy, and we love each other eternally. :D

Oopsie! I got busy playing at the Bridge and forgot to change my Star Friend last weekend! I didn't want to cheat a kitty out of time, since I remembered all the way on Tuesday, so I waited 'til today!
Today I am picking someone who has been wanting to be my Star Friend for ages. He is my brother Garret (515081).
Garret came to live with my Mommy and Daddy in the February after I came to the Bridge. Mommy had been missing holding me, so she took Daddy to PAW Society so she could snuggle someone for a few minutes. Well, she snuggled everykitty there and then Garret was the only one left she didn't snuggle yet. He was sleeping in his kitty tree.
Mommy took him out anyway and he immediately wanted to go to Daddy. When she handed him over, Garret gave Daddy lick-kisses on the lips and Daddy melted. He reallyreally wanted Garret. Mommy was not at all ready for a kitty but clearly Daddy and Garret wanted to be together. They went back the next day and adopted him. It was not at all easy, but now Mommy and Garret are buddies. She calls him her dawg since he follows her around everywhere like a doggie. :)
Garret doesn't have a happy beginning story. Somebody mean dumped him near Taber, Alberta, when it was cold out in winter no less. One day, he wandered into a petrol station office very happy to be inside. They called PAW, a local no-kill kitty rescue, and Garret was there for five weeks or so before Daddy found him and brought him to his forever home. Garret still gets scared of the dark because of having to live outside, so he sleeps with a light on.
Garret is a very loving kitty who adores attention, mice, and treats....and also grooming Daddy. He LOVES to do that! He is a total Daddy's boy. Mommy taught him how to stand up on his back paws for treats, and she also plays two of his favorite games with him.
One is a very silly version of football. She takes his puff ball (or mouse) and gets down calling out crazy numbers like... 16! 38,591! 18,277,006! 2! HIKE! And Garret happily rushes after the ball trying to catch it. The other game is a new addition called PEEKABOO. To play, Garret sits on one of the steps of his tree and peers around the corner at Mommy hiding on the other side of the bedroom door. They go back and forth ducking behind the corner and then go PEEKABOO! But Garret doesn't play for long because he gets excited and comes rushing over to where Mommy is for hugs. *teehee*
Garret is a veryvery happy kitty now. Mommy and Daddy have the apartment configured for optimal climbing conditions, which is his veryvery favorite thing to do. He gets treats, Fancy Feast, lots of playing with Mommy, and endless fussing over by Daddy. He even loves his pet-sitter, Wendy. She comes from Paws on the Run to take care of him when Mommy and Daddy are away.
Check out Garret's page if you wanna meet a cool kitty! :D

Hmmmm....who should I highlight this week as my Star Friend???
I think it shall be....what, Mommy? Well, I was gonna pick him anyway! Fine!
This week's Star Friend is Bartholomew (229095). He's changed his primary photo to have his tummy showing, and Mommy just looooooves that, so she made sure I saw it. Silly Mommy. :D
Bartholomew rocks. He is a rescue kitty who has a veryvery special talent for cheering up people when they feel blue. I know firsthand that this is true, 'cause his page has done it for my Mommy!
One really cute thing about Bartholomew is how much he loves his stroller. He REALLYREALLY does! He also loves drinking water from the faucet, and like so many of us, catnip. He goes wild for catnip.
Bartholomew scared us not that long ago when he slipped outside of his house. His mommy found him before anything bad happened, but all us kitties were so worried when we heard about it! We don't know what we'd do without Bartholomew around!
Check out Bartholomew's page if you want to meet a veryvery charming and cute kitty. He's got oodles of purrrrsonality! :D

Fish! Oh Fish!!! Come out and play with me! :D
My Star Friend for this week is a veryvery pretty kitty named Fish (509164). She is ever so much fun!
Fish lives in Virginia, not far from where I used to live with Mommy before we immigrated to Canada. She has a little sister named Bria who loves to pounce on her, but Fish gets her revenge in there too. *teehee*
Hmmm...what is my favorite thing about Fish? It's kinda a tie. I love that she is so devoted to her Mommy and likes to sleep right next to her, but I also giggle every time I read the part about how she's stone deaf if she wants to ignore you but hears the rustle of her treat bag from the basement. Me too!
Fish loves sunbeams and her loyal furmate, Poe, and....well, go read about her too! You will have a happy few minutes visiting Fish's page! Her photos are also super adorable, so you will be guaranteed to smile. :D

This week, I am shining the friend star on a veryvery beautiful girl named Minnie (472166). You read about Mickey (472362) here before....he and Minnie lived together on earth and had three stunning kittens!
When you go to Minnie's page, you immediately feel all happy seeing such a magnicent tortie girl! Her photos are so wonderful!
She is playful and cuddly, especially with her mommy, and she loves to nap! Minnie's favorite treat is boiled chicken...I bet she got some a lot!
Minnie and Mickey and I play together a lot here at the Bridge. We are very devoted friends. I hope you take a moment to go to Minnie's page to meet her. She's definitely a star! :D

I picked a real character to be this week's highlighted friend....my good friend Rowdy Kitty (665129)!
Rowdy is a Bridge kitty like me, and he has a mommy who adores him, like me. He is a rambunctious orange kitty, so veryvery smart, who loves to play with mice.
Rowdy definitely kept his mommy on her toes! He could get into mischief so easy! He just loves to run around and feel happy, that's all. Rowdy was a great traveler on earth, and he's even more so now that he has his very own wings! He loves to drop in and give his mommy a smooch every now and again. :)
Check out Rowdy's page ~ he's a reallyreally fun kitty to know! :)

I must apologize for being a bit late with my Star Friend this week. Mommy has been sick and not as able to type for me, but she's here now.
This week, I have a special choice. I am picking my cherished friend Alley (488554) to be my Star Friend, in honor of her one year Bridge Day that happened yesterday.
Alley is a beautiful black kitty who loves her mama, catnip, Whiskas, and like all of us cats, naps! She came here to the Bridge last December 9 and her Mommy misses her verily.
In remembrance of Alley's first Rainbow Bridge Day, I am gathering many angel kitties to help her send her Mama special love beams. We are adding our sparkles so Alley's love surrounds her Mama who adores her. Alley loves you that much too!
Go visit Alley's page and see how magnificent she is! :)

Mickey's Mommy here, borrowing my Baby's diary ~
Today is Miss Mickey's one year Bridge Day. I did not go to work today because I just felt like I wanted to stay inside and rest and let my emotions come as they will.
A few minutes ago, Mickey's Daddy came into the kitchen and said, "I don't want to alarm you..."
So I got a bit freaked and turned around. He had a tiny clump of Mickey's fur in his hand. It was on the bed.
Not only did we not own that bed or any of the linens on it when Mickey was on earth with us, but I've scoured our furniture so many times looking for fur remnants. We've also moved to a different apartment. There is just nowhere that fur could have come from, other than Mickey visiting and leaving it for me.
I am so touched and grateful for her love!

You know, it's so hard to pick just one friend to highlight each week. All of my friends are so veryvery special!!
This time, I am going to tell about my good friend Ulysses (515879). I seem to be on a roll picking cuddly kitties as my star friend, 'cause Ulysses loves to snuggle!
Like me, Ulysses moved a lot when he was on earth. It was love at first sight when he first came to his forever home, and then home changed a few times. But you know, as long as you're all together, it's good!
Ulysses likes to play with feathers, and eat tuna, and did I mention, cuddle? Brushing...well, not so much, but who among us long haired kitties really likes that? Not me!
My dear friend came to the Bridge after eleven and a half years with his family. They still miss him so veryvery muchly like my family misses me, but I'm sure they also feel the love beams he sends to them.
Go visit Ulysses' page and see how nice he is!!

The kitty I chose as this week's Star Friend is another snuggler. His name is Bentley (93667) and he is a big cuddler who adores his mommy. :D
Bentley is a handsome orange kitty with a cute little bent tail. He picked his mommy out purrsonally ~ his brothers were hiding away, but Bentley knew his mommy when he saw her, so he grabbed at her until she took him home.
Some cool things about Bentley are how he talks, he plays with his rubber snakes (EEK!), and how happy he looks in his photos. Of course, my mommy loves the photo of his stummy showing, 'cause she loves to kiss fluffy kitty tummies. :D
Check out Bentley for yourself! He's definitely a good friend! :D
A very special edit: Bentley sent me the link to his Webshots page! There's even more great photos there! :D http://pets.webshots.com/album/23571163JHXVRNCoYb

I got a paw mail from my friend Belle today ~ here is what it said ~
Hi Furfriend!
You've been picked to play a fun game of tag...please go to my page & read my diary entry to get your instructions! Have fun & wishing you and your guardians a wonderful holiday!
The rules of this holiday game are quite simple. When you are tagged, pen a diary entry regarding what you are thankful for, then send a Rosette or Pmail to 5 cats, telling them they have been tagged. They then do the same, and usually they 'mail you back to tell you they've completed the task. So here goes....
1. I am ever so verily thankful for my Mommy who is my soulmate and loves me so muchly and who gives kisses and sings to me every day even after I became a Bridgekitty.
2. I am thankful for vanilla ice cream, which is essentially most yummy to share with Mommy from the same spoon.
3. I am thankful for each person who rescues a kitty on earth and gives them forever homes and love.
4. I am veryvery thankful for all my wonderful Catster friends who are so fun to play with! 'Specially my boyfriend Mr. Kitty who is so handsome and charming.
5. I am verily thankful for my Daddy who adopted me, and my Gamma, Auntie, and Poppy who are my people family.
Oops! I almost forgot to tell which five kitties that I am tagging!
I tag
1. Garret
2. Bartholomew
3. Mr. Kitty
4. Bixit Boseph
5. Mia

This week's Star Friend has a wonderful story ~ he found his forever home right here on Catster! I met him on the Adoption and Happy Endings forum.
This awesome kitty is named Scruffy (511724). He is 18 pounds of totally loving kitty! Scruffy had to be given up by his first family because they got called overseas, so he had two stints at Petsmart with a great foster mommy before he found his forever home with Nefret.
One of the things that Scruffy loves to do is play in the bathtub (without water in it). Mommy laughed and laughed when Scruffy first came to his new home and his Mummy talked about how much racket an 18 pound cat in the tub makes. He was apparently quite happy to jump around in there and everybody knew it!
Scruffy is a fantastic giver of great big giant hugs, and he loves to eat people food. You can read in his diary about how he stole a pepperoni once! Scruffy is just an all around charismatic kitty ~ check out his page and you can see what a happy cat he is!

