Ambushing his sister cat Emily and freaking her out, playing Fetch with a paper ball, Being charming to all the humans who visit and even jumping in their lap
We had been thinking about getting a kitten for awhile and had visited several breeders. We looked at Maine Coons, Norwegian Forest Cats, Ragdolls, and British Shorthairs. We decided to get Zachary because it felt right. Zachary is helping me deal with the death of my Yenta.
I was unsure if I should get Zachary when we were at his breeder's house. My cat Yenta was very ill with cancer and I knew he didn't have much more time. At the same time I wanted to quickly have a friend for our other cat Emily since we planned on travelling soon and didn't want Emily to be alone. I was in so much pain about Yenta's illness I was having trouble thinking straight. We has seen a couple of other litters recently but I just didn't feel that special spark and I was worried about bringing a kitten into the house with Yenta being so ill. When we went to see Zachary's litter, Yenta was closer to going. Anyway, I still didn't feel any great spark seeing Zachary and his sisters...they were playful kittens but didn't seem interested at all in my husband and I. I was really confused even though I thought the kittens were beautiful. The breeders advised me to go home and think about it since they lived right near us. I was really torn. I knew I wanted a boy and Zak was the only boy out of five kittens. I picked Zak up as my husband was talking to the breeders and walked around their kitchen holding him. I looked at a shelf and saw a napkin holder designed with two big red butterflies. A red butterfly has been the symbol for my grandmother since she passed and I have a big red butterfly in my kitchen to have her close with me. To me this was a sign that I should take Zak home with us. He was so quiet in the car and he didn't purr at the breeder's house. I wondered if I made the right decision. The first two days he hid under a wardrobe in the bedroom we set up for him. I was worried that he would be a fearful kitten. But on the third day he started coming out more and I realized he was the sweetest most affectionate kitten who loved to sit on my lap and purred like a motor boat. I'm so happy I found such a loving cat. It just goes to show that you may not necessarily bond with a kitten upon first meeting, you may need to take him home away from the litter to get to see his personality. So far Zachary and Emily aren't good friends, but we are hoping that after he is neutered in January and he gets a little older that they will become close.

It's hard to believe that Zachary is two today. He is still so kitten-like. He still attacks our toes under the blankets when we're in bed...he hates to be alone and loves to literally plop down on top of either myself or Emily, our other cat. Emily isn't too fond of this, but will often allow Zachary to lay on top of her. Zachary is a sweet, goofy boy who is our little love. He loves to watch our three year old daughter play and he get's frighteningly close to her even though she has pulled his tail before. What can I say, I adore my cat! Happy Birthday Zachary!!

Zachary's human mommy and daddy are going on a trip. I am very nervous about leaving Zachary for so long (with catsitter visiting twice a day). He is so needy right now and follows me and sleeps with me like a puppy. I hope he and Emily will be ok. I'm usually home so they are used to me being here, so I hope they dont get too upset.
