Arrival Story:
Bella was found by mothers friend who lived along a small highway. She was out to get the mail one morning and heard faint little mews. Searching for the sound she came upon a tiny, very emaciated (starved) and injured kitten. This kitten was dirty from head to toe, almost black in colour and could only just barely cry out. The poor thing had road rash all up the left side of her face and chest, and what appeared to be two puncture wounds on her chest as well... Feeling sorry for the little bundle, but not much of an animal person herself, she gathered it up and proceeded to call us. She knew all to well how much my family loved animals and just how many we had rescued over the years... Sure enough about 30 minutes later the little, dirty kitten was in a box on the way back to our house. We bathed her (at least 6 times to get all the grime completely off) fattened her up and healed up her wounds. One puncture wound on her chest refused to heal, I had asked my mother if she knew why and she said "give it a squeeze and see if anything comes out..." me, horrified at the thought, did as I was told and sure enough a little tiny maggot popped it's head out. YUCK! We plucked the little bugger out and put on more ointment and sure enough with the maggot gone that too healed up wonderfully. Eventually what was once a black, oily, starving and injured kitten was now a happy, healthy, active, COLOURFUL, ball of fluff! I named her "Bella" because it stands for beauty, I personally think her beauty shined through right from the very beginning, and still does to this very day. Bella has never been sick or injured ever since and now happily lives indoors (and is scared of the outside world even! But then again, who could blame her?) The only "Scar" she has left from that tragic time is her left eye, which is ever so slightly more squinty than her right (this is the side the road rash was on). She is not, however, blind in this eye. :D Bella is my sweet loving darling who I can't imagine my life with out. She will always hold a very close and special place in my heart, and I in hers I'm sure. I dread the day when my baby may leave me but even when she does I will continue to love her. She and I have been through many things together and I hope to have many more with her!