Time for a new Star Friend! This week, I am picking a kitty with such a sweet story. His name is Giorgio (317554) and he lives with his loving Mommy in Macedonia!
Giorgio has a lot of neat photos on his page, but my veryvery favorite is the one of him as a tiny kitten kissing his mommy on the lips. He even has his little paw touching her. My mommy melts every time she sees that photo. She has talked to Giorgio's mommy, and she shared some of her wedding photos with Giorgio in them, just like I was in my mommy's!
You can see Giorgio with his birthday cake, and Giorgio making circle paws, and yeah....go check out his page! His mommy saved him from when he was only three days old and she loves him so veryvery muchly. :D

Alrightee then...it's Saturday so it's time for my new Star Friend! This week, I am choosing a veryvery special kitty who is great in so many ways. *drum roll* This week's Star Friend is....Snow (271069)!
The first thing I love about Snow is how he met his Momma. You can read the whole story on his page, but she just got to take him from the shelter 'cause the person there said that he didn't get along with anybody. Well, he gets along with everybody now! Obviously Snow and his Momma were meant to be, and when she came in there and met him, it was the exact right time for him to be rescued. :D
Snow is also a hockey fan like me. He cheers for the Detroit Red Wings. He is devoted to his furmate Samantha Louise (another of my special friends who will get a turn to be Star Friend), and he skids through the kitchen on the floor. That always sounds fun to me!
My Mommy loves that Snow is a kneader. She calls that making biscuits and she is a sucker for kitties who do that. :)
Go to Snow's page and check him out! Among other interesting things, you'll learn about how he's a lizard hunter. :D

This week's Star Friend is one of the earliest friends I made on Catster. His name is Bowie (367448), and he is ever so cute! I play with him here at the Bridge. :D
The first thing you HAVE to notice about Bowie is how absolutely adorable he is being all black with his cute little pink tongue poking out! I mean, Mommy squealed and squealed with joy the first time she saw his picture and she pretty much does every time we visit Bowie's page. (Mommy is incorrigible). *teehee*
Bowie had a special talent on earth ~ he fetched toys even though he was blind starting when he was eleven! How amazing is that? Plus, he loved lots and lots of attention and loving, which he still does here. He still loves to get toys too, only now he can see perfectly as an angel kitty.
Bowie is so veryvery playful and fun to be around! You can always count on him if you want to have a happy time. Check out Bowie's page and bask in his specialness! :D

My mommy's Poppy passed about 25 minutes ago. I am with him here on the other side to greet him again and shower him with angel love. He is a gentle soul and loved by some very special people, some of whom are right here too and so very happy to see him.
We love you ever so much Poppy, forever and ever, and I am sending angel sparkles to Mommy, Gamma, and Auntie Kristen who need them right now.

My new star friend is a beautiful angel with a bittersweet story of love. Her name is Izzy (491390).
Izzy was rescued by a special lady named Pat in New York. Somebody mean took Izzy and her brother and abandoned them outside. *warning hummmmmhissssssssssss* Then they found an abandoned bus, so they lived in that for a while. When they got hungry, they found Pat and she fed them. Pat was able to trap Izzy's brother, but not her right away. She didn't know that Izzy was there at first. But then she finally enticed her with some roasted chicken, and when she got rescued, Pat saw she was having kittens. Izzy had her own place inside where it was nice and warm with lots of food and love, even though she was scared.
Izzy had her beautiful kittens, and they all got good homes, but Izzy herself got veryvery sick and had to come to the Bridge way too early. Boy, did my Mommy cry and cry when that happened. I was right there to greet Izzy, and now we are veryvery good friends even though we already were before, we're more now! Izzy had so much hard stuff in her short time on earth, but she also had an angel on earth who saved her and her kittens, plus the legacy of her babies. Izzy and I watch over them from the Bridge ~ such cuties!
Another wonderful thing is that Izzy and her furmate Ren are ever so devoted to one another. Ren is still an earth kitty, but that doesn't worry either one of them. Check out the new primary photo on Izzy's page with the two of them together.
You can read Izzy's whole story on her page by clicking on the badge on mine. She has some adorable photos on there, and also a diary entry about being an invisible kitty that really touches the heart deeply. Mommy goes to Izzy's page regularly. She can't wait to meet Izzy someday in some more tomorrows.
Izzy will actually be my star friend for two weeks, since Mommy is going to be away in Virginia next weekend visiting Poppy. We were trying to decide on the right kitty who would be a great choice for the next two weeks, and we were unanimous that Izzy is it. :D

This week, I am picking a veryvery sweet boy named Mr. Spot (265096) as my Star Friend. Mr. Spot is beyond precious and wonderful!
The first thing ~ use the badge link on my page and go look at Mr. Spot's primary photo. I know you can see it on the badge, but it's even cuter in a big size! Now, don't you just want to be his friend?! He looks ever so nice! You can tell he's an awesome cat just from that. :D
Another thing that is really great about Mr. Spot is that he has his very own barn! He is the king of that place! My mommy grew up with a lot of barn kitties like Mr. Spot, so she is especially enamored with how he rules his barn. *teehee* She also has....well, a soft spot, sorry for the pun...for orange kitties, so she adores going to Mr. Spot's page for a visit. :)
Mr. Spot has a HUGE family of special kitties. You can meet them too from the links on his page. They are all great friends of mine too, and will all have a turn as my Star Friend, but this week, the starbeam is on Mr. Spot! Go meet him! You will be ever so happy you did!! :D

True Colors
Cyndi Lauper
You with the sad eyes
Don't be discouraged
Oh i realize
It's hard to take courage
In a world full of people
You can lose sight of it all
And the darkness inside you
Can make you feel so small
But i see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why i love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow
Show me a smile then,
Don't be unhappy, can't remember
When i last saw you laughing
If this world makes you crazy
And you've taken all you can bear
You call me up
Because you know i'll be there
And i'll see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why i love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow

My baby girl, I am missing you so verily today at the same time as I am celebrating our love. You are my special and beautiful soul daughter. Thank you for going to give Poppy love when he really needs it this week after his diagnosis. Mommy will look for you in my dreams this weekend for Canadian Thanksgiving. I could not be more thankful for our eternal bond and your magnificence in my journey.

I'm going to my Persian and Himmy group for this week's Star Friend again, because I've missed my special friend Ozzie (264062) lately, and he had time to come up and say hello today! YAY!
The absolute coolest thing about Ozzie is how much he loves water. He adores it! His mommy bought him a fountain recently, but he made a gihusigannic mess, so last I heard he was having a time-out from it. I hope he gets it back veryvery soon! (Ozzie, if it helps, I will fly down and make the big "please-let-me-get-what-I-want eyes next to you for added persuasion). :D
Ozzie is also great for how devoted he is to his furmate, Praline. You know how much I love that kind of sparkliness. ;)
If that isn't awesome enough, Ozzie has a stroller that he loves too, and he's a snugglebutt who likes his Mommy to hold him like a baby! When you get a second, check out Ozzie's page with all the super-duper-adorable photos. He's also got some great videos on there...including one where he gets vacuumed and likes it! WHOA!

This week's Star Friend is a sweet boy from my Persian and Himalayans group ~ his name is Whael (203037). Whael has two brothers on Catster too, who are both equally wonderful, but Whael is the shy boy, so I thought that I would pick him first of the three for his Star Friend week. (You other two will get your turns too)!
Whael is a beautiful Flame Point who has a heart of gold. He is generous, caring to his friends, and ever devoted to his lovely furmate, Piglet. You can see her photo on his page too.
Whael loves Piglet, his treats, his crinkly ball toy, his kitty tree....but the best part is how fun he is at our parties! He may be shy, but a party isn't the same without him there. He's just that special! Check out his page and see for yourself! :)

This week, I have another angel kitty as my star friend. Her name is Spike (174128) and she is ever so wonderful!!
First of all, just look at how adorable she is. Second, she is super duper adventurous and fun! We explore the Bridge together a lot, and she always manages to find something to get into! (Especially the ice cream fountains). :D
One of the best things about Spike and her mommy is that they communicate with each other just like me and my Mommy do. They understand each other on the heart level, which is ever so special and touching and meaningful. If that isn't enough, Spike's Mommy sings to her too and makes her name be in the songs like mine does! Read her diary from when we played the tag game...there also a very suspenseful and miraculous story there! :D

With Mommy and Daddy's moving last weekend, she did not get a chance to type about my new star friend. We're back on track now though!
This week, I pick another special angel kitty named Mickey (472362). Like with Toni, I don't remember how Mickey and I first met, it just seems like we've known each other forever!
I think it's cool how Mickey is the black Persian kitty that I was originally intended to be before Mommy got her first glimpse of me. Look at his profile picture and how adorable he looks with his sockie toy!!
Mickey's profile says that he is trained to give kisses on demand. Mommy squealed out loud the first time she read that! What an awesome thing with such a cutie of a kitty! And what a lucky mama Mickey has!
Mickey is a cuddly lover kitty, which is a veryvery good thing because of how stunningly handsome he is. Mommy and I love going to his page and seeing how loved he is on earth and at the Bridge. He got his own birthday parties and presents, and everything! My mommy and I understand this kind of special bond very well so we are forever touched by knowing Mickey and his mama. Mommy also loves how the cats are allowed on the table to eat. So was I. :D
Check out Mickey's page and meet a great new friend! :D

It's Saturday, and I'd better have Mommy type about my latest Star Friend before she gets too busy. She and Daddy move on Thursday, so they have lots to do over the weekend.
I have such a beauty to share with you this week. Her name is Toni (195803). I don't even remember how I met Toni. It just feels like she's been my friend forever. :)
Toni is a very generous kitty. She and I exchange rosettes every month, and I love going to her page so I can see her photos again. I know that Catster lets us link directly to the other kittie's giftie page now, but I always go to the page 'cause I like to see the whole thing.
Tonkinese kitties are beautiful anyway, but Princess Toni is a real stunner. She likes to play and cuddle, which is a good thing because I don't think anybody could not want to cuddle her when they met her. It's no wonder she's spoiled. *teehee*
My brother Garret and Toni would get along great, since they both do that terrier run thing! They'd just have to have a cat tree big enough for both of them! Read Toni's diary for a story about her running and leaping... ;)
One thing I think is really special about Toni is how she follows her Mom around the house. I did that too! And now that I'm an angel, I've popped up quickly in other places too just 'cause I miss her being right there all the time.

