Arrival Story:
April 30th my 7 yr old daughter came running inside and told me she found a cat that needed help. When she got to me I was amazed to see her holding a tiny kitten in her hand. He still had his cord and his eyes weren't open. I had her show me where she found it and she showed me a spot out in the open but near where I left food out for strays. I mixed some temporary formula and fed it while watching to see if the mom came back. After about 4 hours I gave up on the mom returning. My husband took me to WalMart and we got some KMR and eyedroppers. When I took him to the vet the next day he only weighed 2.7 oz. I spent the next several weeks bottle feeding him and taking him everywhere with me. I even took him to my daughter's class for show & tell one day and ended up showing 2 other grades as well. We went back right before school was out so the kids could see how much he had grown in just a few short weeks.

In October 2006, Alex had a large portion of his tail amputated due to a previous injury. A local rescue offers spay/neuter at reduced fees and when I told them about Alex's tail injury they offered to do the amputation when he was fixed. Now when he is excited or happy, he wags his little stub. Alex went missing mid July 2013. I put posters up everywhere, contacted local vets & left his picture & microchip number with them & the shelter. Even offered a reward with no luck so I thought he was dead. August 6, 2014, Alex showed up at my home over 1 year after he went missing. Before he disappeared, he weighed about 12 lbs. I had him at the vet when they opened back up after lunch, he weighed 4 3/4 lbs, has a URI, claws are horribly overgrown, he stunk to high heaven. Vet said he was dehydrated, so gave him subQ fluids & antibiotic shot + antibiotics to take at home. Managed to tip his claws and will be trimming them down slowly so he can readjust his walking. Aug 7, 2014 - Alex wanted outside with me & he at least tried to pee (he squatted). I have seen him eat 2 vienna (I know not healthy but it's something). He also ate a small amount of dry food and maybe 3 soft treats. Eyes are no longer gunky and he's not as wheezy as he was yesterday. He refuses the meat baby food and gags if I try to force it, even when I water it with pedialyte so I can get it through a syringe. I think he's just gagging because he can't breathe though. He wouldn't even lick sour cream off his paw (a favorite treat). Haven't seen him actually drink and he is still at least a little dehydrated. Thread posted in wellness - other for advice.

I'm jealous

Mom brought home a DOG yesterday. Sassy is mad at her but I'm so jealous. I didn't mind sharing Mom with Sassy because she's older than me but a DOG...But she did get us a funny new literbox, it moves. It looks funny and it makes noise but I like watching it go around. I like it so much better than our old litterbox. Every time it goes around, I like to go see that it really is clean :)

I am now an imitation Manx. I had to go to the vet on Thursday for something Momma called "neutering". They were very nice to me there, they fixed my little tail too. I feel so much better, I have been chasing my fur sister around. And I have been sneak attacking Momma and my human sister, and Daddy too. I like to lie in his lap while he watches TV.

Ohhh, I just heard a can open, let's go see what's cooking in the kitchen :)

small setback

well, my tail was getting better, until I tried to play w/ Momma while she was cleaning. She moved and I moved and I got my tail under her foot. She was so sorry but I know it wasn't her fault, she tells me she can't play while cleaning. I even had my bandage off but she had to put a new one on again. My tail is only about 4" long now and it's heavy with this bandage. Mommy put some kind of weird stretchy stuff on it and I can't get it off.

Did you see my newest picture? That's my favorite place, on Momma's shoulder. I even sit there sometimes and help her wash dishes. When she's done I run off with the cloth so she will play with me. Being a human must be so boring, they don't get to play all the time like we do. My sister sleeps a lot and gets grumpy when I wake her but sometimes she will get down and play with me.

I like to sit on the table where Momma has the computer. She lets me get in her lap and I watch her talk to her friends and then I get to talk to mine.
