Mancat on a leash???

Who ever heard of a big fierce mancat like me walking outside on a leash? Well, I found out that Taz, who is quite the man about town himself, walks on one in his garden. So Mommy got the idea to put that contraption on me!

It's not as good as when I was a nearly homeless traveling cat. Then I could go anywhere! But I did not mind it much. I did mind that the contraption was covered in pink flowers!

Maybe tomorrow we will try again, Mommy says. We tried it once a very long time ago, but I was not that into it. I did better today.

Results from vet

Well, we have some results from the vet but not all of them. The two things we needed to see were 1. If my hyperthyroidism is cured and 2. If my kidney function is still ok. (Hyperthyroidism can mask kidney disease and then the kidneys can fail when the thyroid is cured.)

For question number one, the answer is maybe. My thyroid is down to 3.9 from 18, but that is still on the high side of normal. I remember that the Radiocat man-nurse named Ron told me that they gave me the maximum dose of radiation, and I might need another one. Anyhow, the thyroid level can vary due to normal fluctuations, so they sent my blood out for a different test that will tell us for sure if I still have hyperthyroidism. We get the results on Monday.

As for my kidneys, everything looks normal on bloodwork. (In fact, the blood results showed improvement in kidney and liver function since just before I had my therapy.) My urine indicates a couple of levels that are slightly off, but they are no worse than last time, and they are to be expected in a 15 year old mancat. No one is worried about my kidneys at this time. However, I had white blood cells in my urine, which indicates the presence of infection, so I have to take pills!

The best news is that I gained two pounds since my therapy, so that made everyone very happy. Also, my heart murmur is gone now. (I had a grade 3 murmur that was associated with the thyroid problem.)

Kiki has to take the same pills, as she has a UTI as well. Fun for the people for two weeks!

Thank you to everypurr who sent me pmails to check on me and gifties. I love all of my friends on Catster dearly.

Still Hyperthyroid :-(

Oh my cats, I can't believe this. After all my the money and time spent on my radioactive iodine treatment in February, I am STILL hyperthyroid three months post-treatment. The vet called Mommywith the news this morning, and she is quite upset right now. I definitely am feeling better and the levels are lower than before, but I am not cured.

This was a known risk because my thyroid level was so very high, and I got the maximum dose of radiation. Even though we knew this might happen, it is still very, very upsetting and frustrating

Aside from the obvious upset about me still not being cured, there is the astronomical expense if a second treatment is needed. With all the pre-treatment work needed (x-rays, blood, etc.) it comes to almost $2,000 per treatment.

Mommy will talk to the Radiocat people today or tomorrow to see what they recommend doing next.

Tears of frustration,
Mouse

Doctor visit tomorrow!

Tomorrow I am going for another recheck and horrible poking at the vet.

We will see if my kidneys are still ok and whether I might need another thyroid treatment or not.

Wish me luck, along with the four people it will take to get my blood!

October 20 I get radiocatted again

My Mommy told me that on October 20 I am going back for another radioactive iodine treatment. This should be the final one and the cure I have been searching for. If I don't get the second treatment, I have to go back on pills every day and start all over. My thyroid levels are already increasing.

So once again I will leave the comfort of my home and my pink blanket that was Catsy's and go to live in the hospital for three whole days.

Mommy is terribly scared still about unmasking a kidney issue, but my kidney values stayed the same from before my first treatment to now. My blood will be drawn again on October 9 and urine too just to be as sure as possible that I am still a good candidate.

Boo!

Pawlitics

Oh my. My little orangie "brother" Gilmore sure has a lot learn about pawlitics! That little pipsqueak thinks he is going to take my place while I am in the hospital and then convalescing from my radioactive iodine treatment next month.

I am the president because I am the oldest AND I have the most experience living in this household. I am not sure who is the next oldest, but Kiki gets the nod for vice president since she has the second most experience, and Butters is more of a...ahem...follower than a leader. He's a nice guy and all, but sometimes I think he's a few Fancy Feast sandwiches short of a picnic...if you catch my drift.

The other cats respect Kiki's authority, except for the occasional breach of protocol from Gilmore, and I have to say she has earned my respect too. You should see her scaring the fur pants off Hazel and Lilith when she has a mind to!

Gilmore is very pawpular around here, but he's just a baby. Ok, so he's a baby with the cutest orange stripey coat and white sleeves and pants. But needs to learn that there is much more to being president than being cute and schmoozing. Perhaps I will be his mentor.

Note to self: Call an emergency meeting of the Boy Kitty club at once!

I have an ouchie

Last night when I was cuddling with Mommy in bed, she said, "Mouse, what happened to your eye???" I thought it felt funny but never checked the mirror. She said it looked swollen, red and there was a lot of icky stuff coming out.

So I guess this means I am being packed up tomorrow and taken to the doctor. They could not see me today, and now Mommy has to rearrange her whole work schedule to take me. But, she reminded us all, I am worth it!

I am acting otherwise fine. I either have an infection or some sort of injury. We will find out tomorrow.

It's always something!

I'm ok

Hi all!

Thank you for your concern about my eye. Mommy and Daddy said it looked better today but Daddy took me to see the doc just in case. He said I probably bumped or scratched it, but that it seemed ok. He gave Daddy some ointment for it. I got my vaccine shots updated. Mommy wanted that over with well in advance of my Radiocat treatment, so it's good that is done.

Oh, and the doctor told Daddy that I behaved the best he has ever seen me!

I am going to get my nap on now!
