We went to Cats R Us Cat Rescue in Tennessee to adopt another. I didn't want a kitten, and I wanted a big enough cat my young daughters wouldn't pick up. We were told "Ali" was about 18 mos old though he seemed a bit sedate (OK, near-comatose most of the time!) for such a young cat. Bio: Given the proper name of Mr. Ollie Whiskers, we found out later from the vet this cat was more like 12 YEARS old. No matter--he was a delight. He disliked Nellie (she'd growl at him), he spoke to Sammy, and he loved to rub against the old man Rusty Paws. He went into kidney failure in January 2004 at around age 15. The picture is him on his last day on Earth. We had the option of rehydrating him every other day for a year or more, but we chose to only do it one day so we could bring him home from the vet and let him spend his last 24 hours the way he loved--surrounded by his people and dogs and lying under the only tree in the yard in the warm sun. He had a catheter in his leg, which explains the blue bandage. Such a good old cat. We were blessed to have him, even though he owned us for a mere 29 months.