Daddy is listening to a rotation of music on his computer right now. Van Halen's "I Can't Stop Loving You" just came up, and he changed the words to be "I Can't Stop Loving Shmoo."
I can't stop loving Shmoo
No matter what I do
You know my heart is true
I can't stop loving Shmoo
*teehee* ! Mommy trained him well. She's currently getting all giddily happy that he made that up for me. :D

This week, I am going to do something a little different...I'm picking a doggy as my Star Friend to highlight!
He's a veryvery good boy. His name is Wrigley, better known as the Roo Dog (Dogster 272787). He lives with my special kitty friend Wicca and the new puppy in the house, Dexter. Recently Wicca was feeling sick and had to be at the V-E-T for a few days. Roo Dog was ever so wonderful posting updates for us!
Roo lives in the UK in a magnificent thatched roof magic cottage. He has been putting up with days and days of rain and bad weather, so I thought that between that and him being such a good boy about Wicca, Roo should be my Star Friend this week! Lotsa sausage for you, cutie!
Check out his page on Dogster. I can post his badge photo here, but unfortunately the links between Catster and Dogster don't work properly. I especially love Roo's Yahoo photo. He looks ever so sparkly in that one! There is a precious close-up photo on his page too. That one makes my Mommy squeal out loud every time she sees it. :D

I get so sparkly sometimes that I forget what day it is, and so I forget to change my Star Friend. *teehee* Angels don't have the same kind of time as when we were on earth. I guess I should just forget the "of the Week" part and just change my Star Friend. For this week, I will leave it alone and just try to remember when it's Saturday again!
Mommy has had less time to type for me too, because she and Daddy are moving to a nice new apartment. They have been spending lots of time doing heavy cleaning in the place they're in now. Mommy has fibromyalgia and so she has been getting so veryvery tired and sore. Valuable time she'd rather be spending on Catster is spent washing walls and scrubbing baseboards and stuff, and then she hurts so muchly and so she needs to sleep. Mommy has a full time job too and right now there's not enough time in the day!
They move no later than August 31 ~ hopefully sooner ~ and they're down to just needing to scrub the kitchen and bathroom. Mommy keeps making these groaning noises 'cause she doesn't want to do it. Daddy doesn't either. So far he's been cleaning the top half of the rooms and she does the bottom. Since he's 6'8" he doesn't need a ladder, and Mommy is a smurfy 5'5" so she likes doing the lower part. She gets the floor though, so Daddy's done some extra stuff to keep it even.
I'll be flying in to the new apartment since I'd never ever leave my Mommy behind. I can go wherever she does now, and sometimes I do! I have my important angel work greeting older homeless kitties here at the Bridge who don't have a Mommy or somebody to love them like I do...but I also have to visit my Mommy since we miss each other so veryvery muchly.
That's the report for now! Hmmmm...who should be my next Star Friend? It's so hard to pick, even though everykitty will get a turn eventually! Just 'cause one got picked first, doesn't mean the others aren't all stars! I just love showing off my friends' badges and typing sparkly things about them. :D

Time to pick a new Star Friend for this week! I thought it was so veryvery thoughtful of Mia to post her stummy up photo while I still had her badge there. :D
This week, I choose my good and sweet friend, Bear (295340). Bear is ever so wonderful and loved to cuddle with her Mommy on earth. She still does send cuddles in her spirit form, I know it. She visits like I do with my Mommy. :)
Bear has a truly amazing arrival story ~ you should go read it on her page! The people said that her Mommy would never want her, but she sure did, and they were meant to be together. Bear saved her Mommy's life. They are forever soul mates, and I love knowing that Bear shares the same kind of love that I do with my Mommy. That is so veryvery special.
Bear is a true beauty and a magnificent angel. Visit her page and you'll see!
Here is a list of my previous Star Friends, in case you missed any!

I have a veryvery pretty girl to highlight as my Star Friend of the Week...her name is Mia (411350)!
Mia is such a sweetheart ~ she's generous, kind, devoted, and loves her furmate Hantu so muchly! I love being friends with Mia. Her posts in our Persian and Himalayan group always make me smile, and then she likes to surprise kitties with rosettes too. She's adorable in her stroller ~ check out her videos!
I'm not the only one who recognizes how special Mia is. She's about to be a bridesmaid in Unthar and Wicca's wedding too. You just know she'll be amazingly stunning. I still say the Longaberger people are totally missing out not putting Mia in their catalog!
Her song on her page is ever so appropriate ~ Beautiful.
I love you, Mia, enjoy your week as my Star Friend! :)

Firstly, let me say that I did an oopsie last week and forgot to change my star friend until Tuesday...and then I didn't want the new star friend to get cheated of days, so I kept Ren there instead. He's a good kitty!
This week, I would like to choose my veryvery adorable friend Bixit (362257). I can say so many nice things about Mr. Bixit Boseph...and his mommy is super nice too!
Bixit was originally a rescue kitty. His mommy and daddy insisted that they weren't going to get a cat, but then Bixit took about 2.8 seconds to change all that! Bixit is a wonderful loving boy. He gives lots of headbonks and ticklings with his whiskers, and he even tucks in his mommy and daddy! He's at the Bridge with me now, but I know he still tucks them in. :)
Bixit is ever so much fun to know. You can just look at his pictures and see what a character he is. Mommy has two favorites on his page. One is the one dated 15/10/04 which is the second photo there. He looks so mischevious and smoochable in that one! The other is the sweet photo of Bixit with his mommy.
Another awesome thing is that Bixit's mommy and daddy have his pawprint tattooed on their backs, just like my mommy has mine over her heart! His daddy even added wings to his.
I'm ever so veryvery happy that I met Bixit. He's so loving and caring and he still loves to pounce around and playful too.
Here's the list of past Star Friends if you want to check them out too!

I am a wee little bit late this week, as Mommy was returning from her vacation and we did not get time to update my Star Friend. We will do it on Sundays from now on, so Ren doesn't get cheated out of Star Friend time. :)
This week, I pick my special friend, Ren (388646). He is not only an adorable momma's boy, but he's ever so devoted to his angel furmate, Izzy. When she came unexpectedly to the Bridge, she told him that she would not hold him back if he wanted a new furmate, but Ren is true to his love. That is so super-sparkly!
I still cannot believe that his mommy got him when he was given away at a garage sale! Just look at his last photo on his first page alone! He looks like a little lion!
Ren is a super-duper cutie, that's for sure. He doesn't live *that* far away from Mommy, and every time she looks at his page, she says that she wants to go there and give him lots of smoocheroos. *teehee*

It's Saturday, so it's time for my new Star Friend of the Week! Today, I am celebrating another friend of mine named Sasha ~ this is Sasha Elizabeth (79469)!
There's just so many veryvery good things I can say about Sasha. She's ever so sweet! She's caring about all of her friends, she has GREAT cattitude, and she's stunning! I mean, just look at her! That beauty that you see outside goes all the way through to her soul, 'cause she's just as beautiful inside too. I tell her secrets and giggle with her and I always make sure that when I get my next batch of 25 rosettes, that I send Sasha one. I say that hers is non-negotiable!
Oh yeah, and she's simply adorable with her WAHing. I always giggle when I see that on a post.
If you want to see my previous Star Friends, here's the list so far:

This week, I am picking my veryvery beautiful friend, Sasha-Ama (265672), to be my Star Friend.
You can tell how wonderful Sasha-Ama is just looking at her badge on my page! She LOVES to play, and does it a lot here at the Bridge. She likes to chase butterflies, and mousies, and rats, and pretty much anybody that will play with her for a little while! She's just a bundle of angel energy! She took to her angel wings right away, because now she could even play up high with the birds!
Sasha really loves her mommy. She and I send her love beams a lot so she won't feel lonely. Her mommy fell in love with her right away, and it's easy to see why! I always love playing with Sasha, because she has so many rat friends. I have more hamsters, so when we get together, there's always LOTS of romping and happy meowing and chirping sounds. :D
If you want to see a REALLY cute photo, check out Sasha-Ama's page where she is telling everyone what she thinks about showers. My mommy always gets a big smile when she sees that!
Check out my previous star friends too ~

Wow, what a hard choice this is, picking one friend at a time! I should have thought of that! *teehee*
Okay, this time, I am picking Coco (426457) for my star friend of the week. Coco is a veryvery special and veryvery HAPPY friend who I met in his Happy Kitties group. He is ever so generous and kind, he sends beautiful rosettes with pretty pictures in them, and he's so loving and devoted, especially to his mommy and his furmate, Bonnie. There's just so many nice things I can say about Coco! Go to his page and read more!
Recently, sweet Coco was feeling very ill and he had to spend some time at the v-e-t. We were all so worried, but then they found out that Coco had crystals and now he's so very much better! All of us friends are super-duper relieved!
Enjoy your star week, Coco! I love being your friend!

It's Saturday, so that means I get to pick a new friend to highlight for the upcoming week. Today, I choose the beautiful and precious Mara and Malaika (157420).
They met me what seems like forever ago now...and their mommy is such a sweet person, it's like we've always known each other. Mara, or Marty as she's now called, is a stunning and charismatic girl, and angelic Malaika has two of the most soulful eyes Mommy and I have ever seen.
Malaika is here at the Bridge with me now, and we get together lots to send our mommies lots of angel sparkles and love beams. We're fascinated with all the squirrels and birds here at the Bridge! We would never hurt them, but we adore romping after them and playing together. We also love giving Marty a little tickle just to keep her on her paws...but we kind of give ourselves away with our version of kitty giggling too. It's TOTALLY fun when we can get Milla and Lillie in on the game! :)
(On that note, Malaika's Mommy, if you think you hear the paws of four little angel kitties softly thumping...you do. It's us ~ *teehee*) :D
Here's the list of previous Star Friends if you wanna meet some more sweet cats ~ (just replace the Catster number on your kitty's page with these to get there):

I got the sweetest p-mail from Angel Miss Kitty asking if I want to be sparkle sisters! Of course, I said yes!
Now you can see Angel Miss Kitty's beautifully stunning and stupendously gorgeous face in my badge section on my page.
She's such a great friend, and now my sparkle sister!

Catster Plus members get an additional bio field now, so I was thinking hard about what I wanted to do with mine.
I decided to make a Star Friend of the Week! This is one of my special friends who I highlight starting on Saturday. I'm doing it not only so my buddies can have a little bit of extra attention, but also so kitties coming to my page can meet another awesome friend. All of my friends are special, but I have forever to tell you about all of them, one at a time. :D
For my first Star Friend, I have Darwin's handsome badge. Darwin and his mommy are wonderful and caring friends with ever so much personality and charm! He's so brave, he even checks for monsters under his bed. WOW! Make sure you check out Darwin's site! (He's Catster 132108 if you prefer to go to the link yourself rather than use the badge).
I wish I had money to actually give a Catster star to the weekly honoree, but I don't. Sorry! Mew! I just thought that stars in the sky are so veryvery pretty and magical, and so are my friends, so I called it that. Each week, I'll keep a running list of the previous stars, so kitties can easily see a great group of pages to visit!

