Arrival Story: I used to live next door to this kind-hearted 94-year-old man who had an indoor/outdoor cat named Katie. Katie escaped outside one day, was hit by a car, and left four orphans behind. The kittens were various shades of grey: two tiger tuxes, one grey and white tux, and a dark grey solid. One kitten died due to an unfortunate accident (s/he was stepped on) and one was adopted immediately after Katie's death. One tiger tux and the dark grey, both boys, remained. He'd named the tux Tighe (short for Tiger) and was referring to the solid as a "little rascal" so he became Rascal. I went over every day to help my neighbor care for Tighe and Rascal and bottle raise them, but his memory and physical health were failing so he wasn't up for the task of caring for babies, let alone what would become two rambunctious teenagers very soon. After a week or so of helping, I suggested he let me take them home to be fostered until they could survive independently and he could have them back later. He agreed. His health continued to deteriorate and it became obvious that it would be in his best interest and the kittens' if they remained with me permanently. His daughter agreed and we convinced him to adopt them out to me. I had renamed them Tyler and Roscoe, keeping the names close enough to what my neighbor might call them. Tyler is still Tyler. But as they developed and their physical differences emerged, Roscoe's name no longer fit the slender, almost oriental wedge-headed cat with a dark nose and mauve paw pads. I nicknamed him Little Blue Kitten while researching breeds and names. After narrowing down the possible breed infiltrations, I realized that despite what the purists' claim, there had to be Russian Blue somewhere in his lineage. His given name is Sam, short for Samsara's Indigo, but to me, he's just Blue.
