Can often be a good thing, as in, for example, being on the edge of your seat in excitement or anticipation. Or being on the edge artistically and creatively. Being described as cutting-edge is a compliment, not an insult.
So why does mom not like it when I pee on the edge? That is, even when the litter box is completely clean, I like to deposit my #1 (and often #2 too) in the corners and on the sides. Sure, I sometimes end up peeing on and OVER the edge, but is that really my fault? I suppose the fact that there's only carpeting where my box is, and that mom finds it even more difficult to scoop poop and pee that's stuck like cement on the sides now that she has tennis elbow important considerations to keep in mind, but it's not like I do it on purpose to annoy her...
KJ's mom: does anyone have any idea why she may be doing this, and how I can get her to be more boring and just pee/poop in the middle of the box?

You're just straddling on the edge of danger KJ. One of my brothers likes to do that by the entrance of our box... I think you just like your spot, I think we all have our spot. Maybe your mommy should put a pee pad under and around your box, we have that.
many purrs, Luke
I pee in the corner all the time -- that's my spot! I'm not big enough to pee over the top, though. Mom says Scooter used to pee on the end of the box. When she started getting older, she had some arthritis and couldn't squat as well, so sometimes she peed over the edge. Maybe you have some arthritis. Scooter took Cosequin for Cats and that helped her arthritis, but she still peed on the end of the box. I guess that was her spot!
A pee pad! What a great idea. And not something mom would have thought of herself, so thanks! She was using cardboard to try and protect the carpet, but pads would be much better. :)
Hmmm, maybe arthritis is something we should keep in mind. After all, I'm not as young as I used to be! Ha ha, we're both corner cats, snort. And I guess if that's our natural inclinations, then our moms can't do anything about it! ;)
I do that same thing! My moms an artist... I'll tell her I'm being outside the box artistic next time.
If it helps, mom puts those plastic mats for under computer desk chairs at the hardware store and just puts one under our box to protect the floor.
Ha ha, "I'm an outside the box artist" -- I like that! Oh, that's a good idea too re: plastic mats. Mom had thought of a car mat, but they're expensive, and ugly and too many grooves. Thanks!