Well, there seems to be a game circulating on Catster to tell seven things about yourself and tag seven more kitties to play too. I got tagged by the ever so handsome Whael and Dante, and the stunningly beautiful Galena today.
I will tag my seven kitties in p-mail, as I don't know who they are yet. *teehee* My Angel Cats friends should be on alert though, since we play cloud tag a lot already. :)
7 Things about Miss Mickey ~ that's me!
1. I love people food and was very demanding whenever anyone had any. (What means this, NO?). I also was spoiled and drank Brita water.
2. I was named after the little boy on the Life cereal ad from the 1970's. Mommy wanted a kid brother named Mikey, and the doctors all thought she was supposed to get one when she was 4, but then the baby ended up being a girl! (They didn't do sonograms routinely back then). So then Mommy thought she was going to the kitty breeder to get a black male Persian to be her Mikey...but then I was there and I was her destiny! MEW! So I'm Mickey instead. :)
3. I gave my mommy my shed whiskers as presents ~ and she has two tin boxes full of them! I always made sure to leave them where she would find them. I even left one for her on her bed two months after I came to the Bridge. I can do magic like that.
4. When Daddy took Mommy away to Australia to meet his daddy, I knew she would *never* leave me for 13 whole days without seeing each other for any part at all ~ so I refused to let Daddy sleep with Mommy for a whole week after he brought her home. Ha! I velcroed myself to Mommy, and then I meowed and gave him warning hums until he went out to sleep on the couch. I put Daddy in the doghouse, mister!
5. Sunbeams rock my world!
6. I loved helping Mommy with her yoga ~ not only did I help her expand her poses around me being glued to her, but I also purred very loudly while she meditated to help her get to her happy place quicker.
7. I love napping with Mommy listening to raindrops outside.
~ Updates ~
These are the seven kitties I tagged. That was hard to pick only seven because all my friends fascinate me. :)
1. Bixit Boseph
2. Autumn Bear
3. Mandu Kitty
4. Phoebe
5. Bethany Hope Piper
6. Angel Miss Kitty
7. Camila
I got tagged by cutie Zipper too late Tuesday, so make sure you go to his page (476192) and read about him! :)
Also Darwin the super-handsome white kitty (132108) and Ren the precious momma's boy kitty (388646) tagged me on Wednesday morning. Make sure you read their pages too! You can find their pages on my friends list. Mommy's all tired this morning to put their numbers in. *teehee*
Make sure you check out Spike (174128) and Fish's (509164) pages. I've been getting tagged a lot. :)
Today I got tagged by Pooh Bear (507343). What an awesome cat!
I hope nokitty thinks I am bragging about being tagged so many times. I know I'm not the only one...I just think all these cats are incredibly special, so I want to talk about them so people go read their pages too.

Mommy has been having a particularly fragile time lately, so I came and brought her to the Bridge last night in her dreams. She dreamed of me in a room, and then when she came over and picked me up, I helped her come visit me in our spirit home.
She and I were ever so happy being together again. Mommy says she really needed that. She kissed my paws, and I gave her head rubs with my tabby M on her cheek, and Mommy said she was in bliss because she could feel my fur and my paw pads and my ear tufts and she could smell me and hear my beautiful meowing and purrs. We were talking together for some time too. This was one of our special visits, where we had astral time with our souls and it was more than just the awareness of one another and our bond.
We were together for a while, but then Mommy had to go back, so I gently helped her even though she knows how, and then I stayed over her and bathed her in my angel light. She woke up a little too soon though, 'cause she had to tinkle, so she hurts a little bit, but she's got a deep happiness in her now and she is enjoying the Mickey-aura I gave her to help her feel safe.
She is still going to the doctor on Wednesday morning to get back on her depression pills, but I wanted to help her stay safe until then. We talked in our minds about her depression and how she has to accept needing to stay on her medicine until she comes to the Bridge now. She gets ashamed, but I told her, how could such a special mommy have anything to be ashamed about?
I love her with a loyalty that will never be broken, and I will always be there to help her, but she also needs to make sure she takes her pills. It doesn't mean she did anything wrong, it's just the way her brain gets imbalanced and depressed. It's not her fault. Her last doctor wanted her to stay on pills for the rest of her life. We'll have to see what her new doctor says, but I can't see that he will disagree with her Calgary doctor, and even her Virginia doctor before her.
I reminded Mommy that we've been dealing with this together since I met her in 1989 and she needs to realize that she can only manage to stay off pills for about a year, give or take, and every time she crashes again, it's worse. Every time, she fights going back on the pills for way too long and if she's honest, it's nowhere close to a year that she's okay off them. It's so much better if she just stays on her medicine. She made a promise to me that she will take her pills as long as her new doctor wants her to. That made me happy, because I know Mommy would never break a promise she made to me. My mommy is perfect to me and always will be.
I will keep taking care of Mommy always. I knew she needed a visit last night, and it was so beautiful and nice. I needed it too. I love coming around her, but it's not the same as feeling her kisses and having her wrapped around me.
I want to say thank you to the special Catster friends who have been helping Mommy too. If you're a friend reading this who didn't know what was happening, don't feel bad. Everything has been so much more difficult for Mommy than usual, and a couple of kitties saw that we weren't posting, so they p-mailed us. Mommy is very honest so she talked to them about things.
I'm sorry that I've been away more, but Mommy needed me to focus on her while she's in a desperate waiting time until she goes to the doctor. It was supposed to be yesterday afternoon, but they changed it on her (which I was NOT happy about) and now she goes on Wednesday morning. I'll be helping her get through to Wednesday now, and once Mommy feels better, we should be back lots and lots as usual (well, except during Mommy's work time, so she doesn't get in trouble).

I saw this story on the blog of Sakanta, who is my friend Saint Sonoma the Cat's mommy. It made Mommy get all teary thinking of that sweet little soul, and so we decided we wanted to put the story here too. Ugly, I will look for you at the Bridge, you beautiful sweetheart.
FROM: JustGive.Org - Inspiring Stories: Author Unknown
Everyone in the apartment complex I lived in knew who Ugly was. Ugly was the resident tomcat. Ugly loved three things in this world: fighting, eating garbage, and, shall we say, love.
The combination of these things combined with a life spent outside had their effect on Ugly. To start with, he had only one eye and where the other should have been was a gaping hole. He was also missing his ear on the same side, his left foot appeared to have been badly broken at one time, and had healed at an unnatural angle, making him look like he was always turning the corner. His tail has long age been lost, leaving only the smallest stub, which he would constantly jerk and twitch.
Ugly would have been a dark grey tabby, striped-type, except for the sores covering his head, neck, even his shoulders with thick, yellowing scabs. Every time someone saw Ugly there was the same reaction. "That's one UGLY cat!!"
All the children were warned not to touch him, the adults threw rocks at him, hosed him down, squirted him when he tried to come in their homes, or shut his paws in the door when he would not leave. Ugly always had the same reaction. If you turned the hose on him, he would stand there, getting soaked until you gave up and quit. If you threw things at him, he would curl his lanky body around feet in forgiveness.
Whenever he spied children, he would come running, meowing frantically and bump his head against their hands, begging for their love. If you ever picked him, up he would immediately begin suckling on your shirt, earrings, whatever he could find.
One day Ugly shared his love with the neighbor's huskies. They did not respond kindly, and Ugly was badly mauled. From my apartment I could hear his screams, and I tried to rush to his aid. By the time I got to where he was laying, it was apparent Ugly's sad life was almost at an end.
Ugly lay in a wet circle, his back legs and lower back twisted grossly out of shape, a gaping tear in the white strip of fur that ran down his front. As I picked him up and tried to carry him home, I could hear him wheezing and gasping, and could feel him struggling. It must be hurting him terribly, I
thought.
Then I felt a familiar tugging, sucking sensation on my ear. Ugly, in so much pain, suffering and obviously dying, was trying to suckle my ear. I pulled him closer to me, and he bumped the palm of my hand with his head, then he turned his one golden eye towards me, and I could hear the distinct sound of purring. Even in the greatest pain, that ugly battled-scarred cat was asking only for a little affection, perhaps some compassion.
At that moment I thought Ugly was the most beautiful, loving creature I had ever seen. Never once did he try to bite or scratch me, or even try to get away from me, or struggle in any way. Ugly just looked up at me completely trusting in me to relieve his pain.
Ugly died in my arms before I could get inside, but I sat and held him for a long time afterwards, thinking about how one scarred, deformed little stray could so alter my opinion about what it means to have true pureness of spirit, to love so totally and truly. Ugly taught me more about giving and compassion than a thousand books, lectures, or talk show specials ever could, and for that I will always be thankful. He had been scarred on the outside, but I was scarred on the inside, and it was time for me to move on and learn to love truly and deeply. To give my total to those I cared for.
Many people want to be richer, more successful, well liked, beautiful, but for me, I will always try to be Ugly.

This was written by zellaswolf, Steve Bateman. I found it posted on www.petloss.com. Steve has a book available on lulu.com if anyone is interested ~ part of the proceeds of the paper copies go to animal rescue. You can also download it for free. The book is called Rainbow Tears, and it is available here ~ http://www.lulu.com/content/784946
Don’t Think
Don’t think that I left you; I am here in your heart,
I have been here with you, right from the start,
From the day we first met – till I took my last breath,
From my moment of birth – to my moment of death,
And now that my body has gone from this earth,
I am still here with you – as I was from my birth.
Don’t think for a moment that I left your side,
You feel I am here, by each tear cried,
In silence I follow each step that you walk,
I hear you soft voice, each time you talk,
When you sleep I am with you, here at your feet,
And one day, my friend, we will once again meet.
Don’t think, my friend, that you betrayed my love,
By letting me go, and sending me above,
I could not stay one moment more,
I tried to show you, by offering my paw,
But through your tears, you could not see,
From the moment we met, you belonged to me.
Don’t think I can’t see you, all the tears that you cry,
I see your heart breaking as your chest heaves a sigh,
I feel all your sadness, and I know you miss me,
But my friend I am happy, I am now running free,
So look through your tears, reach out with your heart,
I’m still here my friend - as I was from the start.

So yesterday I was ever so proud!! My Daddy was in the newspaper.
His company he works for got taken over by a bigger company. It was a little family owned business before that and 'cause we live in a small city they waited a year before telling everyone they were now owned by a big place. People like family run places in a city like this.
So they had a big ad in the paper yesterday and it had pictures of all the people who work there...including MY DADDY!
Mommy bought a copy for her sparkle box where she keeps all of her reallyreally important things. And I share that box too!

