Arrival Story: Blanket's view:
The shelter I was at, River Valley Animal Protection League, did a ‘Pet of the Week’ story on me. I knew who I was looking for in a Mom and Dad, so I gave the camera my special look. Well that look did it, and within days Mom & Dad came in to see me. I knew they would because I was the kitty they did not know they were looking for, but they had to have me. I made sure to love up Dad big time, as I knew he would be the one to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to my going home with them. I gave some of my high quality attention to Mom too, but Dad’s lap is the one I curled up on during our first visit. I knew they were meant for me and me for them only. Sure enough, I worked my magic on them and now I have a forever home with them. Strangely enough, I feel like I have lived here before.
Mom & Dad's view:
My husband and I had lost our beloved Baby just before Christmas 2010. Her loss was great, but she had a long life filled with love and we felt blessed to have had her in our lives. Our other two cats Gabby and Christy, helped us get over her loss. We were content to have a two cat household. Then in September of 2011 we saw a picture of a black and white cat in the paper, and all my husband and I could say was how much this cat looked like our Baby! Upon reading the article about this cat’s personality, we were even more shocked to see how much like our Baby this cat was. She was declawed, like our Baby was when we found her at a shelter, she was petite, just like our Baby was, and she had the same look in her eyes that Baby always did! It was uncanny! We were not looking to adopt another cat, but we had to go meet this cat. One we did, she won our hearts and we adopted her. I know some people believe in reincarnation, and I really did not have a view one way or the other about it, but after having Blanket for almost two weeks now, I can not believe how much she acts like our deceased Baby. It is totally mind blowing. Oh she has her own little quirks, but I swear, Blanket is our Baby in a new body. We call her Blanket because every time we sit down, she covers our laps with her body just like a blanket. Which, by the way, is what Baby used to do!

Hi,
It has been a rough few months getting used to my new home. At first I was very afraid of Gabby and Christy, and they knew it! They would pick on me! I would make sure to yowl very loud when they would challenge me, so Mom & Dad would hear and come running, which helped some. Sometimes Gabby would attack me, and I would get so scared I would ‘poop’ all over the floor. Mom & Dad did not like that at all, but neither did I. In fact Gabby had me so scared I started going ‘poop’ and ‘pee’ on the floor, which I know was wrong, but I didn’t dare go past Gabby or Christy to get down cellar to the litter boxes. Dad really didn’t like that I did this and I don’t blame him. Thank God Mom understood I was scared and she started bringing me down cellar several times a day so I could have a chance to use the litter boxes in private. She would tell me it was our special time together and I loved her for that! I quickly adjusted my ‘bathroom’ schedule so that I could ‘hold things’ until she took me down there and my accidents completely stopped! Over time Gabby and Christy have gotten sick of picking on me, and I have gotten more used to them. Don’t get me wrong, we are by no means good buddies, but we are working on it. I am now brave enough to go down to the litter boxes on my own, but Mom still brings me down with her in the morning when she goes down to clean them. She still says it’s our special time together. I am even trying to show Gabby and Christy I can’t be bullied by them. Sometimes I am the one to start something with Christy. I think I would like to play with her at times, but Christy and I still have trust issues. I will admit though, there have been times when Christy has allowed me to lay in Mom’s lap while she is there too. That was nice and I think I would like to do that more often, but time will tell how often that will happen in the future. Now Gabby, she is the ‘alpha’ cat of the house, and I totally understand and respect that. I do not get near her at all. I growl every time she walks anywhere near me and she simply looks at me and walks by, in a regal sort of way. I bow to the Queen of the house, Queen Gabby! I am now comfortable enough in my new home to roam it freely and whenever I see an available lap, I am in it. I especially love climbing in Mom’s lap and cuddling with her on her chest while she watches TV. I like lying in Dad’s lap too, but usually we just fall asleep together while the TV is on. Ahh life it good for me right now and I am so grateful Mom & Dad adopted me.