I belong to a group here on Catster called Over the Rainbow. We have been talking there on the group messages about an article called Do Animals Have Souls? Which, OF COURSE they do. I responded to the original post, and then Annie (Dogster 433547) wrote this:
"Could anyone look at Miss Mickey and say that cat doesn't have a soul!!! Those are some of the most soulful looks I've ever seen."
Oh my! Mommy's heart just leaped with happiness that someone said something so nice.
I would like to copy the original article here on my page, because I love it so much:
Do Animals Have Souls?
By Stacy Mantle
I was talking with a coworker the other day and he informed me that animals do not have emotions.
This is just after he told me (the day that I put my dog of 17 years down) that animals do not have souls
And therefore will never enjoy the concept of heaven.
Animals do have emotions and they also have souls, and I'll tell you how I know that.
In over twenty years of working with animals, I have never seen a kitten duct-tape a live human baby to a freeway.
I also have never seen a cat find enjoyment from setting a human on fire.
I've never gone hiking in the desert to find a child that dogs have left tied to a stake,
Without food and water, subjecting it to a painful death in the desert heat.
I have never seen a chicken force two unwilling humans to fight in a ring with razor blades attached to their feet
While the chickens place bets on who will be the first to die.
I haven't seen a puppy place eight children in a gunnysack and drown them in a river.
Neither have I seen an eagle aim a shotgun at an unarmed human.
I have yet to see a bear kill a human simply to place a head on the wall of their cave.
And to this day, I have not seen a pigeon drive a car down the road and
Aim for humans who were walking around the park.
Let me tell you what I have seen.
I have seen my own cats sleep next to me so they may keep me a little warmer while I was ill.
I've seen my dogs play games with me just to force a smile to my face.
I have seen a cat rush into a burning home not once, not twice, but six
Times to save her kittens, nearly losing her own life in the process.
I have seen a ferret pull a frightened kitten out of a deep hole in the ground.
I have seen a coyote fetch another dog so that it may get the proper medical care that it needs.
I've seen a dog, who loves to jump on people, avoid jumping on me when I injured my back.
I've seen elephants cry.
I've seen monkeys scream in empathy when one of their own were injured.
I've seen puppies whine all night long when they were separated from their mothers.
I've seen a dog pull a child away from a fire.
These are only a few of the things that I've seen.
To list them all would take a lifetime, and I think you get my point.
As for the soul thing?
Well, it is my humble opinion that if you have emotions, any kind of emotions, then you have a soul.
Ironically, the (old) Pope of the Roman Catholic Church recently stated that he feels the same way.
Now, I can't prove that animals have souls. But then, I can't prove that you or I have one either.
And for all those people who firmly believe that animals don't have souls -
Well, I suppose if there really is a heaven, you'll probably
Have the job of cleaning out all the litter boxes.......

I know not everyone is into this sort of thing, but I got my new paw tattoo done recently. I'd had a paw cast done while I had Mickey boarded at her vet in July 2005 ~ one front paw and one back paw. The cast of her front paw came out almost heart-shaped on the big pad, and I'd always been smitten with that.
When Mickey went to the Bridge, I felt like I wanted to have her paw over my heart forever. I looked down at her little head as she took her last breath, snuggled in her favorite blanket, nestled over my heart, and I couldn't imagine how I was going to walk out of that vet's room and never have her nestled there again until we're both at Rainbow Bridge. I waited for a little while to make sure that it wasn't just raw emotion wanting the tattoo, but then after her three month Bridgeday, I decided it was time. I told the artist that I wanted the paw done exactly as it is on the cast. I didn't want it "neatened up" so it looked even, I wanted her little paw to be realistic. I know the cast isn't perfect either, but that was one step of her paw, and we were going with that.
I have to say that this one hurt the most of the four I have. I have a tribal ankle bracelet with runes (my first), a tiny heart on my left hand, and a small Canadian maple leaf just over the place my navel ring used to be. The skin over the heart area is sure sensitive! I just thought of my baby, and I got through it fine.
It's still healing and looking a bit rough, but I put a photo up on Mickey's page for now until it's completely even and I can update the picture. Until we are in the same place again, her paw will always be over my heart. It already was in spirit, but now the physical form of her beautiful paw is there too.

Mickey's Mommy here ~ I think it's best if I tell this one, because Mickey will leave out the brattiest parts. *teehee*
Okay, so, this is back sometime before April of 1992, because we moved out of my mom's house then. My bedroom was on the second floor, above the dining room.
One morning, I woke up very early to the sound of the neighbor's Dalmatian, Spooky, barking REALLY loud. After a couple of minutes, it registered that he really shouldn't sound that loud because Spooky had an electric fence and a little box on his collar. He sounded like he was right underneath my window. I looked out, and sure enough, there he was! Jumping around and roo-roo-rooing like crazy. He'd been chasing squirrels for several days but staying in his fenced area. This morning, he apparently found one too tempting to remember the little black box.
When I went downstairs, I saw Miss Mickey sitting right up against the glass of the French doors. Not only was she sitting as close to the window as she could be without actually touching it, but she was squishing up her face and making bratty faces at him, egging him on! Being Mickey-telepathic, I shall translate for you - "HA HA!! I'm in here and you can't get me! Ha ha ha ha HA ha!"
"Miss Mickey!!" I didn't know whether to yell or laugh at the brazenness of this current display of her bratdom. On one hand, she really shouldn't be teasing the poor dog who was probably freaked out enough from running across his electric fence. On the other, my goodness, she looked so darned cute!
There was another problem of how to get Spooky back in his yard when his people didn't seem to be home. I definitely didn't want him to get shocked again, but I didn't have a leash or anything, and I definitely couldn't let him in the house. We didn't have a garage. Luckily, someone out walking suggested that people usually don't pay to dig up their driveways to install the fence there, so we could probably walk him up that way. Luckily, Spooky didn't remember later that he could walk there without getting a buzz.
I still think about that story often, remembering the bratty little face squishing up in all kinds of different grimaces at the big spotted dog.
Oh yes, maybe we'll make this TWO bratty Mickey stories...
When I was in university, I shared an apartment with a friend for a little while. Of course, Mickey came too. There was a couple of weeks when I was assembling a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle on the coffee table in our family room. Usually I prefer the 500's because they don't take so long to do, but finally, I'd managed to finish this bigger one. I left it on the table and headed into the bedroom for the night.
Well, apparently, Miss Mickey had just about enough of feeling ignored in favor of the puzzle (like I'd EVER ignore her, but she was used to a lot of attention). When I woke up and stumbled into the kitchen, I saw some puzzle pieces on the floor. Then I looked on the table and saw that Ms. Brat had clawed about 150 pieces out of the center of the puzzle and batted them all over the floor. For good measure, she chomped a couple of them so the picture couldn't be put back perfectly again. She was gonna make sure that Mommy didn't ignore her for that ol' puzzle ANYmore.
That actually was the only time that I "spanked" Mickey. I was tired and not really thinking straight, and the first thing I saw was aggravating. The bedroom door was closed since my roommate was still asleep, and when I chased Mickey, she got blockaded there. I gave her what couldn't really ever be called a spanking, just one tap, really. She looked up with the biggest eyes, and gave a helpless little mew, like, "Mommy! You're spanking me!" My heart broke. I scooped her up, carried her into the kitchen, put her on the counter, and promptly gave her six Pounce treats...essentially for being bad and destroying my puzzle.
So much for being a disciplinarian. LOL I never could really yell at Mickey (except for the time when I shook the walls yelling her name because she'd gotten into my container of chocolate-peanut butter Baskin Robbins when I briefly left the room, but that was only because I was scared about the chocolate making her sick). Once I thought about it, it became cute that she wanted to get rid of what she saw as her competition. That kitty always did have me wrapped around her tufty little tabby paw.
*MICKEYLOVE!*

I found this wonderful little poem on www.petloss.com. I love it for so many reasons, but I will just let it speak for itself.
NO WORLD CAN KEEP US APART
by momosmom on www.petloss.com
My time has come, I must say Good-bye,
Please mom don't you worry, please don't you cry.
I'm surrounded by Angels and a sweet heavenly glow,
I'm in good hands, mom, I want you to know.
Don't ever think that you've failed me,
That's simply not so,
You would've given it all to save me,
Believe me, I know.
I will always remember the love that we shared,
Nor will I ever forget, just how much you cared.
God needed me in Heaven,
He called me to his side,
Don't cry for me, mommy, it'll all be alright.
I know that you'll miss me,
But have faith and you'll know,
That someday you will hold me once again,
God promised us so.
I shall come to see you,
Look close with your heart,
We are forever connected in spirit,
No World can keep us apart.

This has been an amazing day for me, with so much support from old and new Catster friends alike.
At first, I was kind of surprised that Mickey's diary was selected as Diary of the Day, because although it is filled with happy stories, the most recent entry was my struggling with adjusting to Mickey living at Rainbow Bridge now. But then I became very grateful that more of my Catster friends would see it and understand exactly how important they are. Everyone here has helped more than they probably know, and I am forever thankful.
I have answered every one personally, but I want to put this here too ~ thank you to all of you who sent stars and rosettes, friend requests, and pawmails, and thank you to all of you who took a little bit of time in your day to share in the love that Mickey and I are blessed with. We really do have a happy and sacred bond, even if I am having some rough days lately. Mickey visits me often and I still have never not felt her connected with me for even a second. We know that our physical separation is only temporary, but it is still difficult. We have enjoyed reading the stories on pages of new friends and revisiting those who know already. There is so much love here!
I know that Mickey herself appreciates all of her new friends, and those at the Bridge who have reached out to her. She and I both look out for new arrivals so that she can help them feel welcome and I can do her administrative work of sending pawmails, pressies, and love. When I first was given the Rainbow Bridge poem several years ago, it was like a spiritual remembering, not just words on a page. I really feel that our eternity work is there with sweet animal souls, and I know without a doubt that Rainbow Bridge is real.
Thank you, Catster!

Today is March 3, and it's coming up on Mickey's 3 months at Rainbow Bridge on the 5th.
I feel so completely broken. The tears are starting up again, I hurt so much emotionally and physically, and nothing is the same. I had been doing a little better for a while, but I'm falling apart. I see the date on the calendar and know why.
I made her a tribute video last night, with some of the only clips I have. They were from a digital camera that did a max of one minute, and didn't always adjust the lighting properly. I have a few that are dark that really only I can appreciate. My baby girl in a shadow. The ones that were the most clear, I put together in Windows Movie Maker. Some precious moments of her life with me captured in a moving picture this time.
I just don't think this is ever going to get easier. And I'm just so sad. :(
If any of my Catster friends are reading this, you have all helped SO greatly, and I appreciate every one of you. I love sharing in your babies' stories and sharing Mickey's with you. Thank you to all of you for your support and fun! I would not be doing as well as I have been if I hadn't found Catster. It has truly been a joy.
If you are not one of our friends but would like to be, both Mickey and I welcome you. We really are very loving and happy, it's just that I'm having such a hard time right now.
Mickey, Mommy loves you so much it can't be put into words. I'm trying so hard to be better, and all of your visiting really helps, but it's just not going to be the same until we are living together again. I hope you understand, baby. Thank you for taking such good care of me, sweetheart. I am getting the paw print we had made of your front paw tattooed over my heart on March 16. It will always be there in spirit and now it will be in body as well for as long as we have to be apart.
Love from every ounce of my soul,
Mommy
xoxoxoxoxo and maybe a zerbert if that's okay. :)
(if anyone is wondering, a zerbert is a razzberry kiss...I first heard the word from Rudy on the Cosby Show in the 80's)

It's Mickey's mommy again borrowing the diary. :)
Mickey just wrote something in her Happy Kitties group about how we used to dance together before she went to the Bridge. I wanted to write here about how wonderful it is to dance with your kitty. There is something magical about snuggling your special little furry friend like that.
Now, I know some of you won't believe me, but it's even better when you do it in front of a big open window. Why worry that someone might see you? Just pick up your kitty, put on a good song (Great Big Sea is my favorite), and go! I'm telling you, I would never ever be caught dancing in a nightclub or public place. Who knows how to dance like you're "supposed" to? And I'm about as introverted as they come.
BUT - Cat dancing is an experience in real joy. The love is what drives you, not the steps. Completely uninhibited cat dancing not only makes you happy, but if someone does look in and see you, it usually makes them smile too. The first couple of times you get caught, it makes you jump a little, but after that, you almost want to.
It's all about the kitty love and sharing it, baby. :)
Pretty much anything goes when it comes to dancing, but always be careful when dipping. Don't forget how little your partner is.
Dancing can also bond us to our babies once they go to Rainbow Bridge. My sister has a gorgeous blue kitty named Dave that she got when I brought Mickey home for the first time (you can see his kitten photo on Mickey's album). Davy is a cool jazz kitty. He loved to have his radio on all day so he could listen to his jazz. Well, he also loved to dance to jazz. I would go over to visit him and pick him up, and dance!
Davy went to the Bridge back in January 2001 when his kidneys failed. Not long after that, I found a stuffed kitty made by Ty that looked very much like him. I bought one for my sister and one for me.
A couple of years later, I had moved to Canada, and was missing Davy. I put on our favorite dancing song, which is a version of Oye Coma Va done by Fattburger. I picked up the Ty Davy kitty, and started to dance. Well! In the middle of the song, the kitty purred! It really purred! That was Davy telling me from the Bridge that he was dancing there with me in spirit and being happy that I was still playing our song.
So dancing can also be very comforting too.
I highly recommend it. :)

I forgot to put this in here earlier. Guess what happened? I got awarded Angel of the Week in my Persian and Himalayas group! It happened last Sunday on February 25, 2007 and today is Saturday, March 3 and I am still being it. I feel very special! My picture got put on the group page, and I got a new star. If you are reading this and you don't know about that group, you should click the link on my page and go there. They are such a cool group of cats!
Speaking of stars, I think they're great. When Mommy first joined Catster, she signed up for Plus right away. That gave us 25 rosettes each month, but do you know what, that is just not enough! There are too many special kitties to give them to! We had 10 zealies when we first signed up for Catster. We gave an anonymous star to our favorite doggy, Poochie Puppy Kisses, and then Mommy used up the other 5 zealies to make a sparkly star on my page.
Bear's Mommy was really nice to us, and she gifted us some zealies. That helped! Then Catster was nice and said that if we added new listings and reviews to Local, we could earn zealies. Well, Mommy went to work and added all the places we know about, both here around Calgary and Lethbridge, and also where we used to go in Virginia before we moved. She got up to 175 zealies or so. It makes us so veryvery happy to give out stars and rosettes! So now, Mommy says that she'll just have to spend some of her treat money on zealies when she runs out again.
Oh yeah, and while I put something about the Angel of Week, I'll also put down so I remember later that I got to be a daily Catster Diary pick a while ago. Sometimes I get busy playing with bubbles and butterflies and my Bridgefriends, and also visiting Mommy, that I forget things for a little while!

Well, Mommy wrote a big ol' book before, so I thought I would take over to add this part in. :)
Mommy was telling me how much she loves my kitty sounds, and she can't believe that she didn't write that in that big post. Mommy speaks very fluent Cat and she is cat telepathic with me too.
She says it's hard to pick just one favorite Mickey-sound. Mommy does have a thing about paws thumping when they jump down, and when I made that trilly sound at the same time, you could make a bet that the camera was coming out again!
The trilly sound when I jumped up in bed with Mommy was always a good one to make her fuss. *heh* I am good at making her fuss.
I have a very loud meow, and a love for caterwauling too. But there's not just one meow, there is an intricate language of lengths and volumes that mean different words.
I'm lucky, my mommy understands them all. I understand her too, I just pretend like I don't when she says NO. *teehee*

I have been a member of the wonderful website, www.petloss.com, for a long time now. I first joined when I was grieving my two hamster babies in the late 90's, but then I started reading more again as Mickey's last days approached. There is a thread there asking to tell about our fur baby soulmates. I started typing, and then couldn't seem to stop! I wanted to copy the story here for Mickey's diary on her tribute page.
My baby, Mickey, is my forever soulmate. This is going to end up long, I'm sure, so sorry in advance if that bothers anyone. I haven't told the full story here, just bits.
I got her in November of 1989, when I was just about to turn 19 two weeks later. At the time, I was pretty much an emotional mess. I had been bulimic since 1984, I was in university with so many people pushing me to be an ever worse perfectionist, heading for a nervous breakdown, and dealing with what I will put in simple terms as childhood abuse issues.
My younger sister and I both wanted kittens, so my mother took us to a breeder of Persian cats. My sister wanted a blue, and I wanted what I called "the ultimate bad luck kitty," a long-haired all-black. The breeder had two kittens that fit that, and we went over to her home.
By the time we got there, the black was gone. They were writing up the sale papers for my sister's blue, and then my entire world changed. A little 13 week old brown tabby girl stuck her head out from beneath a couch that had a frill at the bottom. I could literally feel a cosmic shift.
Only one problem. She wasn't for sale. The breeder had just gotten her from another breeder to use a momma kitten because of her unique coloring.
She had to be for sale. I had to be with her. I would have paid everything I had, but we settled on $600. That was the best bargain I ever got. My sister and I chased her around a bit to take her home since she's always been skittish around new people.
Mickey quite literally saved me. I won't say it was immediately, because I didn't stop being bulimic until I was 24, and I was still dealing with other issues for a while after that. But her light and love gave me something to focus on.
She could be such a brat! She loved to get Davy in trouble in the morning when they got their Fancy Feast. Mickey would purposely sit in front of her bowl and not eat right away because she knew Dave would try to sneak some of her food and get scolded. She sat on a green velvet covered antique chair in my mother's dining room like it was her throne. She would jump up on the table when we went out, and then come down again when she saw the car turn into the driveway, then give an innocent, "what?" pout when someone accused her of being bad.
And then there was the time when my sister and her friends made a lasagna. Being teenagers and not caring too much about putting the other half away properly, they left it on the kitchen counter and went to play video games downstairs. We came into the room later to find two kittens with tomato sauce all over their mooshy faces, being gluttons in the pan. There's so many stories like that!
When I graduated from university, I got engaged and moved out. That had its own set of issues, but Miss Mickey came with me and was there no matter what. By now, she was pretty much like glue, following me around everywhere and sleeping with me too. Mickey was my best friend through a three week hospitalization where I couldn't handle the emotional timebomb anymore and checked myself into a psych facility with a program focused on my type of abuse issues. I plastered her photographs over my headboard and seeing her was the only thing that motivated me to get out again. When I got my first day pass, preparing for discharge, the first place I went was to see her (she was staying at my mom's). She was a little bit uppity because she didn't know why I would leave her for so long, but it didn't take long for her to forgive me. I didn't care about getting out to go back to my marriage, I didn't care about my career, but being with that little brown tabby cat was something that I couldn't live without.
Mickey loved me through all of that, through the first time I tried to leave my marriage, through being pressured to go back again, through gaining weight because I'd stopped purging, through the four years when I left my regular job to help with my ex's conventions and I had to leave her for two or three long weekends every month. We got to be side-by-side on the other days, but being in another city so much and not sleeping with her hurt.
Mickey had a sweet little ritual when we moved to one particular house. I had my own bedroom again, sleeping on two futon mattresses stacked on the floor. Mickey would cuddle at the foot of the bed and purr me to sleep, then she would go and do a kitty patrol around the house to make sure all way safe before jumping up to her favorite bed at the time. It was a blanket nest on top of two storage containers in my closet. I always left the door open for her.
We snuggled in the tangled up blankets on the floor-bed. We made room for each other like two little peas in a pod in my double-papasan chair. At least two big pillows, two blankets, me, and a little six pound tabby. It was like a cocoon, and we loved it. Mickey went wherever I did. If I went to the bathroom, she came too and then followed me back again. If I worked in the upstairs office, she slept on the Lazy Boy recliner. She had a special affinity for sunbeams. I sang songs to her several times a day. Anything set to music was fair game to have the words changed to be about Mickey. I had her photo drawn, I kept every whisker and claw she shed, I had her paw prints cast. I always said she was so generous with her things, leaving me little whisker presents. There were two things Mickey hated. Getting brushed and being away from Mommy. (Well, three things...the few times when she needed a bath were truly horrid).
She moved with me so many times from that first trip home from the breeder. Home became the place where Mickey and I lived, not any one particular location. I separated from my first marriage for good in February 2002. She came back to my mother's, she and I got our first apartment alone together, and then she immigrated to Canada with me when I met my human soulmate who also became Mickey's Daddy. That also started the era of the digital camera, where my collection of tabby photos grew by thousands!
In February 2003, I packed Miss Mickey up in her Sherpa and we boarded a flight to Seattle that would connect to Calgary. It took me a year and a half to get my immigration red tape all worked out, but it took Mickey all of five minutes. The officers that I thought would be all paperwork and seriousness cooed and fussed when Mickey came out of her carrier. She was a very good girl for that entire 13 hour journey. No accidents, and no loud meowing on the plane until I made a whirlwind 90 second trip to the lavatory. The minute I sat down again and she knew I was back, she was content again. The other passengers around us commented that they didn't even know there was a cat on board...well, except for our neighbor sitting in the window seat who was kind to let me put Mickey's carrier on the empty center seat between us.
Mickey and I moved twice in Canada too, ending up in a small city in southern Alberta when Calgary got too expensive. I'll never forget her Daddy grinning at her when George Thorogood came on the radio, and changing the words to be Tabby to the Bone. He was that enchanted with her too. :)
Three years before she went to Rainbow Bridge, Mickey was diagnosed hyperthyroid. But she couldn't tolerate the tapazole. It made her white blood cell count fall dangerously low, so she wouldn't be able to fight off infections. Luckily, it bounced back. But she wasn't a candidate for radioactive iodine either, even if we could have lived through the long separation necessary for the procedure. I took care of Mickey as her weight fell, feeding her when she meowed for more, and always loving her. With the exception of her weight loss and increased appetite, you would never have known she was sick. She still loved, she still ate and drank, she used her box properly, she still begged for people food, and she always did take every opportunity for beauty sleep, not that she needed it. :)
The one thing I couldn't do was be ready for her to go Home. I tried. I really did. I had three years to prepare, but how do you ever prepare to be separated from your soulmate? On a spiritual level, I always knew that Mickey was just going ahead to our forever-home, and that we would still always be connected when we were apart. I hadn't heard about the concept of the silver cord, I just knew that Mickey and I had a bond that would never break. On the level of someone who was going to be stuck on this planet and was still prone to the chemical imbalances of depression, I was really scared.
Mickey didn't want to leave me any more than I wanted her to go. My 36th birthday was coming up on December 2, and she was determined to be there for it. We took some spontaneous photos on November 25, and she looked like her light was fading, but it wasn't until the morning of December 5 that she told me that she was very ill. I noticed the previous day that she seemed more listless, so I made a mental note that I would take her to a vet in our new city very soon if she didn't improve. We had been through so many scares where she'd start acting that way, I'd worry, and just when I was ready to phone the vet, she'd bounce around like her old self wondering what all the fuss was about.
But on December 5, I went to kiss her on her lips like I did every morning before leaving for work, and there was a purple lump there. Where did it come from so fast? I'd just kissed her goodnight not that long ago, and it wasn't there. I was heartbroken, and I knew that even though I was able to get her a vet appointment one hour later, that I would be coming back with an empty carrier. The new vet was a wonderful soul, so caring and gentle. He told us that Mickey had a large abdominal mass that he could feel, and that it was an aggressive cancer she hadn't had for very long. The tumor on her mouth was the cancer spreading. It was indeed that fast that it could have grown overnight there. There wasn't anything we could do. She likely wouldn't last another week.
So I did the hardest thing that I've ever had to live through. We went into a special comfort room with a soft couch, with Mickey wrapped like an infant in her favorite pink and white blanket. She was still determined that she wasn't going anywhere. She tried to bite the vet when he put the needle near her paw. She tried to bite his assistant. Mickey just wanted to be snuggled in her blanket with her Mommy. The vet gave her a sedative so she wouldn't be in distress (and so we wouldn't either, it was agonizing enough as it was). We had another ten minutes together to cuddle and kiss and cry and love. When the vet came back in, Mickey didn't even need half of the injection before he said she was gone. I immediately asked, "are you sure?" It never felt like she was gone. He gave me an odd look and said yes.
We had another few minutes with Mickey before they took her away to arrange for the cremation. But there was never a second when I felt like she was gone. I still don't. It wasn't just blind faith, talking about Rainbow Bridge and eternal connections. Mickey is always bonded with me. She gave a faint little meow on the second day I came home from work in tears over her not being at the door as usual. She knew. She told me that she was still there, and not to worry.
Two evenings ago, I was changing the sheets on the bed. I'd checked so many times for any leftover whiskers, claws, or fur after she went Home. I checked the sheets before I put them in the wash. I'd been having such a hard time lately, and do you know what I found? A beautiful, curly black Mickey-whisker right in the middle of the bed! Where else could that have come from? My little girl still finds ways to say that she is always with me, my guardian angel kitty.
How do you end a story like this? I say you don't. How do you put an end to eternity? I would say that Mickey is my blessing, but I am also hers. We love each other in that deep way. If she had been left at that breeder, I'm sure she wouldn't have lived a long 17 years, four months, and three days full of devotion. She would have been a breeder cat, and a little six pound one at that. I don't think her little body would have handled that for nearly so long as she had to be adored the way she is with me.
With never-ending love from your forever-Mommy, Miss Mickey. I love you just isn't enough to describe it.

This is Renee borrowing Mickey's diary for an entry, because I am ever so touched about something that happened yesterday.
I have been having such a hard time getting used to my husband, Chris's, new kitten, Garret, being around way before I was ready to have someone else in Mickey's space. To make it even harder, Garret is all kitten. He leaps tall bookshelves in a single bound, scales the refrigerator, sits on top of my bedroom dresser, and is a bundle of energy.
I've had to lock away everything that is important to me, because nothing is safe from Garret. I wouldn't want him messing around with any of Mickey's things especially, but I'm also having boundary issues when I put my clothing seemingly out of reach yet return from work to find it on the floor with white fur on it. Or like yesterday morning when the only thing of mine I left out was my closed laptop on the dinette table, and I watched Garret deliberately jump up and sit on top of it as I stood helplessly at the bus stop across the street.
My spirits have been pretty low at times. I am trying to do the selfless thing, since my husband and Garret bonded at the local no-kill rescue place, and since I know that Garret was abused at his first home and needs a good one. It's just not always easy to be selfless. We keep our second bedroom closed at all times so I have a Garret-free zone, and I keep my other important things in my bedroom dresser with a ribbon wrapped through the door handles four times and then knotted to lock it (which is a nuisance to me, but worth it to keep my special things untouched). I also got two water bottles yesterday to help discipline Garret in a humane way not to misbehave.
Yesterday afternoon, I was off from work early. I took advantage of some extra time home to change the sheets on the bed. Now, I searched every inch of this apartment up and down on my hands and knees for leftover fur and whiskers after my baby went Home. Every little treasure has a special place. There wasn't anything left.
I searched the sheets before I took them off and threw them in the wash, even though I knew there shouldn't be anything there.
Then it happened. I was mad at Garret for whatever reason as I walked into the bedroom with the clean sheets in the early evening. Lo and behold, one beautiful curly black whisker appeared on the white mattress pad cover where I couldn't miss it. Where else could that have come from? All of Garret's whiskers are short and white, nothing like Mickey's long Persian ones. I even double-checked the whole area before I started the chore.
Mickey has been comforting me a LOT since she went Home, and even more so since Garret's been around. She has been very clear about the fact that she is with me always wherever I go. She even walks with me to work sometimes.
And then yesterday, she found a way to send one little black whisker as a physical sign to her Mommy.
There's just no word big enough to describe our love.

I thought I would tell the story today about the time when I could have left Mommy, but I didn't.
Mommy and Daddy moved to a new city in April 2006, because they couldn't afford to live in Calgary anymore. They moved into an apartment on April 19. I had to ride in the car for two and a half hours between places, which I didn't really like very much! I got thirsty, so Daddy stopped and bought me some bottled water. Also, that road trip is when he invented my Tabby to the Bone song. Some guy named George Thorogood did the song on the radio, but I think my version is much better! :)
But anyway, Mommy and Daddy were unpacking boxes in the new apartment. Mommy went onto the balcony and she almost fell because the railing was loose on one side! When the maintenance man came to fix the railing, he left the sliding glass door AND screen opened, and Mommy didn't know it.
That door was probably open for almost two hours before Mommy saw that there was a big gap that I could have easily gotten out of. The apartment is only on the second floor, and a cat could jump down without getting hurt. I was always an indoor kitty, and Mommy's previous husband made me get me front claws out (which Mommy is still mad about). Mommy couldn't find me, and she started yelling ever so loud!
Mommy and Daddy started running around like crazy screaming my name and looking everywhere. Mommy was almost in tears. She was so upset. I came out from a nap under the bed, like "what?" I couldn't figure out what all the fuss was about. Why would I want to leave my Mommy anyway?
Mommy was SO relieved!! I got a lot of kisses then, too many, actually.
Then the next day, the cable guy came to set up their internet and TV. Mommy let him in but he didn't close the front door all the way until it latched. After he was there for about ten minutes, Mommy saw the open door and went berserk all over again! "Mickey!! Mickey!! Baby!!"
I was just hiding in the bedroom because there was a stranger there again. I wouldn't have gone out the door.
Once Mommy calmed down, she started to cry because she was so happy that I didn't want to leave her. She couldn't believe that there were two times I could have gotten out in 24 hours anyway. Mommy is always so careful, but other people weren't, and that upset her. I am so veryvery important to Mommy.
By the time all this happened, Mommy and I had been together for 16 years. I love her so veryvery much! I still don't understand why she thinks I would have ever run away from her. Nobody in the entire eternity could love me more than Mommy, and I love her that much too!

I wanted to purr a happy valentine's wish to everycat and also to the doggies on Dogster.
There is something else to talk about too. Something happened over the weekend - Daddy got a new cat. Mommy was feeling so veryvery lonely missing picking me up, so she asked Daddy if they could go to the PAW Society on Saturday just so she could hold somebody for a few minutes.
Then it happened. A kitty who needed to be rescued adopted Daddy.
Mommy picked up Garret from a cat tree. He is a seven month old kitty who got dumped outside of the city where we live. He wandered into the office of a petrol station, and then he came to PAW to find a new home. He was living with a foster home before Daddy met him.
When Mommy picked up Garret, he took one look at Daddy and demanded to be passed over to him. Then he immediately touched his nose to Daddy's and then put his lips on Daddy's and he licked him. Linda, the rescue lady, said that was a big deal for Garret.
So then Daddy wanted to bring Garret home. I've only been here at Rainbow Bridge since December 5, and Mommy didn't feel like she was ready at all to have a new kitty in the apartment. She cried and cried, but she saw how much Daddy and Garret loved each other already, and she knew that Garret needed to be rescued. So Daddy called and made an adoption appointment for the next day.
By the time they finally fell asleep on Saturday night, they weren't going to get Garret after all, because Mommy couldn't stop crying about missing me. But then the next morning, Mommy told Daddy that she would be strong so that Daddy could get his cat.
When Garret came home, Mommy had such a hard time. She didn't like seeing him in all of the places where I used to go, and it hurt her very much that she saw him there but not me. Mommy and Daddy made a compromise that the second bedroom is a Garret-free zone where Mommy can keep my kitty house, and her group of little picture frames and her candles for her Monday Candle Ceremonies. Also she can go in there if she needs to get away for a little while. They keep that door closed all the time so my things are safe.
For a few hours, it looked like Garret might have to go back to PAW because Mommy cried so much. But still she decided to be strong so that Daddy and Garret could be together. She's having an easier time now, even though it is still hard. I have been coming around her a lot to help her. I know that she is always my special Mommy and that she can be Garret's friend and that Mommy and I will always have the special-est bond.
The other news is that Mommy finished her first knitted blankie for homeless furbabies. She can't knit with needles and she can't crochet, but she got some knitting looms for blankets and that worked! Tonight, Mommy finished the purple blankie that she started two weeks ago. She even did the last row with her crochet hook without making a mess of things! She's so happy that she can finally make blankies for the animal rescues. She's wanted to do that for a couple of years now, but it was hopeless trying to learn to knit or crochet.
Well, it's time for me to go play with my friend, Sneakers, for a while, so I'd better go. Sneakers is Mommy's friend from when she was a teenager. He's a pretty cool cat.

Miss Mickey and I weren't always in Canada. We started out living in Northern Virginia, until we met her new daddy/my husband unexpectedly on a hockey message board. Neither of us joined the forum looking for love, but we found it! The only thing was, he was in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and I was in the Washington D.C. area.
When it came time to talk about who would move, we never really looked into U.S. immigration, because I had already fallen in love with Calgary (and Chris, of course). :)
I had a telephone book sized application ahead of me for my own immigration once we were married, but Mickey had her own set of rules. Canada does not quarantine cats from the U.S. but you do need a current rabies vaccination as well as a health statement from a veterinarian clearing the cat for travel (must have been signed within the past seven days). Being the cat mommy that I am, I had these things as well as her complete medical chart. The health documents are also required by the airline.
On moving day, I carried more of Mickey's gear than my own! We had a 13 hour travel day ahead of us, flying from Dulles International Airport to Seattle/Tacoma, then a four hour layover before flying to Calgary and facing immigration. I had reserved an in-cabin space for Mickey, of course, so she had her nice new Sherpa carrier, a toy inside of that, some food and a water bowl for the layover, plastic bags in case of any yucky accidents that might need to be isolated fast, a harness and leash, a travel litterbox, tissues, and some tranquilizers in case she needed them in flight (she didn't). We had quite the production going through security getting her out of her Sherpa, all the stuff (and us) scanned since I was also bringing up my laptop computer, then getting everything back again.
On the flight, she was such a good girl. I'd been playfully chanting the subliminal message, "You will not poop on the airplane," for a couple of months ahead of the trip, and she didn't have a problem with that. She meowed during take-off and landing, but the plane was louder than she was. Since her carrier was under the seat in front of me at those times, no one could hear her except me since I was being hyper-sensitive about it. It turned out that I was in an aisle seat and a businessman was in the window one. He didn't mind if I put her carrier on the center seat next to me. Of course, you can't take a pet out of the carrier, but I lifted the arm up between us, and she was content to sit on the netted side of the carrier right up against my leg.
It wasn't until I had to make a quick tinkle run that anyone knew there was a cat on board. I waited until I could go straight into the lavatory, and was gone only about 90 seconds, but she was meowing when I got back. She quieted again as soon as I sat down. I apologized to the people right around us, and they all said that they didn't even know there was a cat until then. She continued to be a good girl until we landed, once again having her meowing drowned out by the aircraft.
During her layover, I had already scoped out an isolated restroom on a previous trip where I could put her on her happy face leash and offer her some litterbox time. She didn't want that, nor any food or water. I let her stretch her legs in a seated area on the far side of the airport, but then a couple of flights landed there, and people kept coming over to fuss over Mickey (I know I would have!). She got anxious about all the attention, so we found the perfect compromise for her. I sat in a black chair with her next to me, with the top of her Sherpa opened and her on her leash with the end wrapped around my wrist. This way she had more air, but no one could really see her...well, except for the lady at the snack shop, who saw the carrier and wanted to meet Mickey. She squealed at how cute she was. :)
At immigration, I had to go through the process of applying for my temporary resident visa, and explaining that yes, I was going to marry a Canadian in five months, and that I would be then applying for immigration under the inland spouse category. I had already been telling the customs officials on prior visits about visiting my fiance, and when the wedding would be. I had my bank statements and other documents scanned, and then finally had the visa in hand. It took a good half an hour just for me.
Once I claimed my luggage and headed to the area to clear Mickey into Canada, it was easy! I was the only customer there, so we were seen right away. The minute I took her out of her Sherpa, the two officers on duty made a huge fuss over her. They were cooing at her and gently petting her head, and then told me I could go.
"Um, don't you want to see her paperwork?"
"Oh yes!" A quick glance at her papers showed they were all in order, and we were free to go.
If only it was that easy for me! I moved to Canada on February 19, 2003. The wedding was on July 5, 2003. I didn't have my permanent residency status until April 4, 2004! :)

Someone had an excellent thread on the Pet Loss forums, and I wanted to copy my reply here in my diary because it's made me all Mickey-warm-and-furry. :)
"How do your babies show you their love?"
These days, she comes with her beautiful spirit around me, so I feel a sweet closeness that she is still with me. When she was still here in body, she stuck to me wherever I went. If I sat on the family room sofa, so did she. If I was reading in bed, I'd have to contort myself to make room for her. If I went to the bathroom, she'd sometimes follow me down the hall and then back again.
When I lived in a different place, I used to sleep on two futon mattresses stacked on the floor. Mickey had a nightly ritual of curling at the foot of my bed until I fell asleep, and then doing her little kitty patrol through the house to make sure all was safe before returning to sleep in a nested blanket on the floor of my closet (which I always left open for her).
In the last four months of her life, she couldn't even tolerate sleeping alone in the family room. She'd come and meow and meow until I came out to sleep on the couch with her. She had a special seat next to it, and she wouldn't sleep on it in the bedroom. It had to be just us.
She also used to greet me at the door whenever I returned. My husband and I laugh because usually I get home first, but one day he did. She came to the door meowing, and then when he came in alone, she looked up at him, stopped meowing, as if to say, "you're not Mommy!" That was one of the things that made me cry the hardest after she went to the Bridge. Not hearing the meowing as I put the key in the lock. I still greet her, since I know she's with me in spirit form. Then on the third day, as the tears started welling again, I heard a quiet little Mickey meow, and I didn't cry coming home anymore because I knew she still came to the door.
"How do they express themselves to you?"
Lots of meowing. She and I always understood each other. She, like all cats, has that delicate language of trilling, meowing, screeching, etc. and I speak very fluent Mickey.
Also through touch. I always knew that Mickey loved me when she refused to sit next to me without some part of her touching me.
She always liked when I meditated or did yoga. She'd be a little purr monster hugged up against me, so I learned how to form my postures around her. Wow, that was an amazing bond, in the spiritual state with the purring little tabby cat. It was like a cocoon. I can still have that now, and it's a big source of comfort.
"Do you think that they know when you are upset and how do they show that? "
Absolutely. If I cried, she came out of nowhere to sit next me and purr. She knew that her purring balanced my soul again, and she knew that she was an excellent little fixer of troubles. If she thought that her daddy (my husband) made me cry, he'd get a grand 'ol scowling-at from Miss Mickey until all was right in the room again.
"How do they try to comfort you?"
Purring, touching, being with me, and if all else failed, pulling out the heavy artillery of rolling over and showing her raggedy little tummy for smooches!

I want to thank all the wonderful people Mickey and I have met so far at Catster. It's awesome that so many of you think she's a cutie as much as I do!
I wish that I had found this site earlier, so I could have a diary dedicated to Mickey while she was still living here with me. But her life here was so special, that I could still have a diary filled with stories and experiences I had with her. And she is still always with me.
Today I thought I would share a story about how Mickey made sure that my first hamster, Whiskers, and I were together when Whiskers went to Rainbow Bridge.
Back then, I was involved in a convention business, so I was able to be home a lot with Mickey, but I had to travel two or three weekends a month. Mickey's Gamma used to come over to take care of her and my hammie, Whiskers. Whiskers lived in a ten gallon aquarium (more like a palace because I always spoil my furbabies :) ) in an upstairs bedroom. Mickey knew him. He used to roll around inside his plastic exercise ball and chase her around the room, but she put up with him because she knew how much I loved him.
Anyway, one night, I was in Virginia Beach, about four hours from where I used to live. We were set up at a disastrous convention, and we did something that we'd never done before. We packed up all the displays after the first day. We came back to the hotel to an emotional message from my mother. She had come for a second visit that Saturday to check on Mickey. She figured that she's already checked on Whiskers once, so he was probably fine.
But Miss Mickey wouldn't let her leave. She knew that he was upstairs in distress. She meowed and meowed and kept trying to lead her Gamma up to him. When my mother understood what Mickey was doing, she found Whiskers circling and circling around his home. He couldn't control himself. My mother tried calling the hotel number I'd left, but when she didn't get an answer, she took him to the emergency vet.
I got the voice message and immediately said that we had to go. We checked out of the hotel and hurried home to Whiskers. I was pretty hysterical. I called every twenty minutes or so on a cell phone trying to reach my mother. Finally I got her, and she told me that Whiskers had a stroke. The vet didn't have much to do for him, but he gave him a prednisone shot to try to reduce the swelling in his brain.
My little boy was still circling around his house when I got back. When I took him out and cradled him, he would calm for a few breaths while he was against my heart, but then the neurological problems started up again.
Hamsters just don't live long enough. Whiskers was my baby boy (still is) but that was his last night here. I only had him here for a year and seven months. I slept on a futon mattress on the floor with his aquarium right next to me. The sound of shuffling wood shavings was relentless, but we were both exhausted so I managed to get some sleep. I woke up during the night a couple of times to comfort him, but right after 6 a.m., I opened my eyes to find him curled up against the glass as close as he could have been to me. His little heart just couldn't take all of that rushing around.
If it wasn't for Mickey, my mother would have never known anything was wrong until the next day, when Whiskers would have probably been gone. Mickey made sure that Mr. Whiskers got care, and she made sure that I was able to get home to be with him at the end of his life here. She didn't think about the little pest in the purple plastic ball who crashed into her all the time. She thought about how much Mommy loved that little guy, and how much he needed help.
Mickey is a special girl that way. She's still with Mr. Whiskers. Not only do they live together at Rainbow Bridge waiting for me, but I have the ashes of Whiskers, my second hamster Matty, and Mickey in a little pink urn. (I wish I knew how to draw a heart on here, because that's what I want to put at the end of all of her entries).
